Sam Burns should be the rightful winner of the 2026 US Open

In general, these guys improving their lie by mashing down grass is an issue. So the downside is this seems like selective enforcement, but this is an area I'd like to see more penalties dished out.

Honestly, I do think dbag wyndam is a big reason for this one. They are looking for it and should be

They assessed a two stroke penalty.
Wrong and unfair

Rules official explaining now. Intent is irrelevant.
He clearly improved his backswing by walking on the grass directly in his swing path.

Which it is mashed to holy hell. That is hard to question

THAT is unnatural. What Bryson did, whether intentional or not, was consistent with every single time he addresses a golf ball.

It is not unnatural to take multiple practice swings in the rough to see how your club will react. You'll notice you took practice swings in different spots of the rough not next to his ball.
Every single time he address the ball he doesn't step on the grass behind the ball.
Enrico Pallazzo said:
Wyndham's chip is tougher because there wasn't a great camera angle behind to see how close he got and how much it helped. But this one feels like a no-brainer.

The very beginning when gets to the ball and the very end are the worst of it. As cerebral as Bryson is I find it hard to believe there wasn't at least a little intent behind it. He stomps pretty good right when he gets there and then again when he finally goes to address it.
Idk if it gets called on anyone but him or Reed but that's another argument.
