Back in 1988, I believe, Bill Curry was coaching at Alabama and was struggling. After a loss, a "fan" threw a brick through the window of his office. Most people assumed it was a disgruntled Alabama supporter (they are crazy - they posion trees you know) and Bill rode a wave of sympathetic news coverage for two more years. Lots of well connected people in Tuscaloosa are suspicious of the story. There is some speculation the brick may have been thrown to get sympathy for Bill.
If someone legitimately sent Sumlin that letter, then shame on them. And if they are an Aggie fan, they should be banned from campus for life.
I did find it ironic that his wife was concerned that a kid might have opened the letter, yet she posts it on the internet where kids will be sure to see if.
