They do a lot of ancillary stuff out there. Track days, large concerts, Karting, moto gp, etc etc. But that's not going to be enough if F1 leaves.

I wish someone like Musk could take it over...use it to promote Tesla worldwide.

And I think with Miami coming soon, hosting multiple weeks in the States, will only raise the profile of F1 domestically. But you better make sure your track is comparable to Miami's new shiny one. COTA could be sooo impressive if they'd improve the surroundings a bit.

Miami will be a street circuit.

I personally would be surprised if Cota loses its race but I guess we will see.

Didn't know that. Cool!

They are building a track around the football stadium. Not a street circuit after all. Someone posted a link a page or two ago with info about the track.

Wow - that's a peddle to the metal, low downforce circuit.

Would this be called a "hybrid" type track where a portion of the track is on streets that are used for regular traffic outside of the race and another portion is dedicated track sections?

Or will the entire length of the track become dedicated strictly to racing?

Those are existing streets that won't change. I actually think that track is going to suck. It's in the middle of a neighborhood and will be a pain in the ass to get to.

As someone who has been to the stadium and owns property nearby, this is guaranteed to be the "roughest" area most F1 fans will ever visit. F1 on South Beach would be amazing (and likely impossible), but F1 in Miami Gardens is polar opposite of what people around the world think of as "Miami".

On the plus side, Tootsie's is going to have an amazing week of business!

No way it's rougher than Sao Paulo. Teams have been held up and robbed on the way from their hotel to the track.

I don't think most F1 fans will like the layout in Miami either but we will see.

I think most people say it reminds them of Vietnam and Sochi and not in a good way.

It's so flat, I really don't see good viewing opportunities for the spectators.

Cota has the giant turn 1 hairpin hill and then the rest of the 1st sector is interesting and different.

Maybe the rest of the layout borrowed from other tracks but at least sector one is unique.

We have great tracks in Elkhart Lake and Watkins Glen that with a little investment to bring them up to modern F1 standards would be fantastic. I don't know why they want to build some silly track through a stadium parking lot - goes back to the race at Cesar's Palace way back in the early 80's.

I agree the track and the concept is goofy, but they are never going to hold an F1 race in the middle of nowhere New York or Wisconsin. They are going because Miami is the draw for fans, not the race track.

Very True. Which is why I wish they had the funds to work on the aesthetics at COTA.

It's a great track, but the surroundings could look so much better with just a little work. Since the eyes of the world are on it once a year, I wish we'd put our best foot forward a bit more.

But...that takes money.

BTW - we've been going to COTA since the 2nd year and after a couple of years we upgraded to Turn 1 seats and haven't looked back.

What a fantastic view from up there.

We usually Stubhub Main Grandstand tickets for Friday as well just to get the club experience for one day.

I was barely an F1 fan before that first year.

I based my comments from the press release about the race in the tweet linked a few pages back.

I wonder if those streets in your graphic will no longer be public roadways once the circuit is completed.

Yeah I have the same questions - seems more like a hybrid than a straight street circuit.

Only if they go under financially. F1 has been wanting more teams - in the past they had more teams.

Are they joining as factory teams or engine suppliers to replace Honda? Would they be separate or combined under the VW banner?

F1 has slots for 12 teams. Back in the early 90s there were more and they held prequalifying to narrow the field down beforehand.

Quote:

Formula 1 boss Stefano Domenicali has revealed in an exclusive interview that next year's planned 23-race calendar is set for the earliest season's finish in over a decade, while a third of it could include the Sprint format.

Speaking to Sky Sports News' Craig Slater following the sport's Qatar announcement, the F1 president and CEO - while saying a full 2022 calendar reveal wouldn't be until October 15 - disclosed key details about the schedule.

F1 2022 is set for the record-breaking 23 races which were planned for 2021 before cancellations, while it is also due to start in March and finish in the middle of November.

Quote:

He did however reveal that there would be more Sprint events than we have seen this season.

The new F1 Sprint, a short Saturday race that sets the grid for Sunday's showpiece Grand Prix, has been trialled at two 2021 events so far - on incident-filled weekends at Silverstone and Monza - while another is planned for Brazil.

According to Domenicali, the success of those three-day weekends has led to F1 planning to use the format much more in 2022, possibly at seven or eight rounds.
