The original story was total BS. The author just got lucky. Analyze this with me
"My girlfriend works in the office of a large dealership where we live."
Unless it has grown a lot in recent years, Big Red is not large.
"She has only been there about a month,...."
This post was dated 1-30-06. If the statement is true, then she first started working there around the end of Dec. 05 or early Jan. 06. The pay for no work happened in the summer of 05. Buzzzzz. BS.
"... and she was dealing with handing out payroll checks."
I've been and currently are an owner of more than one business. I can't imagine hiring someone off the street and letting them hand out the payroll checks. That is true even if you have nothing to hide. And, if one were passing phony paychecks to football players, don't you think he would tend to keep it secret?
"She didn't recognize several of the names,...."
She had only just been hired. I bet she didn't recognize any of the names.
"and asked her boss. Her boos told her that she would take care of them, and that it was no big deal. She thought it was fishy and asked me...."
Why would she think it was fishy if she didn't know who they were? Something about that is fishy alright.
"and even though they had never actually been to work there,"
How would she know if they hadn't been to work? She was just hired.
"they were recieving HUGE!!!! pay checks."
The amount discussed so far were not HUGH!!!!!
"On top of this a player was in buying a car recently, and when she say the finance stuff, he had only paid about 1/100th of the sticker price."
This kills it for me. The new owner of Big Red uncovers dirt done by the previous owner and brings it to the OUAD. Why would he hold back some of the dirt? Why would OU self report and simultaneously cover up? It doesn't make sense.
"Is this legal?"
Well, now, that certainly is a sincere question. Nope, this guy made up crap and got lucky.
