Yea the admiration Sumlin has for Spurrier is very obvious. It would definitely be a huge hire that no one outside of the TexAgs community would see coming. It would be a media ****show for an entire week, if not two, after that announcement.

Just think what a Spurrier appearance would do for Chavis' golf tournament.

As a kid growing up, I was a hardcore UF fan, watching Spurrier just obliterate teams. I think he also ran a 2 QB system as well at one time, so maybe thats a good connection for Kyler/Kyle?

As awesome as it is to think about Spurrier coming here, just can't quite bring myself to believe it.

Then again, I never thought Chavis was really an option last year, either, so what do I know??

I don't care what anyone says: Spurrier would be a badass hire as OC and would be good for Sumlin when evaluating talent, recruiting, and heading off issues before they blow-up in his face.

Yep, those were my thoughts as well. Maybe this is what BAS is. What a coaching combo that would be though!

I agree. I don't think he will be our OC, but having a DC/OC combo with 47+ years of SEC experience would be great for this team.

I believe it is Spurrier. Only HUGE name out there. (Old Ball Coach) "The name is HUGE"
Rojo would not let this continue if it wasn't.

Name will be "Huge". Maybe change HBC from Head Ball Coach to Huge Balls Coach.

It really isn't BAS for me. Spurrier has long had a soft spot for A&M, and was one the first SEC coaches to welcome us into the conference. As the picture that I posted on an earlier page shows, he was good friends with Slocum and has more than a passing familiarity of what A&M was capable of; the "sleeping giant" appellation.

Now Spurrier has a good friendship with Sumlin and they are kindred spirits in offensive philosophy. A&M is the giant who has awakened with the commitment to football in new facilities, stadium, coaching salaries, etc. But we still need the final missing ingredient to get us over the top. And Spurrier has never been one to shy away from a challenge, whether at Duke, or a floundering Florida, even a moribund South Carolina.

He'd be able to coach the kids without all of the HC hoopla, with a guy he truly likes, a DC he has tremendous respect for (from their old Florida/Tennessee days) in a recruiting rich state, and still in the SEC very familiar territory. The really fun part of coaching for him.

In short, there are plenty of reasons for Spurrier to be intrigued with the idea of being the OC here. The question for me is where he really is in his life. And where his wife is. She up for another move?? Or her staying behind and Steve flying back and forth?? As opposed to a less time demanding cushy gig with ESPN. for instance???

This is as bad as the Hollywood Star Rumored to have HIV on the Entertainment board. Did anyone truly believe it was anyone other than Sheen?

Look, guys, OP is clearly stating that he has inside info that Mangino is a done deal as the next OC.

There is no other possible candidate that he could be hinting at.

Huge - Mangino
Yellow brick road - Mangino in Kansas
Lincoln references - If that's what they are, refer to the high school where Mangino lasted less that a season.

EOT now move along.

Mangino hasn't been considered a big name nor a splash hire since his Kansas days.

Minimal PR ripples on SEC championship weekend. The announcement of his hiring would be a "meh."

So that doesn't really fit the PR narrative.

In response to the Slocum / Spurrier photo, R.C. said that this was from a NIKE get together. "tacky tourist contest on NIKE trip. I thought I should have won."

If Spurrier was thinking about resigning and taking the A&M OC job, wouldn't that explain why he quit before the USC/A&M game? It might look bad after the fact if he was coaching vs. the Aggies while planning to take the OC job?

No.

Sumlin was surprised when Spurrier stepped down. Nothing was on Sumlin's radar before that.

Easy now. Sumlin said all that in a press conference. He also said Kyle was fine. He also said the offense was fine. He also said Kyle was scheduled to play the 4th quarter last week no matter what.

Ask Olin how honest summy is during his PCs.

Reread how Rojo wrote, it could mean Sumlin sees eye to eye with the new OC. The visor to visor comment sounds like he's baiting you all. Some of you hook, line and sinker - no doubt Rojo is eating this up.

It's Spurrier.

Riddle solved. Let's see if he's correct.

Watching Finebaum right now. The show is in Columbia South Carolina. He's interviewing Marcus Lattimore. Finebaum asked Marcus what he thought Spurrier would end of doing. He said he'd go coach somewhere, just not as a HC, unless it was maybe in HS.

Lattimore also said he doesn't think Spurrier would be happy just being an analyst on TV. Too much downtime, and Spurrier doesn't take talking point directions well, as in "He's going to say what he wants to say."
