Knight or Jake will likely be the first upper classman to start at QB since we joined the SEC.

I agree with a lot of your post, but nobody believes the NFL wants Sumlin. Hiring Meacham would change the tide perception wise.

You must not be up on the news or know how to use twitter. Sumlin hasn't denied ANY NFL rumors and recruiting is suffering. Are you related to Bayside? Wilson's pool boy?

I've been around a long time, since coach Bryant. Things have changed. The culture has now changed. 8-4 and a consolation bowl won't cut it anymore. No matter how this turns out we are moving up, Sumlin, Chavis and a new dynamite OC, or a new dynamite HC and his staff. We're not going back to blah. When the dust settles, someone that knows how all this went down should write a book.

It certainly appears as though Sumlin has been given more time to right the ship. The best thing we can do at this point is to put the pots down and support the program. Calling Sumlin out on a public forum isn't going to do any good. Maybe Sumlin can bring in the right OC, win a bunch of games and leave for the NFL with the program on the rise.

I suppose the main question for all of us who haven't dug our heels in on either side is this:

Can Kevin Sumin still be the guy he was in 2012? The one that got all the Sherman players to buy in and play their butts off for him.

If we can have that Kevin Sumlin, then that's who I want running our football program. If that is no longer going to happen, then I don't see the point of delaying the inevitable.

think that was manziel more than sumlin that the players decided to buy into.

If all of this turmoil leads to Meachum as OC momentum does a 180 and the rumors circulating actually benefit A&M.

"All this bad stuff was supposed to happen last time and we got Meachum, don't worry, we got this" as a response to any negative recruiting in the future.

yeah, because "'All this bad stuff was supposed to happen last time and we got the Chief, don't worry, we got this' as a response to any negative recruiting in the future." is working so well this time.

I think both sides are correct in certain areas.

There is a definitely a faction against Sumlin.

Maybe what we are seeing is a battle behind the scenes not only for control but to see who can present a better case for their side first. Maybe those who want Sumlin gone, are trying to show they can line up a top HC, while those supporting Sumlin, are trying to get a top OC, to show that Sumlin deserves one more year.

This whole process is being drawn out way more than Chavis's hire was and in a much more unstable manner. You cannot compare it to last year at all. It is obvious there is some real stuff going down behind the scenes at A&M.

If there were enough BMAs ready to do it, it's really too late to fire Sumlin. The only exception I can think of is if a NFL coach became available.

Plus, A&M may be in the same position as LSU. $20 million is a very big pill to swallow and choke down. This is exactly why Sumlin's friends forced the current employment contract on the A&m administration.

If they did fire Sumlin and pay him off, what affects would this have on A&M in the future; when A&M asked for tuitions to be increased, when A&M asks the state for more money, when A&M is negotiating with employees on the academic side of campus? Regardless if BMAs paid off Sumlin, a lot of people will be asking questions in the future.

So it sounds like the only way KDS stays is with a big name OC like Meachum or someone like Malzonne. We would only get Meachum for one year, and that's only if KDS can convince him a year with the Ags improves his resume for the UH HC opening next year.

So choices are big name one and done or long time buddy who can quickly commit.

Seems like a really stable program going forward/sarcasm.

If we are going to be in the same position next year in trying to recruit an OC, why not just rip the bandaid off now and get a new HC?

If we bring in Meacham we might be bringing in Sumlins replacement.

I don't that plays into it. Athletic money is separate from all that and given the money that the publics in Texas spend on athletics they probably do not want to make that an issue for any school.

I think it is as simple as this. One side wants him gone, the other side doesn't. The $20 million is probably the sticking point, so my guess he gets a guy who will take a non-guaranteed contract or at most a two year one (that would be Mazzone who is currently out of work).

Then both sides agree unless there is major improvement in 2016, Sumlin is gone and everyone contributes to the buyout.

The problem is if it comes out that Sumlin is essentially a lame duck (and the OC hire will tell us this for sure). Then keeping him another year is a wasted year, especially if his heart is not into it.

I want Meacham but I just do not see that happening.

This what pisses me off. By now, it is obvious there is a big rift behind the scenes (or was if the rumors here to be believed). If Spav was known to be gone for a while now. The OC should already be in place. My guess is the pissing contest is still going on to some extent. But if Sumlin is going to be HC in 2016, he needed an OC yesterday to deal with all the perceived instability.

If he is fired they won't be paying ANYWHERE near $20MM. If he is fired, a "for cause" case will be brought.

Just pretend we dump sumlin. Everyone acknowledges it wouldn't be easy to bring in a big time HC, so for the sake of this argument, let's scrap that option. Say we go get someone like Willie Fritz for 2 million. Then spend another million to get a top OC. Give them 3 year deals. We could do that.

Or you keep sumlin and hire a good OC. You do this with a full understanding that no coach in the history of college football has ever gotten progressively worse over his first 4 seasons with a team, and then turned it around.

Is it smarter to gamble with a Fritz type HC and a proven OC? Or should we say f history and stay the course?

THIS.

With all the allegations of dirt on Sumlin, if he does turn it around, he's probably going to jump ship to the NFL then first opportunity. The buyout for him is not huge. Next buyout needs to be equal both ways or at least closer to equal. At least we would be on the rise with options, including a successful OC, for head coach,

It seems to me that a secret and unofficial "HC in waiting" title is the only reason Meacham would consider the move.

We won't fire Sumlin without a replacement and likely without getting Kelly or Herman. My theory is that there was sort of a race to either land Meacham as OC or Kelly/Herman as HC. If it hasn't been made already, I hope we make that decision today or tomorrow.

Sumlin's buyout goes to 0 after this coming season if he decides to leave (i.e. jump to the NFL).

No. Meacham is not a HC candidate at A&M. He's more likely to replace Herman at UH. That's the move is prefer to make. Convince Herman to come to A&M by ensuring UH has a quality replacement (i.e. Meacham).

Before anyone brings up the sips/Herman deal, I think the sips will chase Chip Kelly over Herman.

Just settle down - as much as I would like to see a change it probably isn't happening. Mazzone appears to be the hire, because he can be had for relatively cheap and is basically out of a job. Not getting anyone new at this late date so need to revisit again after next Fall.

Time to move onto basketball...
