10. Texas A&M
Possible starters: Marcus Williams (transfer), Manny Obaseki (Fr.), Quenton Jackson, Jordan Hall (transfer), Javonte Brown (transfer)
Bench: Andre Gordon, Hayden Hefner, Hassan Diarra, Henry Coleman III (transfer), Ethan Henderson (transfer), Aaron Cash (junior college), Wade Taylor IV (Fr.), Ashton Smith (Fr.)
Buzz Williams has attempted to restock and restart his program with promising but largely unproven (at the SEC level) talent. Ranked No. 31 in the Class of 2021, Obaseki (6-foot-4 shooting guard) is the second-highest ranked player (behind DeAndre Jordan) in the 247Sports Composite to sign with A&M. Taylor, a 5-10 point guard, is a borderline top-100 prospect too. Williams was Mountain West Rookie of the Year at Wyoming, averaging 14.8 points and 4.3 assists. Hall was Atlantic-10 All-Freshman at St. Joseph's, averaging 10.6 points, 5.9 rebounds and 5.7 assists as a 6-8 forward. Coleman was a top-50 recruit who played just five minutes per game as a freshman at Duke, Brown a four-star 7-footer who transferred after two games at Connecticut, Henderson the No. 1 recruit in Arkansas who averaged 6.9 minutes in three years with the Razorbacks. How many of these newcomers can really help? Jackson (10.4 ppg, 41.1 percent from 3) and Gordon (9.3 ppg, 2.7 apg) are back to offer some stability for the Aggies and surely some of the fresh faces will pan out, but this feels more like a bridge year than a breakout season.
Gabe said he doesn't know who Looch is talking about. Logan spoke more generally last week like having a spot available might be good later in the summer if somebody good pops into the portal. So maybe its not a specific person Looch is referencing or maybe Logan is trying to steer the message that way to avoid tampering suggestions as somebody mentioned the other day Billy does a weekly Q&A and somebody asked for about the potential basketball recruit so it will be interesting to see if Billy answers it and what he says.Aggie09Derek said:
I'm guessing you know who Looch is referring to.
Mitchell to Texas. Beard has cleaned up in the portal.LawHall88 said:

I forgot about Marcus Carr, who I have long assumed is going pro.
Top available on this particular list - Carr, Mitchell, Bagley, Darryl Morsell (Maryland).

I won't say anything about Marcus Carr then.MarcAg said:
Way to go LawHall. New Texas staff reading this board and are like oh yeah we forgot that kid was out there. We should go get him.
Buzz isn't Top 10 (according to this link he's 12).Proposition Joe said:bobinator said:Ag_EE_88 said:
Are y'all saying that there is an issue with Buzz being able to evaluate talent?
Not necessarily. I think there have been some misses for sure, but that's not that unusual. Our program is probably always going to be built on getting fringe three/four stars and coaching them up and then occasionally, hopefully, sprinkling in a truly good prospect.
I get what you are saying, but we're paying Buzz a Top 10 salary - if we're just hoping to and 3/4* fringe prospects and a stud every once in a while then we might as well have just either gone bargain shopping and hope to find the next Beard/BCG/etc... or go with a known recruiter without much coaching prowess.
Paying $4m a year to need to coach fringe guys up -- and then not being able to actually do that the first 2 years - is a colossally poor investment.

No there really isnt. Maybe kid isnt in the portal. Or maybe its a juco like Curry.
I would gladly take Kevin Samuel, but very few people know who he is. He had a down year, but he can definitely give you quality minutes inside.
JonRothstein: TCU transfer Kevin Samuel tells me that he has committed to Florida Gulf Coast.

Marcus Carr is expected to withdraw from the 2021 NBA Draft and return to college next season, per his mentor Vidal Massiah.

Carr is also in the transfer portal and will be one of the highest sought after transfers if he decides to leave Minnesota.

PF "super senior" from UTEP. Would be a good get.Truly blessed to have had the opportunity to speak with coaches from @OSUMBB @UW_MBB @aggiembk @RazorbackMBB

I thought the super senior forward from UTEP we'd be after is the venerable Eric Vila. Have him pull a Marfo and come back home.
Source: UTEP's Eric Vila will play professionally in Spain and will not return to college next season. Was an early entrant to the NBA Draft.

7’ Kofi Cockburn, who was a 2nd-team All-American & 1st-team All-Big 10, will enter the transfer portal, while keeping his name in the NBA Draft. @kxng_alpha , who averaged 17.7 points & 9.5 rebounds this season, is exploring all options. He can instantly elevate any program.🇯🇲 pic.twitter.com/a9VYNiWPlp

Cockburn said he went to Illinois because "Coach O [Orlando Antigua] recruited me for years and we developed a great connection." Coach O is now at Kentucky. So, I hope Javante Brown can handle him.Topher17 said:
Now that would qualify as an enormous get. Can't imagine a talent like that would end up at A&M right?
Any prior connections to our staff or players?
This NIL thing now...you've seen nothing yet. Pretty soon you'll more and more see sports 'NIL' agents/consultants driving the recruiting process...working through how A&M is going to help the recruit build and cash in on his personal brand while in College Station. If somebody has convinced a recruit he'll be able to make 20K a month in endorsements, appearances, etc. while at their school, Buzz better have at least a similar package detailed out.Tavares19 said:

BREAKING: Alabama guard Jaden Shackelford is putting his name into the transfer portal. Averaged 14 ppg, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists on a top 10 Bama team. 2020-2021 ALL-SEC player.

Oral Roberts forward Kevin Obanor is in the transfer portal, listed as a graduate transfer. Obanor averaged 18.7 points and 9.6 rebounds in helping Max Abmas lead Oral Roberts to the Sweet 16 last year. Immediately will be one of the most sought-after transfers in the country.
