My brother and I are going for the first time. We'll be in Munich for about 6 days and plan to spend about 3.5 days at die Wiesn. We didn't make any table reservations, but from what I've read, we should be able to find some seats since there's only 2 of us. I'm sure that'll depend on the days of the week. We are there through Italian Weekend and our plan is for Thursday evening, Friday, Sunday, and Tuesday. The day I'm most concerned about is Friday.

We are looking at going next year.

Interested in info on getting traditional garb; lederhosen and Dirndl. Are there any recommended places to purchase something ahead of time that is better quality?

There is decent quality stuff on Amazon. Target the $100 price range and not the cheaper ones. After all, it's a costume for a beer fest.

Other option is to have something made - there are shops in the us and Germany that will custom make for your dimensions. Expect a few hundred or more on the cost side.

We reviewed both and went the Amazon route before arriving. We looked great and fit right in. Ran into a handful of people with the same lederhosen (shirt was different) - which was a laugh and usually led to a cheers and chug.

You might not like the answer but personally I'd buy when you get there, cause they can size you properly and help make sure everything fits right.

My wife researched and ordered a dirndle from Amazon that is considered legit. Then she knew ahead of time if it fit. She also reserved one at a rental in Munich. She liked the one she bought better and didn't take the rental. Hers was slightly more ornate.

I bought after I arrived. I found a department store that is only Bavarian clothes. https://www.daller-tracht.de/

It wasn't cheap and I bought in the lowest tier. It was still 290 euros for the lederhosen plus the same for a vest. Add a couple of shirts and the long socks and it was pricey. I brought my own leather boots. Plain white sneakers are also acceptable with the appropriate socks.

Worth every damn penny. It was a blast. My hands were sore from operating the buttons, and you want to practice disrobing to piss because those button holes take a while to break in!

If you can swing it, it's part of the experience to buy in Munich. Basic but real lederhosen are worth it if you think you will return or will wear them to stateside if festivals.

We went for the first time this year and I'm happy to answer questions!

Thank you for the link. I found a place on Reddit that looks pretty good as well. A good bit cheaper, but also probably lesser quality by the looks of it. Need to decide how much I want to budget.

I'm sure they probably added 33% to the prices during Oktoberfest.

Either way, you're doing it right planning to do it right! I'm already jealous because I had a blast and wish I had another day to meander through more tents and areas.

There's probably much better deals the further away you go from the grounds too.

How many days do you think is a good amount of time to budget?

The festival itself, 2 is plenty. We did 4:30pm - close on day 1 and 7pm - close on day 2. If we'd started day two at noon I probably could have scratched all itches.

One day can cover it all if you are pressed for time. We took our time to never rush anywhere, but in hindsight I wish we'd roamed more in the fair area.

My brother and I went for the first time this year and had an absolute blast. I found lederhosen on Facebook Marketplace for $50 that fit well. I used shirts, socks and leather boots I already owned and bought at hat at Oktoberfest. My brother bought from somewhere online and paid $350 for lederhosen, shirt, hat, socks and shoes. If going again, I'd likely wait and purchase or rent locally in Munich. The sizing is weird due to how they fit, so purchasing online is kind of a crap shoot.

We were there open to close on a Friday and half days on a Sunday and a Tuesday. No reservations but managed to make it into 10 different tents. After about 5pm, you have to pretty much pick a tent and plan to stay there the rest of the night.

We stayed at the Courtyard Marriott City Center and the location was great. 1 or 2 blocks south of the main train station. About 10-minute walk West to Oktoberfest and 10-15-minute walk East to Marienplatz. We booked it about 9 months ahead of time at a very reasonable rate.
