The lack of caring about opponents' stealing bases is my #1 topic of hate. Because when you don't even try to hold them on or throw them out, is it any different than a outfielder being lazy and letting a guy turn a single into a double?

If the next manager doesn't turn Pena, Cam, and Spence (assuming he's on the roster) loose on the basepaths, I will be just as pissed as I was this year. How any coach watch Cam leg out a triple and not thing he should have 25-30 steals a year, I'll never know.

I cannot imagine an MLB manager telling his pitchers to not try to throw guys out. Yanier didn't have a great caught stealing under Dusty, albeit it was a small sample, and Vasquez the last 5 years of his career doesn't have a great caught stealing %s. I'd also like to know how quick our entire pitching staff is to home and how that compares to the league.

Some of this can be on Espada, but I personally think the majority of the reason we were so bad at CS this year is personnel related.

As you have already seen in my posts, I agree about the stolen base issue.

It had to have been mandated to not worry about runners. Our pitchers don't even look over much less use a slide step, etc. Catchers had next to no chance at throwing guys out on our team. Who knows if they are any good or not because our pitchers never gave them a chance.

Pena and Cam should have the green light to steal every time. If they are on first -- they should take second. Hell, I'd be ok with Altuve trying to swipe an additional bag every once in awhile. He only had 5 last year, but had 22 in 2024. All the guys have career stolen base success percentages over 76%.

To put that in perspective -- Carlos Beltran has the best success rate ever with about 87% for 300+ attempts. Rickey Henderson's success percentage was about 81%.

A big part of defending against base stealing comes from the pitcher. Ours over the last 2-3 years have shown complete indifference to holding runners and it makes the catcher's job nearly impossible. I don't think we told our pitchers not to hold runners, but I doubt we put much pressure on them to try to hold them on either.

So in reading about these new hires I kept seeing it mentioned that they were former Driveline Baseball employees. I had no idea what Driveline was so I went and looked them up.

Driveline Baseball is the premier data-driven baseball player development organization in the world. We train players through state-of-the-art motion capture assessments, physical therapy evaluations, and specialized assessment-retest based pitching, hitting and high performance coaching.

We also provide software, hardware and physical solutions for both in-person and remote training as well as deploy a variety of certifications and educational materials distilling proprietary internal research to the general industry.

  • Effects of mound position on kinematics and kinetics during a baseball pitch
  • Spatiotemporal Differences in Ground Reaction Force Profiles between Elite and Sub-Elite Baseball Pitchers
  • Multilevel Regression Modeling vs. Repeated Measures Analysis of Variance for Handling Repeated Measures Biomechanics Data
  • Associations between Functional Movement Screen Results and Corresponding Joint Kinematics and Kinetics during the Pitching Motion
  • Differences in kinematics, arm stress, and arm laxity controlling for velocity variation in the spread of weighted ball running throws
  • Relationships between Clinically Assessed Thoracic Spine Range of Motion and Trunk Mechanics during the Pitching Motion
  • Mechanical Differences between Crow-Hop Throwing and Regular Pitching in Experienced Baseball Pitchers

Adding guys with this kinda background seems like a very positive development!

I'm in total agreement that lack of stolen bases was a huge part of the lackluster offense under Espada. I would also add the lack of hit and runs, lack of bunting, which would stress opposing teams defensively was also frustrating. Going station to station and hoping for three run homers obviously is not relative to winning championships. Astros may have been near the top in total home runs but we finished .500. Hope the new manager is aggressive offensively.

I'm agnostic on Driveline. Them, Tread, and a few other outlets are well known in using analytics to chase velo, improve spin, and maximize pitching arsenals while also doing likewise for hitting to optimize swings, swing decisions, and physical training too.

There's pros & cons. But keep in mind that a bunch of Driveline employees were hired by the Red Sox this past offseason and it resulted in a virtual mutiny from the players. They parted ways back in June.

10/23 2022 CELEBRATE AGAIN! Houston sweeps the Yankees in the A.L.C.S with a 6-5 triumph in Game 4 to earn a trip to the World Series. A three-run homer by Series MVP Jeremy Pena ties the game in the third but New York's Harrison Bader homers for a 5-4 lead in the sixth. RBI singles by Yordan Alvarez and Alex Bregman plate the decisive runs.

Obviously the WS was better, but having this matchup again and just kicking the spit out of them was so fantastic. Judge with the meek groundout to Pressly to end the series.

I just want it go 7. I am ok with either team winning. I love the way both teams play.

I kind of want the Rays to win for the AL piece of it all, and it would be super fun to see 500 people at their parade.

That was a fun watch. Oh the glory days. BTW, with ABS Altuve wouldn't have K'd in the first inning. Ball was 1-2 inches outside.

Every time I watch an old playoff highlight video, it's Yuli Gurriel I miss the most.
