Bring back Cora.

Nah. He was a drunk *******. Blum might have to kick his ass again.

Hang on what now?

This was during Harvey. People on the bus were trying to contact their families to check on them. Cora was drunk, blasting music. Blum asked him to turn it down. Then it got heated, and Cora was freaking out. He was convinced Blum was after his job. Apparently, AJ almost fired Cora, and Blum was very close to beating his ass, but it didn't get physical.

Barring some ridiculous trade offer, Yordan isn't going anywhere. MVP, team-friendly deal, yadda yadda. Not happening since no one's going to offer the farm for a DH.

Hunter couldn't go 1 inning when it mattered the most this season. Big disappointment and makes me ready to move on from him.

The team friendly deal also adds to his trade value.

Yes, that value goes both ways. I'll defer to others re: how many top 100 prospects we could get in hypothetical trades for him, but I don't see Crane blowing it up anyway.

I'm not sure there's a right or wrong way to go from here. I do think there is enough talent in areas that if you can hire an elite GM and staff that you could potentially put together another division winning team that is much better than the one we saw this season.

Saying that, if it's going to be micky mouse hires and Crane and Bagwell are still the ones in charge then we might as well trade Yordan and start loading up the farm and hopefully those two guys will be out of the picture by the time the farm guys grow up.

There absolutely is a wrong way. It's hiring old-school baseball guys who agree with Bagwell and Dusty on the majority of things. Then spending bad money on old guys, thinking we're still going to compete with the roster we have. That is 100% wrong.

I would also argue that trading Yordan is wrong too. I can see an argument as to why; I just don't think completely blowing up the team is the right thing to do. I don't want another 3 years of 100 losses.

GM is the first piece. In a currently dysfunctional front office, I hope Crane starts here and then let the GM make that hire for manager and coaches.

Too lazy to read through the thread. Has anyone made the joke of renaming it the 2026-2028 Offseason Thread?

I'd bring back Machete as a coach or at least development/strategery idea guy.

But (and I'm punting to someone else), I think we need to get back to defense, aka pitching, basics. As I remember, we used to have quality starts ALL the time in 2018-2024/5. I cannot remember a time where we had A quality start this season (stat guy?)

I think getting way better pitching allows for more 'mediocrity' on offence; we can win those 4-2 games because we go into the 6th or 7th with 1-2 run lead. Or we can hold that lead.

I'm also of the camp of dumping everyone and doing the Moneyball thing: same production for cheaper price. Realize EVERYONE is trying to do that, but I also feel the international bit was where we found the gems in the rough and signed cheap, back in the day.

I also think we need a manager that can light a fire under some people. Don't be afraid to bust someone down to AAA if they start stinking it up. One thing to have off-days/weeks; another to just 'go through the motions' and collect a check. Esentially keep the mentality that we're here to win and compete at the ALCS/WS level, not just the WC/division winner level.

I just meant in more vanilla terms of blowing it up vs trying for another run. Obviously there's a multitude of things you could do wrong starting with bringing Joe back. I wasn't talking about all that.

If Crane and Bagwell stay in charge and refuse to take a back seat to a new GM and Staff then we should just go ahead and plan for the future. If we can hire an elite GM and staff and get out of their way then lets keep it going with Yordan and Pena.

Those are both vastly different approaches, both of which I would be okay with given the circumstances laid out.

I wasn't saying the "Astros could do no wrong" Are you kidding me? This franchise is a train wreck right now.

They need to formally announce they're looking for a new manager, surely. Unless Bagwell is going to pull a Roger Dorn on us.

The problem with possibly trading guys like Yordan is who will oversee that return? If Bagwell has any say at all this team is F'd. They've gotten significantly worse every year since he became special advisor.

I think Crane needs to meet with him and simply say we're going in a different direction. To leave him hanging is lame and classless

I am an "old". I've been with this franchise since 1962. I watched my first professional baseball in old Buff Stadium.

I don't know that I've the time left for a complete re-build. How about something mid-range? Not necessarily for 2027 but not 2037 either.

Yeah only the late 70s for me, but there is a feeling of "will I be in a wheelchair?" for the next playoff game if we try a total systemic rebuild and it doesn't go well.

The Astros total gutting post 1990 netted a lot of fun, but the one that brought about the dynasty was an incredible amount of good luck and planning involved. Not sure that happens again so soon.

Caller on 790 just said since Bagwell wants to meddle in everything, we should make him GM and manager so he can really take the heat for his terrible decisions.

One day in and we're already peak offseason

There is something to be said for making people wear the consequences of their decisions. "Senior Advisors" rarely take the heat for bad choices they encouraged (looking at you Ausmus).

We need to play a round-robin where everyone picks the one Astro former player (preferably still alive) you would love to see be the manager and the one you would hate the most (excluding Bagwell / Ausmus)

Does the pick have to be realistic.

If not, I want Blummer to be the manager. If you want something more realistic, how about Alan Ashby?

And the one I would hate the most would be Scott Servais.

Crane should shake it up and go old school for the senior advisor role:

Want: Maldonado (dead serious… players love him and he's very sharp. Fiery personality. Polar opposite of Joe. He will be a manager in the near future.)

Don't want: Servais

Not saying Maldy would be my first choice. But if I had to choose within those parameters, it may be him.

Realistic picks are permitted, but discouraged.

Want: Robinson Chirinos. I wish he had a bit more experience (in the Os org), but he checks a lot of boxes. Also, is it bad that I'd take Beltran too. He's probably going to end up as the Mets manager soon, but I think he's going to be good.

Don't want: Lance Berkman. He was pretty bad at his college stops. Doesn't seem like he has the right mindset to be a great manager.

Brantley would be another good one, but he sounds very happy coaching his kid's little league team.

I mean we're at 104 posts in 8 hours. It took them 6 months and 5 days to get to 8,400. We're already 1.2% of the way there.
