The people who write the checks, you know, losers right? Yeah, those guys. I get the feeing from a very informal poll with only few data points that there isn't the bloodlust that many of you seem to have.

Of course, if you've got a few million burning a hole in your broker's pocket I'm sure Trev would happily take your call.

It would be absolute insanity at the highest level to keep Earley. We are not a place that should ever accept this type of season. Shame on dermdoc for even starting this thread. Get out of here with that nonsense. Have some pride. Damn. Aggies will continue to get what we accept. Keep accepting losers and we'll continue to lose.
And is this a public or private shaming?

When has A&M ever been rewarded for giving a coach another year? In any sport? I'm being serious - I can't name one. Fact is once the fanbase is having this argument and dividing up sides, the cake is already baked. 100% record as far as I can remember.

The thing I really love about A&M the university is the steep loyalty that all Aggies feel for each other. It's also one of the things that drives me crazy about our coaching decisions. We show loyalty to coaches, many for no reason. Michael Earley has not earned another year. We can all agree to that. So, why exactly are we all freely giving him that extra year? For loyalty? I will say, for me, had Mike stuck around around when POS ditched and Mike got the job, this would be a different discussion. But Mike bailed on us and only came back after the players put us over a barrel. In other words, if you are giving the guy another year for that well entrenched Aggie loyalty, I would ask why are we loyal to Mike when he wasn't loyal to us? Mike's been a disaster. Mike knows it. Heck, Mike probably thinks he is going to get fired. He has to know that he deserves to be fired.

Childress went 25-30, then made a super the next year. Douchnazzle went 38-27 then ended up in the cws finals the next year. You cant just knee jerk fire anyone after one year, create that culture and reputable coaches wouldnt even show up for the interview.
Neither of those examples were discussions about whether or not to give them another year. You are talking about a coach's first year. I grant you that it will be and would be very extraordinary to can a guy after 1 year. I'm specifically talking about a coach that completely wet the bed and the fanbase is torn between giving him another year or not - regardless of how long he was here. 0Childress' moment came several years later when we were all torn on whether he would get us over the top. Turns out he didn't. Schloss was never a discussion. He left before we ever had that conversation. Coaches that I can remember us having this discussion about:

1. RC - several years we had that discussion before we finally exited him. Arguably too late and the damage was too immense to recover. Still recovering.

2. Fran - constant battle on TexAgs on whether he deserved more or less time. We did give him a few more years and it amounted to nothing

3. Sumlin - see #2

4. Childress - later in his tenure here. We never got over the top.

5. Buzz - he righted the ship and got us into the tourney, but left here with most believing he never really added up to the bill we paid

I could give you lots of smaller program coaches: Joni Taylor, Evans, Guerreri but no one really cares about those either.

Still waiting for one where we held firm and gave the guy another year and he rewarded us with championships (conf or NCAA).

IIRC, in a very early season interview, Jace made a comment on the potential being there for a return run at the CWS Championship, "injury's aside".
It was almost a premonition of our season.
Jace may have (probably already did) known of Caden Sorrell's hamstring injury!

I'm skeptical, but LB12Diamond has assured us there are BMAs that are willing to fork over the buyout and pay for the new coach. If we don't somehow miraculously make the postseason, I hope he's right.

That works both ways though.

We fired Sumlin because people wanted blood and that left us with the worst buyout in the history of sports and like an orange bowl win to show for it.

We fired Kennedy after he doubled our programs history of Sweet 16 appearances because people wanted blood and that left us with hefty bill for a couple second round appearances.

We fired Childress and got schloss who WAS an improvement, but was a couple of Omaha appearances worth the damage it will have done to our program?

We got rid of Evan's cause people wanted blood and she is setting records at her new stop while we can't get out of a regional or super regional while paying a lot of money for Ford.

People keep clamoring to fire coaches and that leaves us with expensive replacements who never really do much either.

I don't know if Earley should stay or not.

I do know that our decision makers have almost NEVER made a good hire for men's major sports and there is no reason to think they will start now.

Furthermore, I don't think any big name coach will come here no matter how much money is offered. Not right now anyway.

The whole thing is a draw to me. There is no clear, slam dunk move imo.

Finally, and it's just a gut feeling, but Earley seems like he might be the guy. I won't mind if he's given another year. (for the most part, depending on the sitch)

He did pretty terrible as a coach. If you were told this would be the result in January you would have said he must have been terrible.

I want the best for Aggie Baseball. At this point in time it looks like Early needs to stay. We may need a new assistant coach or 2. Players love playing for him. Let him cook.

I'm honestly good either way. I think he will improve year to year but I'll respect the decision to let him go if they think they have a homerun hire.

I'd say I'm 60/40 in favor of keeping him.

This is terrible logic. The only one worth a damn is the first one. We essentially traded Sumlin for really expensive version of him.

Kennedy had parkinsons and only made the tourney twice in eight years. He was really bad when he didn't make the tourney. You don't keep that kind of coach around. Buzz was fine by our standards but overhyped and paid for what he actually accomplished.

Childress missed the tourney in his last year, and ****nagle made the the semis of the CWS his first year and took us the finals last year. As long as we fix the earley mistake, well early on, then it was worth it.

Evans was done and falling farther and farther back in the conference every year. She hadn't made it past regional round in several years when she was fired. Ford may have choked this year but she made supers last year and was a no 1 national seed this year. Evans just made the postseason at her new school this year. She didn't make it out of regional this year. I don't think she is setting records.

I agree the answer isn't always to moneywhip coaches but the answer it is sure isn't keeping around middling or declining coaches.

I mean other than ****nagle we've never hired a sitting a college baseball HC before. We always promoted assistants or from lower ranks. I think chandler was HS coach.

Our biggest problem is we don't view coaches as the mercenaries they are. We get attached to them and then get angry when people recognize they are not very good. If they had better options, they'd leave A&M in an instant for bigger guaranteed contract somewhere else.

I think a big problem with earley is no one can point to a real bright spot that says he will be a good coach anytime soon. Its more like we cannot fire him after one year or its too much money to fire him. That is the most depressing thing. No one really buys him being capable anytime soon.

I'm waffling a bit myself. Just curious though. What's your explanation for the Mizzou series? I get that it took awhile for Earley to get his footing and then he seemed to figure things out a bit and our play did a 180 but the wtf Mizzou series leaves me baffled. I think he mishandled the pitching at the end of game 1 and if we had won that game the series might have turned out differently -- but not winning any games against the last place team at home? Thoughts?

Oh and the other issue I can't wrap my head around is how a hitting coach with past success can lead his team to the bottom of the conference in hitting. That one is mind boggling. Are he and Longley confusing the hell out of our hitters by coaching the opposite of each other?

Just a gut feeling. I have no inside info or connections.

I'm hoping he'll be a fast learner. With some new assistants and a little experience under his belt, I can see the Ags back in the hunt sooner rather than later.

Or maybe it will all implode due to injury and other bad luck. Life is a crap shoot.

If he was a fast learner you don't get swept by Missouri at home in the second to last series of the year

I am not convinced any of the usual suspect replacement names being thrown around are no-brainer, can't miss, CWS regular options. Between that and A&M being one of the 20-25 schools that have the combination of resources, location & support the program can turn around almost immediately, so I would not pitch a fit if he got 1 more year.

This.

And people's reactions to the guy. They love him.

That kind of thing can be good or not so good (cult of personality), but it might be worth an extra year with Earley as coach to find out.

I watched every pitch and swing live. The six run top of the ninth in the first game was unbelievable.

Why is it needed? He seems like a great guy and I like that the players love playing for him, but that doesn't mean he has what it takes to be a great coach.

My worry is that other than a small stretch between Tennessee and Arkansas, we didn't see much improvement from our offense. That's supposed to be Earley's specialty. In a must win situation we got out doors blown off by an atrocious Mizzou team.

I give him a pass for the early season faults, but I don't think we have seen enough improvement out of this team to justify another year. Even if we allow him to grow, what if his ceiling isn't similar to Vitello but more similar to Childress? I don't think the growing pains are worth that risk.
a.froman

If they loved playing for him, why is their whole hitting approach different this year than last year? One would think they would have kept what he taught them last year if you loved the guy and his messages

I just hope he will pick a new pitching coach.

Key for me was when Jeff Kent's son came back to play this year. Respect.
