Why would he be mad? Was Perez mad when Red Bull sacrificed his championship points by making him pit, drop out of the points, and go for fastest lap to take points off Lewis at Silverstone? That seems like something to be far more angry about.

He's the second driver and isn't in contention for the championship because he's slower than Lewis. There's no grand conspiracy against Bottas at Mercedes.

He'd get out of the way, the same way Perez got out of Max's way in France. Or follows orders like Perez did in Silverstone.

He'd be mad because it's a natural reaction. Obviously he's being a team player and knows his role. Doesn't mean he has to like it. Perez is probably the same but now that it's almost certain Bottas is leaving Mercedes it does bring the potential of him deciding not to be the good supporting actor.

Why would Bottas do something he hasn't done in 5 years as the 2nd driver at Mercedes? Would make no sense at all. He's been extremely well-compensated by Mercedes (7th highest on the grid, I think) to perform a very specific role and now that LH is nearing the end of his career the team is turning to one of their former junior drivers who most everyone agrees is a potential superstar. Keeping Valterri doesn't make any sense from the team's perspective. He's been a very capable 2nd driver and hasn't really shown he can be the number 1 on a championship contending team.

Because ultimately he is like every other driver on the grid and wants to win and do the absolute best he can. Ok sure he understands his role at merc, but that doesn't mean he has to be happy about intentionally slowing down so lewis can pick up another point. I'm not saying Bottas is hands down a better driver than Hamilton. But it certainly helps you stay in the lead every week when you have another drive who will run interference, slow down, and defer to you every time.

None of these guys like losing

You know what else helps you stay in the lead- being consistently faster than your teammate. Unlike some teams, Mercedes lets their drivers start off on an equal footing and as the year progresses if one driver is not in the hunt they move to second driver status. If Bottas doesn't like that then he should driver faster. It's not like they don't give him the same upgrades as Lewis, unlike Red Bull does to Perez.

I think Bottas hates his role, but swallows hard and accepts it.

I'm just pointing out that all teams/drivers engage in the exact same activities and when I see hypocrisy. I would hope that if you're a fan of the sport you'd do the same. Cheesing emojis don't disprove my point.

I don't think anyone is saying boss ass is a better driver than Hamilton. Just that it has to suck to put your own ambitions in check. Just like it sucks for all the number two drivers. And why do you think Red Bull is not giving Checo the same upgrades as Max? That makes no sense from a team perspective.

And that's the funny thing. No one was criticizing Mercedes per se. just saying bottas is probably mad about it. But you can't suffer the slight and have to jump in with some Redbull comparison. You're damn touchy about even perceived merc criticism. It's fun to watch.

Now that it's official, what is his motivation to be a team player moving forward? Do you think he still concedes to Hamilton every single time?

My guess is they made a bonus offer that would be very rewarding if he stays inline and/or they win the championship(s)

Exactly. Ask Ocon if his teammate Alonso had anything to do with his win.

I am seeing that every team is telling fans to be optimistic in 2022. My question is do you guys think that more teams will be competitive, or will we see the same 4 to 5 teams dominate? I cant imagine how Williams, Hass, Sauber (Alfa Rameo) and Alpine can be more competitive

Williams' new owners have a lot more capital to invest in R&D, plus the new development token system. I actually think they are well positioned to jump well up the order. It was just 6-7 years ago that they were fighting for P3 in the constructors championship with multiple podiums. De Vries is quick and motivated to make the most of his F1 opportunity.

Alpine has Renault money behind them, and it's still the same Enstone factory that won 2005 and 2006. I would argue with Alonso's development help, they could see a rise, as well. If not, (and call me crazy), I think we see Alonso join Red Bull in 2023.

Sauber and Haas don't really have the money that the other two do, and are likely positioned to stay at the back of the grid. Both are effectively Ferrari B-teams at this point, and Haas is so cash strapped, that he may sell the team to Dimitri Mazepin. I don't really see either way working out for Haas. Sauber will have a good driver pairing in Bottas and Schumacher (or Latifi), but they will still be underfunded.

2022 is a major technical rules change. Every time that has happened in past there has been one or two teams that have made a major breakthrough or found a loophole that has granted them a large advantage which typically takes multiple years to close. The technical regulations will be more strict next year, offering fewer opportunities for development, but I still think one team will get it right relative to the others. For a couple of examples of what I'm referring to google:

2014 Mercedes split turbo

To steal from the Brits, it's bloody brilliant. Such a simple idea that leads to so many complex problems but then gives you so much reward in the end.
