Yep. McLaren and Lando were flawless until that.

Once again… what's Checo's excuse?

Bad pit stop put him out of position.

Ugh. Feel for Lando and the team.

Just finished - WOW, terrific race. When Lando slipped off that first time I had a involuntary yell! Man, I feel so bad for him. But, I think McLaren should have made him come in. Of course that's an easy call now.

Awesome for Hamilton to hit #100. Awesome for Max to finish 2nd. And overall another great day for McLaren.

Redbull's team HAS to adjust to this new pit stop protocol.

The new pit protocol is a disaster. F1 tried to fix a problem that did not exist and made a huge problem. Daniel was screwed, many teams are getting screwed by it.

For a newbie, can you elaborate on what the old was and what's changed?

Well I'm a relative newbie as well, but F1 race leadership were apparently getting alarmed at the sub 2.0 second pit stops, thinking it was a safety issue. And there were rumors of a few teams (Red Bull primarily) using electronic devices that would alert the crew when the right torque was reached on the wheel lug, or something like that. So F1 introduced these new regs. I don't claim to understand all of the new regs but they obviously significantly slow the crews down. And the bigger question is why? Tires weren't flying off cars, so why introduce new restrictions when there isn't really a problem at all? It makes no sense to me but again, relative newbie here as well.

And to be clear, if some teams were using electronics on their tools so what. My understanding is it wasn't outlawed by the bylaws. I could be wrong tho.

That was the argument against the halo. The halo would not have saved Jules Bianchi in his crash in Japan as it was too severe for the halo. However, look at how many drivers would have been killed or maimed in the last few years within the halo.

F1 has a required .15 second delay between wheel gun off wheel and green light. I think that's it but caused all the teams procedures to be thrown off.

Doesn't someone have to manually do something for the green light to activate as well? Thought I read something about a slow pit stop and the crew simply forgot to initiate the green light

Yeah I don't know the specifics, but on the broadcast today they mentioned that there is more manual input required by the teams now for the car to be released.

That was a wild race.

Can't believe those last 5 laps.

Wish they would've shown more than 1 of Leclerc's 15-20 passes for position even if he wasn't threatening for the podium.

Really the best possible result for Max here on an engine race swap.

Mercedes really missed an opportunity by not taking their engine penalty at Monza

Both old and new wheelguns have a button that has to be hit , the light only goes green if the button has been hit and the gun has hit the required torque. Before the new tech directive you could hit the button prior to the wheel being tightened which basically made it automatic but now you have tighten the wheel then press the button.

I think guys are running into issues where the button is being hit too early and it's not registering as after the tightening.

Leclerc P19-12 in lap one that wasn't really talked about in the broadcast, at least not in detail. Wild overtaking in the first major braking zone.

I went and looked it up.

Lando only got a reprimand for crossing the pit line. The stewards basically said he did what he should have and it wasn't intentional...so no penalty.

They also probably figured he suffered enough...LOL

I would argue it would've been more dangerous for him to stay out and try to do another lap on slicks.

Does he still have to take a 3 place grid penalty for the incident at Monza, or does the engine penalty trump that? Just curious

I think it took the form of him moving behind other drivers that had back of the grid penalties.

Also mentioned during qualifying that Max need to beat Leclerc by at least 3 to start ahead of him.

Not big news if you are aware of how mismanaged COTA is https://austonia.com/cota-formula-one-contract

guess a trip to Miami will be a must for the next 10 years

Hoping not.

I wish they were financially solvent. It could use some aesthetic upgrades...but they seem to just be holding on.

Yep. One of the worst things about these organizations - they get so wrapped up in the glamour, champagne, women, parties, etc. that they neglect the basic financials.

COTA got poorly managed. I can confirm the second USGP race that they were asking people to sign up to hear more about was never happening, F1 shut them down real quick on that, but COTA didn't listen.

They are also very likely losing the small soccer team, Austin Bold, since they don't really get as many fans as Austin FC does (for obvious reasons).

New Moody Center should take quite a bit of business from them as well.

Sucks cause if all COTA gets is Indy and Nascar, those are series i have no interest on
