I think this thing breaks one way or the other in 2017

Rob will either get to Omaha, or he'll tank back to going on the road for regional play before getting sent home, or not make post season at all

I hope it's the former, but if it's the latter, I hope we finally move on and make a change
Rocco S

Don't think that RC will be leaving.

no doubt the clock is ticking on his 2nd Omaha appearance. Even the sunshine pumpers understand that. The missing Omaha streak cannot go on forever

I just don't see any changes if we keep making supers

I do think if we miss the supers in 2017 and '18, or miss the post season in EITHER of those years, change will be made

that's the window I see too. Gotta get that 2nd appearance by 2018. Otherwise it would be 1 trip in 13 years...and 0 for 7 since Blue Bell Park was built/renovated

We have unbelievably low standards. Posters saying 1 CWS in 13 years might make a change.

Must be the best job ever. Top notch facilities, top recruiting territory, great place to live, great fan support and if you don't win a big part of the fan base will defend you to the end.

We have VERY low standards

If we miss the supers the next 2 years, as long as we make regionals, there will be militant clingers on here advocating for no change

This mentality just doesn't compute with me - it's like turning down a job offer that could potentially be a bonanza simply because you make enough now to cover the bills and you don't want to take a chance. I just don't get it. Obviously some do, which is why we are always mentioned as a "dark horse" or a school that "should have, could have, would have...were it not for some event....".
Not sure how it doesn't compute - it's the entire reason for the proverb "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush". Some folks are risk takers, but with the potential bonanza you also have a pretty equal probability of a bust. Obviously I'm not big on taking risks and like what we have and I'm also one who has turned town job offers for increased salary because I'm good with where I am. Yes, I could make more but the increased pay isn't worth the risk or lost time with family and we want for nothing as it is.
Point is that if you never take a chance, you'll always be in the same position. Which is fine if you are happy with it I suppose.

And if you are happy being a team that makes regionals with regularity and supers about half the time you make a regional, but almost always a team that watches others play for the big trophy, I'm sure you are happy as a pig in slop. Because that is exactly what we are.

To put it in terms of salary, we cover our bills, live fairly comfortably, and manage to put a little back each month. But our retirement is lacking and we take vacations to Galveston beach because it's a day drive versus going to Hawaii or Bora Bora like our friends get to do. Oh sure, we dream and talk about it occasionally, then convince ourselves that "we just aren't fancy people" and talk about how much we didn't spend on vacation while looking at pictures on facebook from the neighbor down the street that gets to go to all kinds of interesting places year in and year out and whom is able to get a new car every few years instead of driving a 10 year old car that's seen better days. Hey, it's nice to just cover the bills after all.

Not quite accurate - more like we're making $200k+ a year and making regular skiing / Caribbean vacations with an occasional trip to Europe and see some friends on Facebook making epic trips here and there but don't see them post when some go broke from time to time (t.u.) or have fallen on tougher times (Baylor, to some extent Rice). Just like the real world when you have 300 friends, someone's always on a great trip - have to be careful to not judge your own life on the highlights of 300 others.

That's a horrible analogy. We aren't risking anything by firing RC. The thought that we could possibly fall off the college baseball map by firing RC is really dumb.

Seriously you sound like an overly concerned mother in law

Absolutely. We have resources (recruiting base, facilities, etc) better than probably 90 or 95% of D1 programs.

Should be. With our fan support, facilities, resources, geography, Talent pool.....

Autopilot

And while my answer is still yes, a Texas A&M fan crowing about being in the top 20% of college baseball programs is gut-busting laughable

Yeah, you told us...

This thread has gone on long enough. Both sides have eloquently made there cases and neither side is going to agree with the other no matter what is typed. At this point further comments are not going to secure Childress a longer contract and they are not going to cause his dismissal. We all know he is going to be the coach in 2017. Continuing this thread does not benefit the Texas A&M program in any way.

Southern Cal surely thought the same when parting ways with their coach in '06. They've been back in the tournament once since then. If any program could sleepwalk into the tournament SC should given their history.

Lol... weren't you just saying not to compare ourselves to our neighbors?

Anyway, no CWS in the next year or two and I'm willing to see us take that risk

I get it... you have a weak constitution and don't like risk

Plus, you have no credibility with a username like that... disgustingly patting Aggies on the head, telling us to know our place, while you cheer your team to Omaha

I find my fan experience a lot more rewarding when I get to a place where I just want good things for the players, rather than the players and coaches owing me some predetermined level of success.

What about LSU firing Lavall?

Or Clemson firing their coach?

Plenty of examples opposite yours

Go easy on getting rid of RC. He has been developing a lot of ML ball players recently. It seems to be more than in the past.

There is a lot of stupidity on this thread but this is the single dumbest sentence in any argument on this subject. Not surprising with who it came from.

His stated goal is a dog pile in Omaha. Congrats to the guys making MLB but that's not the purpose of the program.

Absolutely and by offering financial aid and the opportunity to attend this university that's being taken care of. I was talking about the baseball program. The purpose is to win.
