Don't disagree. I'd be okay with a loss to Indiana or Jazz just because it's the NBA and S happens, but yeah we need to be beating the Kings, Jazz and Brooklyn imo if we are to be taken serious as a potential top six seed contender.

ETA: I'd really like to see us blowout the Kings and Brooklyn so we can get a better look at guys like Morez, Biberovic (hopefully), Cisse and Sasser/Walter Clayton Jr. I think we all know that Coop, Kyrie, PJ and Gafford more or less, can get the job done. Now I want to see against better matchup can some of the second string guys also get it done when Cooper, Kyrie etc. aren't on the floor.

I want more Morez also, but I think he's still on a minutes restriction. He just doesn't look quite like he did in college in terms of athleticism/explosiveness. He seems hesitant to "go" at times. Could be being a rookie in your first few games, but typically when you have a nagging leg injury you know you can't go by or over anybody like you used to so it impacts other parts of your game. He's only been between 12 and 18 minutes every game.

But agree we should be looking at multiple games this week where Coop, Kyrie, Zacch, and Gaff aren't playing more than 25 minutes. Really need to start being careful with Gaff. He's been so good so far and he has a tendency to get injured. Already rolled his ankle pretty good in the Houston game, no idea how he came back in that one, let alone continue to be awesome.

Looks like we'll get our wish of a lot more WCJ and Sasser.

Got no issue with it. We need to be able to win these games without Kyrie.

Literally just 3 years ago.

And don't look at what Luka is doing this year.

If Santi and Biberovic didn't play tonight because we could get them an extra game of rest because it's the Kings, I'm going to be really pissed off.

This is what happens when you have absolutely no shooting on the court.

Just an awful, awful loss. And that one starts with Cooper. He was horrendous tonight, and it permeated throughout the team. Just brick after brick and bad shot after bad shot. Hopefully a good learning experience that you better show up every night when you're the guy who's getting patted on the back.

The 3 pt shooting was the story. 3-28 if you take away Clayton Jr who was 4-5. Kings made 12 more 3s. Impossible to make up for that.

Pretty disappointed with Dusty's unwillingness to just try stuff tonight. Zacch, Naji, PJ, Flagg, Christie, and Sasser were all abominable tonight.

Morez and Gaff were our two best players tonight. We can't get them on the court at the same time? Is it because there wouldn't be enough shooting? There wasn't shooting anyways... Is it because Morez is limited still? Is it because he hates Cisse and won't play him when it's time for those two to come out?

We can't get just a few minutes of Cisse's energy before garbage time? What about Lawal? We needed some kind of spark that just never came because we kept rolling out the same players who clearly didn't have it.

Need to get Larry healthy because the offense is going to look really rough on these Kyrie rest nights.

Disappointed is a great way to put it. Disappointed in Dusty, Coop, and the rest of the squad. Extremely disappointing in the effort. Felt like we had absolutely no plan for a game without Kyrie, which I find kinda unacceptable given that we know we are going to be without him for at least a dozen or so games this year. And yes once again missing Larry, Santi and Biberovic (and a normal Max Christie) absolutely kills you from a shooting perspective. No one is arguing that. But it feels like we should still have enough to get through that one, no? Maybe we don't idk.

Either way, this team is in desperate need of a two-guard and idk how they get one that can actually be a threat.

We can dream. He's about as good a fit as we'll find without paying superstar type numbers. I just don't see Orlando letting him go with their injuries, and on top of that I'm not sure it would be smart for us to give up what it might take to get him.

Orlando's cap situation is awful and they didn't extend him. They have 102% of the cap tied into Paolo, Franz, Wendell, Suggs, and Bane. They have 28M in 1st apron space, but with only 8 players on the roster. This year they are over the 1st apron by 10M and paying a 32M tax bill for that team.

Orlando can't afford to let him go from a basketball perspective, but also can't afford to keep him from an apron perspective. How much tax are they going to pay every year for a 40-45 win team?

I'm mostly just memeing. He's from north Texas, so I got to meet him years ago and am just a fan of the kid.

I assume they would try to jettison some of the other guys before trading him. I could be way off, but that was my feeling.

Someone post this fake trade on Reddit. Max+Santi+Naji for Stirtz, Suggs, and Denver's first sounds nice. Suggs is overpaid, but his contract is declining at least.

Lol Magic get off Suggs and get 3 rotation players without giving any good picks. That's crazy. Suggs is a borderline negative asset.

Mavs need Aldama, he'd have been our best offensive player last night. He should not be traded.

I'm all for trading Max and Naji and PJ. That's addition by subtraction.

Hate saying it about Naji, hopefully he just needs time to recover from his second bout with the plague.
Tksymm7

I agree with Aldama. I think when we get him on the floor we're going to see that he's borderline irreplaceable in terms of skill set.

Also agree on Max, Naji and PJ. PJ probably being the last out of that group as I think he's been good this year, but again his skill set is replaceable imo.

For Naji I am afraid he doesn't fit this team at all anymore....and we just gave him a contract. He's a terrible shooter so you can't really play him with Kyrie, Cooper etc. so where he needs to shine is leading a second unit. And that's why I was so disappointed last night. Last night was a game for Naji to take over being point forward and try to distribute the ball and get down hill, but he was a non-factor in every single facet.
Vessel

PJ would be first on my list because he probably has the highest perceived value but he's actually the worst of the group. PJ's on-off is abysmal this year and the advanced stuff hasn't liked him since he played with Luka.

Max' poor performance is at least understandable in that he just isn't making shots right now. His defense has been passable.

Naji's performance last night is also understandable since he apparently recently went to a children's daycare which was infested with hand-foot-mouth kids.

But in all seriousness, by basically every metric, PJ is our worst defensive player this year. And in some metrics he's our worst offensive player.

He's competing with Max for worst offensive player, but we know Max will start making shots eventually.

For someone that hasn't watched the Mavs as much as y'all, why the drop?

Well the advanced stuff said the same about him last year. And basically the same about the year before after Luka got hurt and traded. So there really isn't a drop, it's a continuation of 2 years of data. Particularly on defense. He isn't shooting well to start this year either, but he's much closer to his career average than Max is, so there isn't a lot of room for positive regression.

Maybe the bigger offensive load has hurt his defense in recent years. He was dealing with personal stuff last year, I think the loss of his mom, but not sure on that. Also kept rolling his ankle last season, including on a loose ball in shootaround. That points to some level of incoordination, to me.

He's not nearly as skilled a player as he is in people's heads lol. If he dribbles in traffic he's losing the ball. He gets stripped easily and doesn't really receive passes in traffic well. He just seems relatively uncoordinated compared to his peers. He's only had a few good 3PT shooting years and even then it's only been slightly above league average. He's had one positive TS season and most seasons are well below average.

He was the perfect dirty-work player to add to the 23-24 team, but he's just not nearly skilled enough to have the role he has had the past 2 years.

Max already ruled out for tomorrow. Wonder if it's a thing he's been dealing with or if they need him to take a night off to get his mind right.
