Bayela goes to the same JUCO as Jevonnie Scott.

After 5 minutes of research this kid intrigues me. I'll take a shot on him for sure.

No sign in those highlights that he can make anything other than a dunk, but if the kid consistently plays like that on defense and is as athletic as he looks in those highlights, he'd definitely be worth a scholly.

So he's basically Flagg but plays defense? We could work with that.

We offered and were recruiting Bayela back in late summer I believe before we ever offered his teammate Scott. I got the impression that we moved on and took Cash instead bc he looked better this season than Bayela did.

Oh, okay, if he actually has a passable shooting ability too, then 2X no-brainer take!

Looks like a wild card, but an intriguing wild card. While his 3-pt shooting went down from his freshman year, his overall FG% went up 2-3%, he had a significant drop in turnovers and a significant increase in rebounds/game.

He's longer and is more fluid than Flagg. Wingspan is ridiculous.

We probably didnt even want Disu. So many studs with aggie parents entering the portal every day. We're just being extremely selective.
Did his parents really go to A&M?
No, he mentioned his family was A&M fan but he grew up as a longhorn fan and even attended a Mack Brown football camp. The longhorns were his dream school.

Texas A&M: "I talked to every coach on the staff so far, especially Buzz Williams. They are looking to turn the program around and feel I could be one of the players to potentially help them do that. With the school being my dad's alma mater it is definitely interesting."

Thanks for clarifying! My bad. I read an orangeblood article where they just include a quote where they mentioned their family was a&m fans.

You read a WHAT???

But can he hit the side of the back board from the corner 3 pt line?

I really don't want another guy who hits the side of the back board from the corner 3. Especially ones who get their own rebound and then airball a layup.

How is his inbounds defense? We have a gaping void at that position on this roster.

Ryan Hawkins, 6-7 stretch 4 from Division II Northwest Missouri State. Shot 46% from 3 this season.
Quote:

The list of schools recruiting Northwest Missouri State transfer Ryan Hawkins, an Iowa native who dominated as a multisport athlete at Atlantic, is long.

It does not, however, include Iowa State and Iowa. Hawkins still has plenty of options. One very notable option is Kansas. Head coach Bill Self called Hawkins on Tuesday, Hawkins' trainer, John Lamb, told me. The Jayhawks have already dipped into the Division II pool with Missouri Southern State center Cam Martin. Now, they're going after Hawkins, who was Martin's opponent in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

Hawkins was arguably the best player in Division II last year. The 6-7 stretch forward averaged 22.6 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game while shooting 54% overall and 46% (87-for-189) from 3-point range, and he led NW Missouri State to a 28-2 record and the program's third national championship in his four years there. In this year's title game, Hawkins logged 31 points and 18 rebounds in the 80-54 win over West Texas A&M University.

Creighton is another school thought to be a major player. Hawkins is an Iowa native, but he grew up just an hour from the Omaha school closer than the two hours to Iowa State or three hours to Iowa.

Other potential high-major destinations to watch: Illinois, Minnesota, Georgia, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt.

Yes we need this kid. I don't see how we win that race though. Not mentioned in that article is he was defensive player of the year in his conference multiple years.

Musselman was the master of recruiting transfers before there was a portal. He gave an interview recently where he said, in so many words, that the only difference now is we can take as many as we want since they don't have to sit out a year.

I wouldn't read it that way. I would read it as those schools offered him, but they may or may not have a spot for him at this point.

Two I think but might just add one more and leave one open since Q puts at 13 (Q doesn't count against the limit). I assume he is staying but no formal announcement that I know of.

Another one to watch- 6'7 Arthur Kaluma. Decommitted from unlv. Ranked 43. We were one of his top schools.. https://m.lasvegassun.com/news/2021/apr/27/unlv-basketball-loses-top-recruit-arthur-kaluma/

With Coleman now in the boat, I would be surprised if they were able to land any more transfers who could be a significant part of next year's rotation. The roster probably now looks pretty 'crowded', so if another guy seems likely would be a developmental project willing to mostly ride the pine for at least one season. Kudos if they get somebody better than that, at this point.
MarcAg
How long do you want to ignore this user?

I think we can definitely still add transfers of impact. But Kaluma is probably tough as he is essentially the same guy as Coleman. I would take both in a heart beat, but don't think he comes here. But I could still see an impact wing jumping on board.
