I don't think Ingram will be a good fit but I'd give 4 seconds to make that trade. Upgrade Keldon to a guy that has been an All-Star and shoots better, upgrade Collins to Theis, and get off both their contracts? I'm sold.
I generally agree with this:

Quote:

The unlimited resources should come with tepid cautiousness at the deadline, however. The Spurs are in the early to middle stage of learning which players fit around Wembanyama and should not be eager to offer their draft assets.

The big-picture approach should call for San Antonio to use the remaining regular-season games (and perhaps the play-in) to evaluate the roster and take a more aggressive approach this summer.
Like you say, we have second round picks to burn so if we can upgrade the roster with those, then great.

Upgrade roster and dump bad salary. Collins and Keldon represent 36M in cap space next year, or 23% of the cap.

And I don't expect us to offer Ingram a max deal he wants (he wants a 4y200M like what Paul George got) but I could see if offering him something more reasonable. The Nets are the only team with max cap space and they aren't spending it on Ingram. We may do a 1y 25-30% deal overpay that gives us a trade chip ending contract AND keeps up with greater than max cap space for the 26 free agency period (DeAaron Fox and Luka.) But Ingram could also be S&T to a team for a 1st. That Chicago pick we own is from S&T DeMar to them. We have their 2nd rounder this year, too from the same deal.

I don't know that Ingram would fit, because he is ball dominant and loves midrange, but he does create for himself and others, and we dont have a lot of players that can do that. Plus he would instantly be our 2nd best shooter after Barnes.

He isn't my ideal player, but he would fit well.

He can get the 35% supermax ONLY if he stays in Sacramento and makes All-NBA this year. Othewise, he can only get the 30% max, which is more reasonable for him.

The catch is he is a Rich Paul client.

I think a deal would be something like:

Devin+Tre+Branham + Chi 25 pick, SA 25 pick, CHA 25 pick. SA 27 pick, SA 29 pick, return Kings 31 swap

for

Fox + Heurter

That saves them 10M this year and 23M next year and gives them almost 40M in cap space in 26 with the 25 pick, Sabonis, Monk, Devin, Carter, Murray, and Ellis on the books.

They keep their pick if it is top 12, so they can tank and get into the lottery and assure that like Dallas did a couple years ago.

Not that different from my idea from an outgoing standpoint, but it depends what picks they are. Sacramento isn't dealing with us without getting their 2031 swap back.

I would be royally pissed if my return on Fox was Collin Sexton, John Collins, and 2 firsts if I was a Kings fan.

I think it has to be closer to a Donovan Mitchell trade (Sexton, Lauri, 5 firsts)

Mitchell now? Yeah, I agree. Mitchell when he was in Utah? I don't think he was considered a good defender and was more of a undersized combo. Had two seasons of about 26/5/4. Never AllNBA. Fox has been All NBA and is more of a pure PG. Dono was the better shooter. Dono is better right now, but I don't think he was when he was in Utah.

And TheMarcus' baby mama was from San Antonio.

DeAaron Fox's wife is from Stone Oak and played basketball at Lady Bird HS. Their son is about to turn 2yo.

Fox went to CyLakes on the West side of Houston.

Not sure if Cam Johnson has a thing for big, Latina women, but, if the spurs do make a deal for Fox, they'd have to drain the rest of their trade chips to bring him to SA, unfortunately

I played around with that Bobby Marks trade idea from earlier today and expanded it.

Spurs now:

Wemby/Lyles/Bassey
Barnes/Sochan/Mamu
Ingram/Julian
Castle/Huerter
Fox/Paul/Wesley

I put Castle as a starter because he seems to play better there. I think you could also do a Fox/Paul back court with Sochan and Barnes starting and Castle/Ingram/Lyles coming off the bench, too.

Tons more passing and rim pressure on the team. Marginally more shooting. A lot more shooting if Huerter remembers how to shoot.

Depends on what CP3 wants. If we trade for Fox and CP3 doesn't want to back up, then we honor that with him. Possible they would take CP3, but I think they would start Monk over him.

Orlando might be a team he could fit on well that is good. The Lakers would love him for their team, but they dont have anyone we would accept. Could send him back to the Clippers for PJ Tucker's rotting corpse.

What is nice is we don't have to do anything. We can lowball their asses and piss them off. They try to shop Fox around to other teams, but the other teams don't want to spent a lot because they know 1. Fox wants to play with Wemby and 2. Spurs have max cap space with their entire core under contract when Fox is a FA. Plus Rich Paul is his agent and Rich will actively discourage other teams from trading for him.

This may be a little like when we were shopping Kawhi. Teams knew he would walk to LA a year later, so we couldn't get the offers we wanted from anyone.

Hawks implosion is the best possible news that could happen for the Spurs.

Trading for Fox is complicated, because ideally, you'd want some sort of guarantee he sticks around beyond the whole "he likes Texas and his wife is from San Antonio" angle.

If Fox is indeed available and wants to come to San Antonio, you just stay in contact with them with your offer and wait for them to take it. If they don't like our offer, as mentioned, nothing wrong with sitting on our assets and waiting for him to be a free agent and then signing him if he wants to be here so bad.

Any trade would likely come with a extension agreement that would be signed this off-season adding 4 years to the current contract. I don't like it, but it's probably a 30% deal. I think he's a 25-28% player at best, but a slight overpay is ok.

I think he has about 5 good seasons left in him.

I thought earlier todd, they'd get a package of like four pics for him and I think it's probably a good player like the cell two picks and their swap back. And that's a price I'd be happy to pay for him.

Vassell+Jones+Malaki + Charlotte pick + Chicago pick + 27 Spurs pick + Sac Swap returned for Fox+Huerter. They get a young starting player on a declining contract, The Charlotte first is really two good second picks and they get a good pick with Chicago and a not so good pic from us.

If they want more, we just tell them we'll sign him next summer for free.

If they don't trade Fox by next Thursday, they lose a massive amount of value because he will be an ending contract after the trade deadline. And I think Rich Paul is going to tank his trade value for us

Philosophically, I disagree. Wemby is already a top 20 player, an All-Star, and defensive MVP. You want to wait to get him help? WHY???? The Spurs are nearly .500 right now with NO ONE on the team to help this man.

We can't sit on assets forever. We can't make 20 first round picks in 6 years. There aren't enough roster spots. Our own picks are going to become more and more worthless each season.

Wemby strikes me as the type of person who, after enough losing, will absolutely walk or ask to be traded down the road. I wouldn't blame him in the slightest if the Spurs waste his youth. He's a unicorn, you need to make unicorn moves. He's young and he's shown time and again already that he has a bloodlust for winning. Maybe I'm going too far, but I also feel like since he is European, he will have his homes support no matter what jersey he wears. I'm sure he would never WANT to hurt the Spurs, but if I'm Wemby and the Spurs are getting in my way of greatness, I'm out the door.

Forget the future. Spare me the eye rolls, but like LeBron and Kobe and so many greats before him, if he is The One, Wemby will erase so many problems in "the future" that you can afford to take big swings right now. (That wasn't me saying he is on LeBron or Kobe's level, that was me saying that if they expect that from him, you have to treat him like one of those guys).

I would rather get Robin for Wemby Sooner rather than later. But I don't think you give up four picks, especially some of those Atlanta pics Now that Jalen Johnson is out for the season for a player like Fox.

I think the Spurs have all the leverage here because j can threaten to wait until next summer. If Sacramento doesn't trade Fox by Thursday next week. Then he becomes an ending contract and a rental.

I feel like it's a lot like the Leonard situation in that aspect. Every team in the league knows that fox wants to sign in San Antonio or Houston and they also know that the Spurs have Max cap space next year. The difference is that fox is not an MVP candidate like Leonard and I don't think many teams would give up a massive deal for a one-year rental of fox.

I think we are in perfect position to play hardball with Sacramento. Fox is a good fit, but he's also a career 33% shooter so he's not exactly an ideal fit.

I think the Spurs do a package around two firsts plus the swap back and Devin. We aren't just a fox away from being a championship team so we can't give away all our assets and not have any way to fill the other holes on the team. But we do have the leverage in this situation so I think we can get the better half of the deal
