There's no difference in standards. Hamilton is the one in the spot light on the tv broadcasts, not the other drivers. That's my exposure.

You keep bringing up these different standards being applied for Lewis, but no one here is moving goal posts on him.

Not enough talk about OOOOOOOCOOOOOOOOOON!

So happy for that kid

Also, F1 is so much better with Alonso in it.

I am very happy for Ocon. Seeing the joy and excitement on his face was awesome.

HAM fell from pole to P3 and that was all on him and his team. It could've been worse, but it should have been an easy win. Ocon and Vettel did a fantastic job with what they have to work with and it was so exciting to see them battle for P1.

Mercedes has an interesting conundrum because they are extremely image-conscious and now they have a pretty big issue on their hands. HAM takes out VER at Silverstone and gets a penalty so he was judged to have been in the wrong. BOT takes out his closest competitor (NOR), ruins the car of VER, takes out the 2nd RB (who were leading MB in the constructor's championship) and presto - HAM is back on top and MB are back on top. I have a hard time seeing how BOT didn't just lose his ride for next season and MB are probably going to have some words with Wolff and, at the very least, tell him to shut the eff up and maybe act a little contrite given the impact of the "good luck" they've received the last two races. MB is not going to be happy if they get the "cheat to win" label. MB absolutely doesn't mind getting the "outspend to win" label since that's great marketing for the brand, but they're heading down a pretty dark path and the 3 week break couldn't have come at a better time as it gives them time to get ahead of the worsening PR situation.

And now looks like Hamilton will end up in P2.

What the hell kind of pointless regulation is that?

You give them a max of 100kg of fuel to start. You have fuel flow rate regs. You have a minimum post race car+driver weight.

Why give a flying F how much fuel is left at the end?

Bottas will get the most press because of the RB cars involved but stroll was a wild bit of driving that made no sense

I think he was diving to the right to escape contact...which he did really well. Why he went back to the left instead of staying off the track, I don't know. Makes me think he lost control. But it looks like really good driving followed up with really poor driving.

Happy for Ocon. His parents sacrificed a lot for him to get to F1.

I think they have to have enough remaining for sampling. I could be wrong but I think came up a few years ago in a racing context and qualifying in Spain 2012.

In the post race coverage the commentators briefly touched in his journey to F1. I don't know his story so I'll be doing some google searches about him when I get back to the house.

Sounds like this win is pretty special beyond the fact of it being a middle of the pack team and young driver first win.

Idk. Seems like there would be a way to ensure there would be 1L remaining at the end. But who knows.

Yeah I know when he came into F1 there were a few stories about his upbringing. I believe his family sold the home and they travelled via motorhome to support his career.

Him and Gasly were apparently really close but had a falling out. Also Ocon was the driver that dodged Kimi in the wet at Brazil 2016.

Toto owns just as much of the team as Mercedes does and he's the CEO/principal. He doesn't get told what to do by Mercedes Benz

Toto Wolff is a 33% owner of the team, but he's not an owner of the company that makes the engine and isn't even the majority owner of the team. He has latitude as the CEO, but he doesn't control the board. Daimler and Ineos control the board. So Daimler does not remain silent when the PR or anything else goes wrong. F1 is a huge marketing tool for Daimler pretty much everywhere but in the US and they like things to be very tightly managed. They haven't been shy about telling the team to manage its employees in the past and I can't imagine they would now all of a sudden not care about the perception of the brand. Daimler did reduce its stake from 60% going into this season so there voice is a little less prominent, but it is still incredibly important that Daimler is kept happy. Daimler is an equal owner of the team and the complete owner of the company that makes the power unit. There's a reason why HAM always thanks the guys at the factories - it's part of his job to throw some love that way.

AM breached (depending on the appeal) a technical regulation which usually are treated far more strictly. It's not like this was some sort of rule sprung upon AM. You have to have the requisite amount of fuel for a sample at the end of the race.

However Renault was disqualified for breaching Sporting Regulations a few years ago. It seems like if your car isn't compliant it's a disqualification.

After havIng Mercedes send Max off-course two races in a row, giving Lewis additonal points after the race is a really, really bad look for the FIA.

Not that you'd see that given your username.

Btw- didn't know this thread existed. Happy to have found it. I have no one to talk F1 with
In the immortal words of John McClain, "Welcome to the party pal!"

My family became F1 fans about 3 years ago because my son is an avid MB fan. It is nice to be able to have a community of F1 fans to converse with, since F1 Twitter can be overwhelming

It's a bad look to those that don't understand the rules and regulations of F1. Upsetting them is completely fine. I don't see it because I've been following F1 for nearly 20 years and understand why things happen a certain way, not because of my username.

I'm not crying because everyone that finished after Vettel was moved up a spot because of his own team's error.

After years of my watching F1 going back to Senna/Prost, we finally have an actual competition between two teams that has been absent for years. I'm just friggin' tired of the FIA getting in their own way by getting technical at the worst friggin' times. So don't lecture me on your fandom, because I've been there before.

And if you want people to take you seriously, your username doesn't help.

Your argument is ridiculous. You're upset that the FIA is adhering to technical regulations that are known by every team and have imposed penalties for violating those rules in the past (Including against Lewis in Spain 2012) because they benefit Lewis. You then for some reason compare that to the penalty that Lewis received for an in race incident on the first lap in the previous race. If you've been following F1 as long as you claim, you'd know first lap incidents are treated differently and sometimes not even penalized at all; Stroll vs. Leclerc last year.

The FIA isn't getting in it's own way. Getting in their own way would be Alonso being penalized for "blocking" Massa at Monza in 2006, Renault having their Mass Damper banned, or JPM getting a ridiculous penalty in Malaysia.

I absolutely do not care if internet strangers take me seriously based on my username, I'm not a child. Refute my argument.

Aston Martin is disputing the ruling. They claim they had 1.74 liters of fuel available at the end of the race

This all came out before the DQ was handed out, so i don't know how much of a difference it'll make in regards to the appeal.
