So name the position player talent other than Jace, Sorrell and maybe Kent. Jace slumped beginning in the CWS. Sorrell hurt. No disrespect but thinking our talent was overall great is delusional. And didn't come close to last year.
If you think Earley was fighting with a short stick, then you don't watch a lot of SEC baseball. Was the team as good as last year? No, although the starting rotation was a LOT better, bullpen was a question mark (until late) and the lineup not as good without Montgomery, Appel, and Burton. Was it a below average SEC lineup? No, not even close. There was plenty of talent on this roster, they just didn't come close to playing to their potential consistently (just about everyone did for brief spells).

Pitching is why I say "possibly significant less talent". There is no reason whatsoever for a team to not make the tournament with the starting pitching we had.

We didn't have the year I wanted. Fire the first year coach after one year. That's the way to build programs.

Man if many questions. Answer this one.

How did the team look with regards to basic fundamentals all season?

Again

You don't win those series without top talent. End of discussion.

If you can't accept that. That's concerning.

As Saban has stated. Coaching is critical when playing teams that your team thinks they are better than. That's when the real coaching occurs to have your players focused and ready. Well, we all know what took place all season in those type of games.

I saw a ranking of Div 1 coaches yesterday. Yeppers, Earley was dead last.

What were the ranking metrics? One season is tough to rank a coach.

I believe it was based on who did the least compared to the talent on their team.

We hired a guy who wasn't qualified for the job. We knew that, but were taking a gamble based upon keeping the roster together, and hoping that Earley just happened to be one of those guys with innate coaching qualities that could overcome his experience (the timing didn't leave us with great choices). You saw the results. He took what is likely to be his most talented roster (if he stays on) and finished 14th.

If we make a change, you won't see us hiring someone with similar qualifications.

We definitely had some fundamental breakdowns. Fielding ended at about .975, which is good but can be misleading because it doesn't necessarily account for mental mistakes. A problem was waiting so long to move Farr off second base. There were still coverage issues. I would note that Kent played second last year, so he was in a new position. As to bunting, Schlossnagle rarely bunted, so none of them had much in game bunting experience. I just think Firing Earley after one season would be a mistake. Let him bring in the class he has lined up, add some portals, and give it another year.

I have to note that we had two true fish starting. Farr probably got NIL,, but was a SS in HS. TK had a good year, but was way over anxious to swing the bat in crucial spots. Not unusual for a fish

In the last game of the season, when everything was depending on winning, he pinch hit a guy with 1-1 count already.

Quit this line of reasoning. It was not a normal hire. It was a desperation situation coming off of an epic betrayal. You cannot treat like we had some long search and landed on Earley and now we need to invest time in him. He is years away from becoming a competent HC. If he is not fired, he will not make a regional here next year either.

Earley was a glorified interim hire in the end. It failed, and it is going to be corrected.

This seem like conflicting statements.

How if there an "if he is not fired" ... if it is going to be corrected?

Nope

He changed pitchers at any time in the count, multiple times. Never once saw him change out a batter on a 1-1 count.

I can't remember POS ever PHing in the middle of a bat. IF he did, maybe it was because a mid-AB injury. And yes, he did change pitchers in the middle of an AB, but that is much, much more common than the other. I don't think I've ever even seen a mid-AB batter change....

Mid plate-appearance batter changes happen.

Usually because of injury, but can also happen if a pitcher changes to get a designed LH/RH matchup or because the batter just seems to be struggling.

Y'all are calling for Earley to leave after less than a year to "limit the damage" and you can use the same logic if a batter takes a swing regressing to something they tried to get away from in practice. Why give him more pitches if you know he's going to miss them or worse, GiDP?

Many of Earley's decisions(like the PH one we're talking about or pulling Luke Jackson against Bama when he was dominating) have to have been super damaging for the players' confidence. I mean, if your own coach doesn't believe in you... Earley has got to go.

For a first year coach Earley did great. Our schizoid fan base needs to make up its mind if it wants up and comer coaches or not when a known good coach isn't readily available or the situation simply dictates it makes no sense to wait to hire.

I don't think Trev will take dictation from fans. So might want to frame the proposal so he will listen.

Did you ever listen to Earley post-games or TexAgs appearances?

I am sorry but it IS pretty clear guy is brand new to being a HC and seemed completely LOST at times. Lost for words and lost for corrections.

If he stays, we better commit to 3 years as he will need at least one more year to develop and make more mistakes. Sure he learned a lot but don't believe this program needs a developmental coach considering our resources and committed baseball fans.

Like Earley but definitely time to move on. Too many poor decisions including his ENTIRE offensive approach early in the season.

I guess dermdoc gets his way.

If we're in the same place next year, watching squeeze play while we're out of the tournament, you owe me a lot of booze.

You knew it the moment this thread was posted and the author of it. This wasn't an organic thought on a whim.

Trial balloon. Hope for everyone's sake Earley succeeds and learns how to lead a program real fast.

Rarely is a program given a chance to re-correct so easily and painlessly. And we aren't going to do it. Too bad.

Wow, you're a wizard. I also noticed OP never really gave a reason to have him back. Just that he wanted him.

It should have been a sign.

Now I want to know who was telling KR that earley was likely out (there is no way he made that up out of thin air, he was on it early on (almost two months ago I remember first tweet alluding to a change)).
