Great stuff from Morez yesterday. Slow start as Graham Ike kinda bodied him on the glass a couple times early, but settled in and showed really nice touch on floaters. Took 4 threes and hit one. Very active on the defensive end and can see him as a defensive anchor with better perimeter defenders around him.

I thought Nembhard looked like he was too good to be out there, which was good to see. Poulakidis got some good looks from 3 and missed a lot early. Not worried there, we know he's a good shooter.

Sergio got to some good spots and had open looks, just an off shooting night for him. You can tell he needs to adjust to the recovery speed and athleticism of these defenders when he's inside the paint, but really good process from him. 5 assists and just 1 turnover.

I thought Seva was extremely active defensively. He really uses his length well. Was consistently poking balls away from dribblers. Both he and Sergio are going to have to get used to how fouls are called over here. Can't be quite as aggressive. He got to the rim and got fouled often. Also had a really nice spin move on a drive that led to an open layup that he missed because he rushed it. Hopefully he plays in a more difficult league this season and can contribute in future seasons. I think there's something here.

Really promising from Morez. I know it's summer league, but that's all we need to see from him. He can score more than we saw at Michigan. I think we all knew it but game 1 and he's 12/17.

Vet movement finally?

Unless the Mavs want Jovic back, I don't see how they make salaries match.

Jovic 16.2M this year and 3y46 after
Davion Mitchell 12M expiring, but he is their PG.
Bobby Portis 2y31M (14.5M this year)

Only players they could actually trade to bring in Klay. I can't see them moving Portis or Mitchell.

Jovic looked really promising a couple years ago, but he's super injury prone with back issues. I wouldn't want to be on the hook for his salary at all.

Yeah I imagine it would be for Jovic plus some type of draft compensation.

That's basically the stage of the franchise life cycle the Mavs are in right now. Will need to take on more salary or longer contracts in order to acquire draft capital.

The problem is they don't have draft compensation they can trade.



Currently can trade:

2nd round pick in 2031
2029 1st (can only swap)
2032 1st (can only swap)

If they make the playoffs this year, they can then swap their 2028 1st and outright trade their 2029 1st. But they have to make the playoffs first. Their 2027 1st is owed to Charlotte, but top 14 protected due to the Rozier trade.

Mavs should absolutely be acquiring future swaps and acquiring any 2nd round picks they can, especially if it's for Klay, who won't be on the team after this season.

Yeah, I just don't know if I see the Heat using their last available draft capital to move a 23yo Jovic for a 36yo Klay, even though Jovic may never play 50 games in a season.

That 29 swap would essentially be the better of the Lakers or Heat pick.

That 32 swap should be super Juicy. I would really want that one.

Watching de Larrea and I really like his feel for the game. He 1000% has to get stronger though. Same with Ishchenko

The playmaking with Larry is real. It's summer league but seeing him be the driver of the offense is great.

Really good experience for Larry and Seva to go against that physical and athletic Grizzlies group.

You can see those guys being really nice pieces in 2-3 years as they develop physically. They have plenty of skill and basketball IQ, just need to get accustomed to the athleticism and physicality of the athletes here.

This was the best of the two. Hell of a pass by ishchenko. He can really play.

Watching Sergio pass is like watching Luka pass. He's just having fun with no looks and cross court skips and full length hit aheads...

The play making is stunning quite honestly. I expected some level of play making because quite honestly I just expect more skill coming from Europe, but he's got down right elite play making. He just has that innate ability to know where he's at and know his surroundings on the court, and the slow things down in that moment. Without a doubt he'd be my backup PG right now.

The scoring will come in time as he matures physically and plays with better players around him.
