Also, he's in a position where perception matters… and he knew this.

But otherwise - yes I agree this is otherwise just semi-standard common life drama.

Yeah you can't be doing that with a players sister when you have to maintain a relationship with these guys. On a purely professional level, I am pretty pleased to not have him around anymore. He was constantly screwing up game situations, player names, and really basic stuff that anyone who cares about basketball would not screw up. He had a great voice and was getting better, but I think we can improve here.

I believe this has nothing to do with it being Waters' sister and all to do with it being very public and him being in a role that is easily replaceable

I agree. I don't really understand people making it a big deal that it was Waters sister. She's an adult and they were in a consenting relationship. She is not part of the Spurs organization.

I kinda figured he would lose his job in this day and age.

I think the problem with him being involved with a players sister is that he has access to the team that others don't and he clearly took advantage of that.

Let's just say things between him and Lindy's sister did become an issue, and then there is beef with a player and the play by play guy. What are the Spurs supposed to do in that scenario.

Yes, they are consenting adults, but I would imagine a professional sports team doesn't want to be perceived as a place where their employees/associates/whatever you want to call this guy run around banging players sisters. He's way too old to not understand that concept.

I realize there is history of this already with Tony Parker, but that's a completely different issue. Tony was not easily replaceable and this guy is.

I think if nothing came had come from this and he kept his job, it wouldn't have been a big deal, but I get the Spurs side of things.

Lindy's sister is a well known Native American filmmaker and Tobey is also a Native American obviously working in media. It's not out of the realm of possibility that they knew each other before Waters was even a member of the Spurs

Correct, and Toronto isn't that stupid/desperate, so it's all "on hold", while we wait "weeks".

Basically they have Ballmer's ass. We KNOW he did it. They KNOW he did it. The trick is PROVING it without enough data with the least amount of risk of error - enough guidelines to stave off Ballmer's army of lawyers who will make this worse.

Of course the flip side is they come to some agreement (more than likely) where Ballmer takes a fine/penalty, understanding he's busted and the fights not worth it, and all parties move on and he doesn't become super-hated by the NBA brass more than he is now. But will Ballmer's ego allow that?

I think the league presents the findings next week at the BOG meeting. I think they are prepared for a fight from Ballmer, and will do some negotiated settlement of some sort so that this isn't drawn out by him forever.

I don't see how they could justify not coming down hard, though. If they don't come down hard, the salary cap means nothing. Wemby gets a 5y minimum extension and a $500M deal to sell computers for Dell.

The league also doesn't know what else Pablo has waiting to be fired off. He has let that drip out over the last ten months and I have no doubt he has a show scheduled for after the punishment. Don't forgot, Pablo won the ****ing Pulitzer for this. So if the league doesn't come down hard, and then Pablo immediately launches an episode with the smoking gun about how Ballmer got all this swept under the rug, the NBA looks even more inept. As it is, their white shoes law firm has taken longer than the Warren Commission did to investigate the Kennedy Assassination (my other researching love besides the NBA.)

Yes, but everyone's used their cap space and he won't have bird rights.

So the Spurs could theoretically sign him for for a $5 million deal.

Detroit may have some money available.

I'm not sure who has the MLE left. The Raptors only have like $5 million below the hard cap.

And then next year nobody would have bird rights on his because it takes 3 years to develop bird rides. So a team could use all of their cap space on a 36 or 37-year-old Kawhi Leonard to give him a big contract. The Raptors were about to give him a 2 or 3-year extension.
