I guess Mrs. Sumlin naively thought Aggie fans would take her post at face value. That was her mistake, for sure. I doubt she figured your fanbase had the chutzpah to call her a liar.
Who called her a liar? I didn't. What is wrong with you?

I can't recall any on-the-field or off-the-field situations / incidents...where the coach's wife's involvement improved the situation / outcome
And this won't change that trend either.

Please post exactly where she "where she made fun of people who didn't know there was a barcode on the back of the envelope". Maybe you need to brush up on your reading comprehension.

I find it so amazing to see people nitpick Charlene Sumlin about something like this. In the end you have to wonder if people would be so hateful if we had beaten UCLA.

I could ask if that letter would have been posted had we beaten UCLA and her husband's job is not in as much jeopardy. The letter is horrible regardless and needs to be dealt with...

If we had beat UCLA , (or not collapsed after being up 44-10) none of this would have happened.

I doubt this is the first racially slurred letter sumlin has gotten. I'd have to guess he gets a lot of emails and most hate mail goes to his ad address. But this one said haphazardly "or else". Rookies need to step aside. Pros got this.

No, she can defend herself quite well. I was calling you out for being passive/aggressive, while completely wrong.

Guess you consider "conspiracy theorist" a compliment.

Saddest part of all of this is the compromise of the investigation and any potential charges that might result. A defense attorney would have a field day with the way this has gone down and do so without breaking a sweat.

Face value? "SO I decided to post it on Twitter where I knew it would take care of itself." That doesn't sound naive. He said in his presser that they had discussed it before she posted. That's not an emotional response.

Several mentioned on here there should be a barcode on the back and it would complete the picture. They asked at the time why that wasn't included and that gave them pause as to the why. And I don't think them writing it is the issue.

So calling someone a conspiracy theorist for being wrong is making fun of them? Wow. How could she have said it in a nicer way so you wouldn't get your feelings hurt? Maybe you shouldn't be such a snowflake.

No but patronising them is.

And if you think I'm a snowflake you must be an avalanche.

If true that they discussed it before she posted it that pretty much confirms posting it on twitter was a calculated decision with the intent of taking heat off Sumlin.

I think it was a combination of circumstances but it wasn't an off the cuff emotional response. Not saying there wasn't emotion in it but it was a measured response.

I've heard about the letter but this is the first time I've seen both it and the follow up. Three things bug me....

1. The idiot who wrote the message, of course.

2. The number of people jumping to a certain conclusion this was written by an Aggie football fan. Possible...perhaps probable? Yes. Certain? Not by any stretch.

3. The long explanation by Mrs. Sumlin. The message speaks for itself, it doesn't need a couple hundred follow up words to speak for it or in response to what others say. It just seems weird. Or maybe I'm the weird one, I dunno.

still not one word from Kevin or Charlene about their thoughts on the Aggie family and how thryve been treated by Ags in their 5+ years here. Just adds to my belief that the reason she posted the letter (w his approval) goes beyond a threat to their family.

if that was the sole reason, i believe they would be careful to try to protect A&M. Theyre smart people and 100% know the implications and ramifications to Texas A&M (what social media would do with this).
no, i think there was a measure of vindictiveness in this fir the wave if criticism from the fan base and buzbee comments.

Charlene- you acknowledged the many personal contacts you have throughout statewide law enforcement agencies- so you and Kevin's best course was to post to social media to get their attention?

REALLY? the whole thing is rotten from all angles.

Their lack of acknowledgement in both their responses gave me pause. The fact that it was discussed prior to posting, they had to know the ramifications. Then no mention of the support they've received from the university's leadership, it's help or it's quick condemnation of the act makes me believe it was a very conscious retaliation at best or an intentional smear. Do I think they are tied to the letter, no. But they were provided a loaded gun. As many have said, divorce can be ugly. I truly hope that's not the case.

So, tin foil?

All the conspiracy talkers are ****ing ******ed.

Sumlin has dealt with this sort of thing before the Ucla game and will have to endure it throughout his coaching tenures.

It's not hard to understand why Sumlin asked her to wait till after the game. Most likely he want his wife to have time to deal with it so he could convence her to let it go.

She heard enough **** about her husband after Ucla she snapped.

Now it has become the worst case scenario for Sumlin. His wife has gotten involved and might have made him radioactive for his next job.

We need to get over this crap.

My thoughts speaking from the perspective of an AA Aggie Alumni. The letter was absolutely disgusting and unacceptable. But as many have stated, I'm sure it isn't the first time he's received such a letter. I also question why she went public with this. But anyways, what's done is done.

Secondly, some the comments in this thread focusing on trashing and belittling the Sumlins are just as disgusting. Who TF are you to classify what should be considered a terrorist threat and what should not until you are subject to such a racist threat? Just let it play out and I hope the perpetrator is brought to justice.

With that said, this letter should not have any bearing on how the Administration handles Coach Sumlin's departure. IMO, Sumlin should have been fired last year and definitely after game one. His performance as a coach is unacceptable.I supported his hiring but it's time for him to go.

People on an Internet forum questioning whether "or else" is a terroistic threat that needs to be investigated is as disgusting as some psycho sending a letter with the N word to a guy that coaches a game? Really?

That's the only thing I can see that could be a terroristic threat. While wholly wrong to lay on someone, the N word isn't illegal.

I am positive Sumlin has mentioned receiving letters before in the past that were racist, and someone tried to push him for more on that (may have been gameday or SEC network a few years back), and he said he didn't really want to get into it.

As far as 3., I think that was an attempt at damage control for having posted the letter to begin with. Took them a little while to come up with proper wording (in their minds) and the length of it pretty much confirms it.
