The numbers were given based on the constructors championship, with exception to #1 and #2 which went to the drivers champion and their teammate. However, they skipped 13, due to superstition, so the numbers would usually go #11 and #12 and then the next team would be #14 and #15.

It's my understanding that if Max chooses to race in the #1 car in 2022 but doesn't win the 2022 world title, he'd no longer be able to race in car #1 regardless if the 2022 champion chooses to switch from #44 to #1 or not.

Let's be honest. If Merc has the ability to win next year it will be #63 switching to #1.

Good question. This one started in February of this year around the time of the livery reveals. I would say that we can swap it over January 1, 2022 this time around.

Also thought this was pretty cool. Zak Brown promised his McLaren IndyCar driver Pato O'ward he could test drive the McLaren F1 car if he won a race this year. O'Ward ended up winning at Texas Motor Speedway and Detroit.

FYI for all.

I have posted the links to previous threads in the OP going all the way back to 2014.

The post numbers are pretty dang eye-opening when you compare them to this year.

DTS effect.

I watched F1 growing up with my dad. Lost interest in the 10's .. would watch it while in the gym doing cardio on Sundays (if it was on that morning)... DTS, has me wanting the audio on and following things in between the actual races (which is why I am here)

MGU-H dropped from the 2026 engine rules, we may finally get to root for Porsche (again) in F1. Guess we will see if the shared development between VW Group and Red Bull Powerunits happens now

Merc and Lewis are also skipping the FIA prize giving event today....the regulations require the top 3 drivers to attend...

Meh, glad they're somewhat moving on. But, still, get over yourselves. For one person to apply a rule in which it's never been applied and single handedly decide the championship? C'mon man. Plenty of events decided the championship. Lewis crashing Max in Silverstone, Bottas crashing Max, Max crashing Hamilton in Italy, Max having a blowout in Baku, Lewis not being able to capitalize because he hit some magic button and ran off the track, Mercedes thinking they had it in the bag and not changing Lewis's tires, etc.

lol nobody would ever change tires there. Holy cow.

They should've in the earlier VSC, even Hamilton commented that they should've. They didn't because they didn't think it would matter as they didn't expect a red flag or a restart.

Is this Hamilton throwing a fit to see if F1 begs him to stay? What a tool. Get over yourself.

Yeah, there's a lot of Monday morning quarterbacking going on wrt Mercedes tires, but if Mercedes matches Max's tire change at the VSC and/or the Latiffi crash safety car... They give up track position AND the two are equal on tires. They have to pass Max straight up which was possible but certainly not easy. And Max had proven time and again he would drive/defend to the death as a crash that takes them both out was to his advantage.

Mercedes played it by the book in both those instances. Horner admitted red bull needed a miracle and Haas/Williams gave it them... plus Masi making a call inconsistent with anything that had been done before.

I don't have a dog in this fight as my chosen team was yucking it up mid pack but I didn't see Mercedes do anything wrong strategically those last few laps.

As a newcomer to the sport, weren't the two lap traffic cars just going to get out to Max's way the minute the safety car bailed, does Merc expect lap traffic to run interference for them.

I mean, I understand what you're saying, but even Hamilton said it was risky, in the moment. They knew they were taking a risk to maintain position. It almost worked, but ultimately bit them.

For everyone harping on the tires, I'll concede that point, but there are still probably a dozen other incidents over the course of the year that dictate the champion. That was my point. That Mercedes saying it was single handedly decided by a sole individual is bs. Plenty of things happened throughout the year that would have made all this moot.

There was only going to be one lap left after safety car came in, so Lewis would have been able to build more of a lead while Max was working his way through those cars. It wasn't as simple as the lapped cars parting the Red Sea for Max. He would still have to work his way through them.

It is possible that, even if the lapped cars stayed there, Max still could have caught Lewis. He had fresh soft tyres that gave him much more pace than Lewis's 40+ laps old hard tyres.

If I recall correctly, the lapped cars were also in a fight with each other for places in the final drivers and constructors standings, so they weren't likely to give up any advantage over the cars they were racing with to let max through.

If Merc would've done a standard successful pit stop on the VSC, they would've ended up ahead of Max. In my opinion they assumed the risk of the pit going wrong, exceeded the reward.

They were obligated to do the same thing they had done all race. Did you see anyone pulling off the racing line and diving out of their way to let Lewis and Max pass leading up to that point?

Those guys were all racing amongst themselves for points and millions of constructors dollars. I'm in my third or fourth full season of F1 viewership and the thing I've learned over time is the mid pack strategies and fights have been more interesting and fun to watch than the drivers championship over there last few years. Every point in the top 10 means something to someone.

This has been my same thoughts since I read everything this morning. They have plenty to look back on that were mistakes made that cost them. It's not this one lap drama that cost them the championship. It's no different than a football game where a referee makes a bad call. It might have effected that play and been a big **** up, but it's not why you lost the game. You lost because you didn't score enough.

I've been a MB/Lewis fan for a long time, but I've reached my threshold of the whining. Don't really give a **** if he returns or not.
