I think that's why Castle will eventually be the odd man out. We can't give 75% to 3 players and expect to be legit title contenders over the long term.

I don't think this eventually is coming soon, but like what we are seeing with OKC, that first year having 3 max players on your team really forces you into some tight spots. So probably 3 more years until we really have to face this, but no way all 3 stay together unless Castle takes a deal that looks more like Devin's.


Going to be tough. OKC has their three big players on 25% this year and it will be 35/25/25 next year. Nice to be several years behind to watch and see.

Also, the CBA may change in 2029

Deep down I barely even like to admit it but yeah. Castle gonna be the odd man out eventually unless he just wants to be bros/teammates forever and doesn't care about being the bonafide alpha dawg on a team. Which...dang, i hope that he just wants to hoop with these guys for a long time. Not sure why but Castle's my favorite Spur since TD. He's just got that dawg in him.

Castle is going to be the odd man out if he doesn't learn how to be a knock down 3pt shooter and/or learn how to handle the ball better.

He's a SG/SF getting used as a PG half the time. He's a really good player that needs more skills.

38% on C&S threes post ASB including playoffs.

Not sure the pull up will ever happen but that's a big step in the right direction

Short of a massive shooting reversion, you must find a way to keep Castle. He's going to be so special, is ahead off schedule and has that extra Manu competitiveness that can't be taught.

Nobody else on the squad replicates his point of attack defense or his competitiveness.

I really hope we find a way to keep him. Paying 75% for 3 players is tough but nobody will have a better top 3 if they stay on current trajectory .With good drafting and the aged vets trying a win a championship hopefully we can still fill out a quality bench.

I also think some of these deep teams are going to have the same problem so you want continue to see the depth we have recently with OKC and Spurs being do ahead of schedule.

Yeah it almost had to be.

He signed with the Bucks at age 25 for the Vet Min

I'm the three seasons before that, he put up 16/2/3 on 42/38/83 and shot 39% the year before getting the min.

Last year he put up 8/1/1 on 39/36 and got 4/64? Basically a 6/70 contract, which would have made somewhat more sense

Yeah, they couldn't afford to give him more than the vet min two years ago or last year. They went all in on Dame and needed shooting.

So he took the vet min with the promise that he would get a big contract in the future.

Exactly same thing Minnesota did with Joe Smith way back in the day. Lost 5 first round picks, later dropped to 3.

Since it is a Vet Min, he will count about 2.5M towards the cap/lux tax.

There is one spot left.

Unless Barnes took a little less than the 8M, we can only afford a rookie or maybe 1st year min for that last spot if we sign them now.

I think there is a provision where you can only have 2 two-ways if you have 14 player and 3 if you have 15. IDK, that minutia is confusing and I dont care enough about it.

We currently have three two-ways in Emmanuel Miller, Maliq Brown, and JaKobi Gillespie.

Harrison Ingram and DJG are RFAs. I hope we sign DJG for that last spot on a min.

I'll be both shocked and disappointed if they don't.

With all the time and money they spent on this, and the message that HAS to be sent, they'd better put the hammer down on Ballmer and not be afraid of his lawyers. And honestly he'd be wise just to take it and move on. Not worth the massive PR hit.

Same. Hopefully he can get a training camp invite. He'd be a great guy to keep in Austin. Getting the Korean fans on the Spurs side would be a boon from a business perspective. Koreans are already going crazy with him just being on the summer league team.
