It's okay though. We don't have a replacement lined up if we do. Would recruits really see that as a problem?

To be fair I believe he's said he has not heard about a replacement, not that there isn't one.
Also, I had heard a week ago or so that there is a faction of Influential Aggies pushing Sumlin hard.
The one thing I'm just not sure about is getting the 20M buyout to half.
If so, let's get this thing done. Time is paramount. The program will lose more waiting it out all of 2016

There is something up. You can't tell me Sumlin isn't aware that his silence isn't damaging our recruiting.
I'd take a 100% on board Chad Morris if our HC has really checked out (I still find this hard to believe)...
IMO, to not fire a coach who has his program trending in the wrong direction because you are afraid of how it affects one recruiting class is "looking at a granule of sand and not the beach".
The big picture is more important than the "now". Yeah, it might be a gut punch temporarily, but you pick yourself up and move forward with the right replacement.

I am also concerned about the timing being too late to get a quality replacement. I have to think we have that lined up if we plan to run Sumlin off this late. Someone who is not currently coaching seems the most available. Still, I could see why it might be hard for a coach like Herman to turn down. I'm inclined to believe the whole narrative but the whole thing makes me nervous. We need to get on with it if we plan to make a change. And I mean tomorrow.

Strong was like their 7th or 8th choice. They went all in for Saban and it backfired.

Ok Bayside. You're more in the know than me. I had heard (not some official source) that Kelly had a list and we were on it.
Doesn't really refute the argument that Sumlin needs to go or 2017 recruiting will suffer though.
Every other school will pull out the hot seat list and Sumlin is now #1.
The $5 million we pay Sumlin will be lost in revenue alone much less damaging our brand so waiting 11 months makes no sense.
Either buy in to Sumlin for 2 more years or cut the cord, imo.
I'll be very surprised if Sumlin isn't the coach in 2016. Who knows. I'm sure if we can find a way to f this up, we will.

And this recruiting class will be lucky to be top 20, with or without Sumlin. Sumlin has given opposing coaches more than enough ammo to kill this class.
I think they believe they have to act now because they believe they cannot sit on their trump card to negotiate the buyout down a bunch.

I've read that rinky dink contract and seen the videos. There's plenty enough there to litigate this. That contract is not as iron-clad in Sumlin's favor as the masses think.
Doing things behind closed doors is one thing...but being caught in public is something else.
So is Sumlin gone or not?

I didn't realize that National Signing Day is February 3 - less than a month away. About the only option is going to be someone from the NFL. I don't think we'd want a current college HC who would leave his current team in a hole right now. He'd screw us too down the road.
