What's really crazy is we didn't even play that well. Turned it over way too much, got out rebounded bigly and lost second chance points bigly…

Kyrie, Coop, and league average 3 point shooting carried us across the line. We didn't have 2 of those things last year lol.

And Dusty continues to be a complete demon. Stops playing Max when it isn't working… Gives Sasser a chance and pulls the plug early when it's clear it isn't working… Kept with Caleb when it was working… The way he defended Amen and Eason… What a coach.

Flagg is so much easier to cheer for than Luka.

It was never hard for us to cheer for Luka

It was never hard for us to cheer for Luka

Not hard for the Rockets fans to cheer for Harden, Warriors fans to cheer for Draymond, or OKC fans to cheer for SGA.

Flagg is a delight, though.

Dusty seems like the right hire in early returns. Also, healthy Kyrie unlocks so much with the team.

So many teams are going smaller - like Minnesota trading Randle/Naz to get Ball or the Spurs starting 4 guards - that I think a lot of teams might struggle against the Mavs being able to play Kyrie+forwards and centers. And Naji didn't even play, but he's another guy that can defend multiple positions with a strength/size advantage.

May seems like the right guy to coach that type of lineup after winning with Mara/Rez/Yaxel last year.
Vessel

I'd argue the team isn't even playing anybody down a position, it's just a team with a ton of positional size.

We haven't seen any Rez at the 4 that I can remember. Coop is always on the floor with at least one other true ball handler. We've seen some PJ at the 5 lineups. Zacch is a 2/3 who happens to be 6'10".

In my opinion, we haven't seen any lineup chicanery yet. This was just Masai making sure there is positional size across the board.

Rocket fans already using injuries as an excuse. I can see OKC fans having a point, but the Rockets were pretty healthy.

I know they were missing 1 starter, but Capela killed us on rebounding anyway.
Vessel

Sengun, Adams, and Sheppard out. They still had their number 1 and their numbers 3 through 7. They did fine on the boards without Adams

Who cares though. We are missing guys too and have a whole new team. Vibes are high and there's nothing that can bring us down right now.

This team is a good 2-guard from being a legit top 6 contender in the West, currently.

I would relegate Christie to the shadow realm for the time being, and go with Risacher for now. When healthy and fit, I would seriously give Bieberovic some run in that spot. ALL we need there is a willing defender and a guy to play with a green light and hit 37-40% from three. That is literally it and Bieberovic fits that bill in theory. Obviously I don't want him playing 25-30 minutes a night, but I want to see how his skillset fits with the first unit.
Vessel
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah Max is on thin ice right now. I like Risacher's current role off the bench but still getting most of the minutes. Biberovic starting there is a good shout.

I wonder if Caleb hasn't earned a start there as well. Play him while his shot is hot and he's the best POA defender on the team. He's much more of a connector than Max as well.

Would also give Caleb some run there if he's going to hit from the corner.

The 2 spot already belongs to Risarcher; at least nominally. Dusty has closed each of the last 2 games with Risarcher+4 starters. He got almost 10 more min of PT last night compared to Christie too. So it's basically already happened everywhere other than at tip off.

What a breathe of fresh air he's been too. I heard someone say he plays like if Josh Green was 6'10 (which is a really valuable player).

I feel like Kris Dunn is the right guy there. Some secondary playmaking, hit open threes and take on the POA.

Agree on all of this. The 2 spot is definitely Risacher in terms of minutes, but as Vessel said I like the role they have him in now. He gets to play with both cooper and kyrie, but also gets to be a guy on the second unit. Khris Dunn is a good shout as well as the ideal fit for that spot.

The Acuff stuff was so predictable. He's popped off in two games and his team lost both games to below average to bad teams.

Even after his two nuclear offensive games, the analytics say he's one of the worst players in the league. He has the lowest amount of potential assists based on time of possession or usage (I forget the exact wording) in league history. The defensive montages are just as bad, if not worse, than the college clips.

The Kings have lost every preseason and regular season game so far, he has decent teammates who are playing the worst basketball of their respective careers, and they all clearly hate playing with him.

I think the Kings have the least amount of talent in the league. Significantly worse than New Orleans. I would rather build a team around Milwaukee's core of Burries, Herro, Ware, Rollins, Kasparas, Jacquez, and Dairy Bird.

Sabonis is physical and can rebound, but his defense is awful and he has no range. LaVine is like Acuff. No defense, hollow, volume offense. Precious is a major disappointment that played the last two years on vet mins. Keegan Murray has one of the worst contracts in the NBA. How would you like to pay 22% more than PJ Washington to a guy that is worse at every single basketball skill than PJ Washington? They should have traded Malik Monk two years ago, instead they are paying him 42M for the next two years to play 12mpg and score 4 points. For every teammate that can do something (Sabonis rebound, LaVine shoot) they are insanely flawed at something else (basically everything else.)

I'm sure everyone here agrees. Kyrie is a perfect fit for a lot of teams but the Mavs aren't trying to be bad. It's win time.

Trust me, I'm not making a pro-SAC argument and I definitely don't think they have a future to look forward to.

But they do have some obviously talented players (contracts aside) and those players are all playing their worst ball of their careers so far, other than maybe Sabonis, who is rumored to hate his life because of Acuff.

This is getting off topic but Murray is a way better defender than PJ and it's not particularly close (again, contracts aside). This is also more debatable/subjective, but I think Murray is a better shooter who has just been in a far worse context or injured. Murray still has a better career 3PT%. Keegan better career eFG% and TS%. Impact metrics have Keegan as a comfortably better player, which I agree with.
Vessel

And even still, the advanced data says Acuff is the worst player on his team.

Sabonis is kind of a malcontent. He hated playing with Fox, he hated inbetween Fox and Acuff, and hates Acuff. Not sure what would make him happy, but I might feel the same way if I played in Sacramento after playing in OKC and Indiana. Also they dont want to extend him the max, which he wants. But realistically no one gives him the max.

PJ's defense was also huge in getting the Mavs to the Finals. I think Murray is really overrated defensively and is inconsistent. Murray shot .420/.227 last year, which was obviously before Acuff. This year as .294/.000 before his injury.

Anyway, I think all the players they have are just hugely flawed and there isn't a single team in the NBA I would rather have the core of less than Sacramento.

Edit: Mike Brown's son trashing Sabonis for being a malcontent like I said above

Correct, and the point is all their flaws look much more pronounced with Acuff on the court.

This is the only exciting team in the area now. It's funny because I thought the Cowboys would be good and the Mavs would be bad.

I'm very optimistic based on the tiny sample size we have so far, but definitely not counting my chickens yet. I hope we can be that 5-8 range in the west, but we could also just be one injury away from being sub .500 at season's end.

Here is the next 5 games:

Not going to lie, it would be pretty disappointing if we weren't 8-3 or better after this stretch. BKN, SAC, and Utah are plain bad and Halliburton will be out for Indiana and possibly Zubac.

Good week to see how this team handles success/praise and if they're truly ready to assert themselves as a playoff team.

Trading Kyrie only makes sense if the package is a major overpay. I would rather keep Kyrie and have fun following basketball again than take a mediocre offer that "fits the timeline".
