Similar to Gasly, he was good enough to make the Red Bull lineup, so he is a quality F1 driver. He just ran into the immense pressure of the RB #2 spot that so far only Perez has been able to navigate.

Was Latifi ever at risk of losing the seat? He's pretty close to a pay driver with his father's investments in Williams, albeit one of the better ones. He and Stroll are light years better than MAZ.

I don't think Latifi was at risk. I just don't think they had announced him yet and waited to announce him and Albon at the same time.
Latifi has been okay but Williams hadn't made much noise until the last few races where all of the sudden they are up to 20 constructor points. The rise of Russell was well covered, but Latifi made a lot of noise himself.

What do people expect to happen with the second alfa seat? Does Gio keep it or is someone new brought in?
I am hoping Mick is moved from Haas to Alpha to get him away from Mazepin.

Both AR and Haas are Ferrari customer teams, and Mick is a Ferrari development driver. Ferrari will make some kind of concession to either to keep him.

They were trying to get him on Williams. Christian was saying he hoped Mercedes didn't block Albon. Looks like Red Bull won that one and Mercedes is still trying to get their guy a spot.

Qualifying is at 11am ct today. Sprint race at 930am ct tomorrow. Excited for the sprint race tomorrow because I was not able to watch the first one due to work travel.
They are bound and determined to run into each other on pit lane. Guess unsafe release only applies to the race.

Crazy how much confidence and desperation play roles in times. Just looking back it seems like when drivers are given extensions or are promoted they seem to drop off ever so slightly. And when they are demoted or know they are fighting for a spot (either to move up in team or keep their current spot) they turn it up. Obviously they are natural reactions, but it's crazy to me how much of a difference it can make. Shows how much is still on driver performance, and just how close they all really are in skill level.

That start was so daring. Loved it. I'm kind of neutral when it comes to rooting for teams or drivers, but I find myself liking Mclaren and Lando most races for reasons I'm not sure of.
Terrible start from Lewis, Mercedes should take his engine penalty as well. Should be an easy win for Max tomorrow unless the McLarens have the pace to challenge - I don't think they do. Good pace from Gio, sad he's likely to lose his seat. Sucks for Gasly.
McLaren had a brilliant strategy for the start having the drivers moving to edge of the track closest to them. Knowing if they get a good clean start, the cars in front will have to move to cover them off. Hamilton at first moved toward the middle then dove down to cover Lando. That left a clear path for Danny and forced Hamilton to lift so he wouldn't crash into Lando.
That took some balls by Lando. He must have felt that Lewis wouldn't risk a wreck and would rather give the position up and hope to pass him later on.

I don't think it would be a good idea to take the penalty this week. Lewis is still in the points. Taking the penalty now means max could extend his lead and Lewis may not get any points. I would think they would take the penalty same race as Max. But I guess if he did it now, as long as he places well when Max takes his penalty it should balance out.

I can definitely see that happening. And I'll never count him out based on his starting place on the grid.
And at Monza, if things get squirrelly in the first chicane, he could easily make up several positions. And from what I have been told, Merc's pace has been the best all weekend. So maybe Silver Arrows has a point for taking the penalty now.

Silver Arrows might have a point here on Ham taking the penalty. Lewis will have to fight thru 2 McLarens, which is doable of course, but the McLarens showed some pace in P1. Lewis never really threatened them in the sprint, but they were on softs and he was running mediums. Its just hard for me to envision them giving up P4 with a good chance of top 2 or 3 points or even a win if Max has issues to starting 2 Mercs behind the grid with 2 Red Bulls in front of them.
