NCAAs are going back to Orlando for a decade.

2025 - Waco
2026 - Athens
2027 - Athens
2028 in perpetuity - Orlando

I like it! I love this facility!!!! Except the rain and one year with the love bugs.

Jeanette wins 6(4)-7, 6-2, 6-4. Came back from down 5-2 in the first to 6-5, but lost in the breaker. The second set was clean and quick. She didn't "find the net" until the third set and then she found her way out of it. Backhand placement was pretty great at times.

J-bird will be off tomorrow and play again on Wednesday.

"Permanent shade structures". Please make this happen at Mitchell as part of the renovations, Mark.

That would be a nice thing. Just don't dare interrupt the breeze on the top row.

Very happy to see that Pepperdine did not burn down overnight, but if the universe is trying to give a sign to any Wimbledon junior champions out there from the north Dallas suburbs that ncaa eligibility is short, maybe this is another one of those signs.

Jeanette plays on Court 19 at 2:00 pm today.

Also, there's a new name in the student directory that's half as interesting as one that's been mentioned around this board. I don't know what that really means, but if anybody wants to go hunt for it, don't paste the whole thing here.

Is it the name that's signed and we've all been expecting in 2025? Not necessarily a surprise?

It's a Hovde, but the first name isn't like Eleanor > Ellie. Thus why it's half as interesting, I don't know if it's a legal first name as no middle name is listed.

Jeanette had some breadsticks yesterday. She will play at 8:45 tonight on court 17, Ellie will play on court 19 at that time.

Wow!! No mention of the latest ITA Rankings. Very sad on the men's side and very shocking on the women's side!
I am very shocked and will not spoil it. I know it's early but still very shocked

Are you referring to the individual rankings released last week? I didn't see any big surprises there so may not be following.

I thought only 3 individuals and 1 doubles at 70 was a shocker!! Maybe I over reacted! 2 singles in top 100.
Men had 1 singles in rankings at 60 but did have 2 doubles.

Lulu and Mia didn't play most of the fall. Mary and Mia only played a handful of doubles matches, if any. Nicole had a decent fall, Daria as a great fall compared to what we've seen from her in recent years.

The fall format was lowkey terrible. People qualified for MCAAs that should have never seen that tournament, girls were left out that should have easily been in. It was the luck of the draw for the most part. There are quite a few podcast that go over the negative impact of the switch to fall tennis. The rankings are somewhat decent, but isn't telling the full story of the body of work a full season can do.

Rankings are rankings. Yes there are milestones and every girl on the team wants to see their hard work get rewarded with higher rankings, but the number next to them is tertiary for all the girls. They've said so. What they care about is getting better and winning matches. For the most part the girls were very successful in that this fall. They also really like the new format of the fall, for international players it allows them to play pro matches and compete in ITA events whenever they want to( our girls chose pro). For the Americans it allows them to qualify for NCAAs which means a little more for the avg american than international player, also to potentially position themselves for a US Open wildcard. it'll take some adjusting for fans but this is the new norm and from the player and coaches pov it is very well liked.

All very interesting! Guess I will have to adjust! Surprise that Coaches and players like as much as they do.
Kind of waters down the NCAA singles champ but you have to still be pretty damn good to win.

NGL, I had to look up tertiary.

Weren't all players always allowed to play pro events whenever they wanted? No one was ever obligated to play fall college tournaments.

The new format sounds like it's good for us but I have heard from some (non-Aggie) coaches and players that they don't like the format because it makes players choose between getting pro points and being an all-American. True that some kids don't care about both, but many do. Under the previous system someone could play pro all fall and win enough matches to qualify for NCAAs.

It wasn't enough to just qualify. Seeding mattered when the reward was a USO MDWC and the money that comes with it. Now that will only go to Americans in their last year of playing college ball.

Wasn't the WC always for Americans only? Is it now only senior Americans?

Edit: See below. I don't think year in college matters at all.

This is from September:
Quote:

Earlier this month Division I college coaches were notified of a new format, which will guarantee that wild card, but it will not necessarily go to Novembers NCAA champions. Instead the USTA will hold a four-player/team playoff for the US Open wild card next spring; the NCAA champion and finalist, if American, will automatically be included, with two other American collegians selected to join them. If, as happened with the women in 2023 and the men in 2019, no American is in the final, all four American collegians will be selected by a committee to compete in the playoff.

In one sense, this is an improvement, as it guarantees a US Open wild card to an American collegian every year. But there is no obvious advantage to winning the NCAAs if you are already one of the top Americans in college tennis. Knowing what was on the line in the NCAA final always added drama to the event; stakes still exist, but they aren't nearly as high as they were when the individual tournament was held in May. An American NCAA champion losing in the semifinals of the playoff will have nothing to show for his/her NCAA title in November, in the realm of wild cards anyway.

You must be right. I was probably getting it confused with the Hurd Award.

Any surprise transfer news for the Spring? Liv or anyone else?

Keep hoping we get a surprise like this.

I also saw that Maya Joint got a wild card to the Aussie Open. Not a surprise but significant money she will have to turn down to play this Spring.
