We got a hotel in Buda a few months ago for Friday night. Then last week my buddy was able to add Saturday night for ~$100 more. We keep thinking it will get cancelled or the price will be doubled. But so far neither has happened.

So y'all are saying I should put my house in Buda up on VRBO and make some dinero? 5 bed 3.5 bath and easy access to the toll road.

Hearing a renewal is in the works as the demand for Austin has been nuts this year. Expecting 360k. Some more after parties soon to be announced with big guests attached too.

When they say 360k, they don't mean actually mean 360k individuals do they? They are saying attendance of 360k over the weekend - ie you go Friday, Saturday, and Sunday that is counted as 3.

That would be correct. Same thing for PGA events. Attendance is total tickets sold over the event timeline. So one person who attends all three days makes up 3 of the 360k.

Lol in past years I've gotten a nice hotel room in Austin the week of the race no sweat. Maybe $200 a night? I forget.

It's just my son and I this year so we can rough it in Bastrop one night for $100.

Several months ago, I booked 4 nights at a Marriott in South Austin. With all the taxes, fees, and high price for Friday and Saturday it averages about $300/night.

I just looked on the marriott app and there's one hotel (the Otis) with an opening those nights and it's $1200 a night.

Checo will be in Dallas down by the AAC on 10/16. Apparently he'll drive around in a retired F1 Red bull car...there will also be motorcycle stunts, and exotic cars.

https://today.in-24.com/sport/News/138636.html

Quote:

Checo Prez will arrive in Dallas, Texas on October 16 as part of the Red Bull ShowRun. The exhibition, open to all public, will begin at 10 in the morning and will take place at the PNC Plaza.
For the first time, Red Bull will bring its ShowRun event to the Lone Star State, where fans can get up close and personal with all the speed of racing, as well as motorcycle stunts and a parade of exotic cars. But, this time, we will also have the participation of the runner Sergio Prez, who is part of the Red Bull Racing team in Formula 1 together with Max Verstappen.
The event It will last 4 hours and is suitable for all audiences.

We are hoping to go to this event this weekend. However, it isn't really clear when Checo will be driving the RB7. I would assume it would be in the last part of the show, but it isn't very clear on the website below.

Austin GP needs to be renewed.

I am going on Friday. I am still searching for a Sat or Sun ticket at a decent price.

Checo driving a Red Bull will bring lots of RB colors out. Red Bull has a huge tent right next to the Turn 1 grandstand.

Netflix series has helped F1 tremendously in the US.

I can see two USGPs moving forward. Miami happens early in May. Austin is a natural fit to keep in October on the way to Mexico GP, which happens around Dia de los Muertos festivities (Nov 2). Mexico GP is staying for 2022, and it is constantly voted as the best GP experience in the world.

I hope COTA renews. Austin is booming.

Agree 1000% COTA surroundings, aesthetics and road access need major improvements. I drove by there 2 days ago and there's road construction all around the complex. IMO too little too late because the GP is in 10 days, and it didn't look like they were close to finishing.

I wish there were funds for this.

I see some of the other Grand Prix surroundings, and they are beautiful. From all accounts, the track is great. It wouldnt take much to improve the aesthetics of COTA.

Too bad Elon isn't an F1 fan. Richest guy in the world is right down the road

First time in person attendee for COTA (or any race of any kind). Any tips?

We have GA on Friday, and Turn 1 on Saturday. We will have younger kids with us on Friday (2 & 5 y/o) since the tickets were cheap and my daughter would have killed me if I went without her. We will have hearing protection for the kids, should the adults pack some as well?

It is our first time as well. We have cheap bleacher seats at Turn 9 for Friday. I have 16 year old son and 9 year old daughter and my wife. We will all have hearing protection. We are hoping to catch FP1, FP2, and Twenty One Pilots concert. However, that means prior to crack of dawn departure from Frisco Friday morning and getting to track soon enough to park and get to FP1.

I bought COTA Lot F parking in advance. Last I went I didn't, and it was a mess finding parking around the complex (off COTA).

Access roads are mostly single lane county roads. Expect long lines to get to the complex, or get there early right after gate opens. I got there 2 hours before qualifying, and that was too late because of the slow traffic to park the walking from parking lot to gate.

They say that shuttles are the way to go, but I don't have first hand experience using the shuttles (dtwn Aus & Bastrop).

I never felt like I needed ear plugs.

I went in 2019 for late Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I had a lot F parking pass. I went to the concerts both nights and it didn't take to long to get out after the concerts but after the race it took awhile to leave due to everyone leaving at once. I never went at gate open so I am not sure how long it will take for parking at the time

I had ear plugs for when sitting watching sessions because I was sitting in the grand stand but they aren't necessary it was just preferance. Do not buy the headsets because they were playing commentary over speakers so they weren't necessary and only were set up for the race.
If you want to get good spots at the concert and you haven't reserved make sure to get in line early. The first concert I forgot to bring a jacket and was cold by the end.

I've never felt like I needed hearing protection.

The loudest section is the main grandstands across from pit lane. We've done that on Friday that last few years but I doubt the prices are as friendly this time.

For the Nascar races - YES. Holy cow those cars are loud.

Agree. I am waiting for prices to drop as it gets closer to the event. It's worked for me when I buy football tickets.

Thank you for the advice. I've never been but always wanted to. The race always landed after an Aggie game that I attended. This year I'll be back home that Sunday after the game

Anyone have a recommendation for where to sit in the GA areas? I'm going every day so I might check out a few spots before Sunday but there's a lot of ground up cover so would love any tips.

Last time we sat on the slope between turn 1 and turn 2. You can see cars coming up the pit straight, coming through turn 1 and then heading down the hill through turn 2. If you get high enough on that hill, you can also see across to Turn 19.

I've also sat on the wall above the entry to turn 11. Not bad but not as good as the spot above.

Yeah in GA I've only sat on the T1 hill.

I've walked all the way around the track but I can't really comment on what might be the best GA section.

I love our seats at the top of the T1 grandstand - you can see a LOT of the track - I would guess it's the best view of the race.

I didn't upgrade to those seats until maybe year 4 or 5.

Back in the pre hybrid era the cars were very loud as the V10s and then V8s were hitting 19,000 RPMs. The hybrid era w/ the turbo and MGU-H made the cars super quiet. There were efforts after the 2014 season to make the louder again, but they are still very quiet relative to how they used to sound. Just go to youtube and watch a race from 20 years ago or so to get an idea.

Went to the Canadian Grand Prix a few years ago with some buddies and on Saturday they had a race with some earlier era cars. There was no watching that event without some major ear protection.

Haven't been to COTA for F1, but went for NASCAR earlier this year and recommend arriving as early as physically possible especially if you don't have a pre-paid parking pass. It was an absolute mess trying to find a spot, thankfully made it to my seats during the parade lap after power walking over a mile from where I ended up parking.

The infrastructure around the track is nowhere near capable of handling those kind of crowds.

EDIT: We were at turn 12 and they were awesome seats. I imagine they would've been even better watching F1 cars hit that braking zone after the long straight.

Turn 12 bleachers are said to be one of the best seats for F1 in the world.

Parking parking access access traffic traffic…it's a big big mess. Get there early.

It was that bad on Saturday and Sunday when I went a few years ago.

Don't know about Fridays. Next week will be the first time I go to the Friday sessions.

I went to the '99 race. Montreal during the Grand Prix weekend is an experience.
