no doubt the clock is ticking on his 2nd Omaha appearance. Even the sunshine pumpers understand that. The missing Omaha streak cannot go on forever

We have unbelievably low standards. Posters saying 1 CWS in 13 years might make a change.
Must be the best job ever. Top notch facilities, top recruiting territory, great place to live, great fan support and if you don't win a big part of the fan base will defend you to the end.
quote:Point is that if you never take a chance, you'll always be in the same position. Which is fine if you are happy with it I suppose.quote:Not sure how it doesn't compute - it's the entire reason for the proverb "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush". Some folks are risk takers, but with the potential bonanza you also have a pretty equal probability of a bust. Obviously I'm not big on taking risks and like what we have and I'm also one who has turned town job offers for increased salary because I'm good with where I am. Yes, I could make more but the increased pay isn't worth the risk or lost time with family and we want for nothing as it is.
This mentality just doesn't compute with me - it's like turning down a job offer that could potentially be a bonanza simply because you make enough now to cover the bills and you don't want to take a chance. I just don't get it. Obviously some do, which is why we are always mentioned as a "dark horse" or a school that "should have, could have, would have...were it not for some event....".

And if you are happy being a team that makes regionals with regularity and supers about half the time you make a regional, but almost always a team that watches others play for the big trophy, I'm sure you are happy as a pig in slop. Because that is exactly what we are.
To put it in terms of salary, we cover our bills, live fairly comfortably, and manage to put a little back each month. But our retirement is lacking and we take vacations to Galveston beach because it's a day drive versus going to Hawaii or Bora Bora like our friends get to do. Oh sure, we dream and talk about it occasionally, then convince ourselves that "we just aren't fancy people" and talk about how much we didn't spend on vacation while looking at pictures on facebook from the neighbor down the street that gets to go to all kinds of interesting places year in and year out and whom is able to get a new car every few years instead of driving a 10 year old car that's seen better days. Hey, it's nice to just cover the bills after all.

Not quite accurate - more like we're making $200k+ a year and making regular skiing / Caribbean vacations with an occasional trip to Europe and see some friends on Facebook making epic trips here and there but don't see them post when some go broke from time to time (t.u.) or have fallen on tougher times (Baylor, to some extent Rice). Just like the real world when you have 300 friends, someone's always on a great trip - have to be careful to not judge your own life on the highlights of 300 others.

Southern Cal surely thought the same when parting ways with their coach in '06. They've been back in the tournament once since then. If any program could sleepwalk into the tournament SC should given their history.

I find my fan experience a lot more rewarding when I get to a place where I just want good things for the players, rather than the players and coaches owing me some predetermined level of success.

That's a horrible analogy. We aren't risking anything by firing RC. The thought that we could possibly fall off the college baseball map by firing RC is really dumb.
Seriously you sound like an overly concerned mother in law

What about LSU firing Lavall?
Or Clemson firing their coach?
Plenty of examples opposite yours

Go easy on getting rid of RC. He has been developing a lot of ML ball players recently. It seems to be more than in the past.
