That was pretty great.
I had the Hamilton on-board cam up most of the time which was fun to watch.
Good battles all around the track.
Based on where the first turn is, I'm not so sure starting 2nd is all that bad. We'll see how things kick off tomorrow.
Hamilton tomorrow should be awesome - podium definitely possible from 10th.

Max has to stay clean tomorrow, a 1 or 2. Doesn't matter at this point just stay clean and finish. Louis will be somewhere on that box at the end of the race.

Now that the last Sprint is over for the season, what is your general take on the format based on what you've seen? Pros? Cons?
F1 is looking to up the Sprint number to at least 6 next year. Too much? Right amount?

Yeah he was really impressive today. He only needed the 85mm opening. Wonder if it was a setup error or intentional trying to push the rules and got caught.

I'm a fan of the sprint race qualifying and would like to see more of it.
Hell of a drive by Hamilton today. I expect him to finish on the podium tomorrow if he has a clean race and no pit issues.

I'm not a fan of sprint qualifying. My favorite format was the 1 hr session with 12 laps max per driver that they used in the late 90's and early 00's.

I like the sprint qualifying format, but I will say that it changes the overall race weekend dynamic considerably.
In the traditional format, the sessions build steadily in importance, energy, and anticipation over the course of the weekend, with qualifying being the prelude to the big climax with the race on Sunday.
For Sprint weekends, the energy level jumps straight up from FP1 to Qualifying and then back down on Saturday morning for FP2. It gives FP2 a completely different context and diminishes it somewhat.
However, the excitement level for the Sprint race makes up for that and sets up well for the big event on Sunday.

Ham will be on podium tomorrow. I think Max wins, Ham 2, Perez 3 or one of the Ferraris. My gut says Max pushed Boss Ass just enough to see that he could catch if needed, then backed off, thinking P2 with that short run to the left turn 1, leaving him on the inside track, will serve him just fine.
Would be a crazy race if he battles through 7 places and then proceeds to pass Perez.

If Mercedes are smart they will use Bottas to control the pace at the front and allow Hamilton to catch up. Red Bull will need to counter with an undercut with one of their cars, but that will only work if there is a big enough gap to the midfield.

Don't like that. Sprint qualifying is fun but different. 2 races for points (I assume half? Didn't want the video) in the same weekend seems weird.
Damn that sucks for Lando. Really want McLaren to beat Ferrari this year.
Bottas is so mediocre
As for the sprint race I like the idea of it being a stand-alone points race instead of qualifying. The teams now seem to use hard and medium compounds almost exclusively during the race so I like the idea of actually watching them race each other on softs.

Lando messed that up a tad. Surprised to see Sainz take a bit more left line to hold up Lec or try to a few turns later.
I think yesterday and the start here are good indications Merc is happy to turn the engine up, burn it out, and take the 5 place penalty for on track performance.
