Why is it assumed it's a fan of A&M?

Such a relief to know the 12th Man Board of Trustees thinks racism is bad.
What a joke we're living in these days
It definitely represents some scumbags. There's always a small percentage of people who feel this way, not matter how much we advance as a society. This person just wrote a letter.AgJones said:
Sumlin and his family must be desperate to save his job. This letter real or not doesn't represent the university or the fans. They know it too. This is a disgusting way for Sumlin's to generate sympathy and to some degree job security.
Hopefully A&M shows the courage and fairness by firing him and not cower down under political correctness BS.

As cross posted on the OB:
Can we agree that this does not psychologically look like the "rant" of an angry fan?
If you were p*ssed at the way that Sumlin was coaching and wanted to go to the trouble of letting him know it, wouldn't you level some specific, and likely lengthy, criticism? Like a mention of clock management, conditioning, salary, swag, uniforms, etc? Or plays, particular games or personnel you disagreed with? Or if crazy enough to threaten him to try and run him off, again, wouldn't the letter be specific or more menacing? Isn't the purpose of such a rant against the coach to change his behavior or run him off? I don't think a brief, vague note with a racial epithet and Scooby Doo villian-esque warning that looks like it was scrawled in 10 seconds is what a fan rant would look like, nor that of someone wanting to effect a coaching change. This seems more like a note for the sole purpose of dropping the n-bomb and smearing Aggies as a whole. That extra planning went into concealing the origins of the letter make the intention that much clearer.
And going public with this letter might hurt his marketability and that of other black coaches as schools see how this is playing out, how a single letter from a POS can cause so much of a problem. Those doing the hiring my wonder if it is worth the trouble, negative publicity, etc. over something they had nothing to do with.AgJones said:

honestly, the handwriting and the content screams "female."
No dude who watches football talks like that.Quote:

I hope A&M is going way over the top trying to investigate it, because that is way too shady. I could see an idiot alum or fan saying something racially charged in a rant that has some sort of message, but this letter doesn't sound real at all. Still guessing it's a troll designed to make A&M look bad that sent it.
And interestingly written in all cursive, which would lead me to believe an older female at that.

Looks more like a male's. Very poor penmanship.

"Earlier this evening, we became aware of a letter of unknown origin that was sent to the Sumlin family home. We unequivocally condemn this disgusting and threatening letter. There is no excuse for hatred and, as a community, we will not allow the ignorance of some to intimidate any member of our community. On behalf of all Aggies, our thoughts are with Coach Sumlin and his family, and we will do all that we can to ensure their safety. We are working with law enforcement authorities to bring the sender of this letter to justice. We stand with the Sumlins and will not accept this inexcusable act of hate."
Wow. But a prof says whites should die and it's all ok. This is inexcusable being sent to this coach, but no statement was released in re: to Curry. Unbelievable!

Actually, since the letter says Sumlin " can't win " , releasing it puts hm on the spot to prove it wrong. Sumlin, his coaches and the players, are now under a lot of pressure to prove the letter wrong. It will be very interesting to see how the season turns out .
