I think it was Club 2818 that had the 4 for 1 happy hour. Hard to remember though with all the dead brain cells in my skull.

I probably bought a couple of 75 cent Lone Star quarts from him on those Tuesday nights.

Ate at Mom's several time a week from 1960-62. All you could eat, home style, great food. Also Zarape's in Bryan.

Besides all of the great bars and restaurants brought up here the one thing that I remember were the huge parties that were thrown at apartments or behind Northgate and not a cop around to shut it down!! I specifically remember one at Tree House Vilkage thrown by a couple of football players, I think it was an 8 keger or something like that! I don't think students today could get away with that.

Anybody remembers a Chinese buffet restaurant circa '93-'94 next to the original wings & more?? Man I loved that place, good buffet but went out of business kind of quickly

In 1981, the Rugby team stole a keg from the Alpha Tau Omega party, then emptied the keg one beer at a time and returned it empty. The keg was on the back patio of the ATO house, so members of the Rugby team jumped the back fence, stole the keg and loaded into the back of their truck.

I remember that place, but I can't recall the name for sure. Taste of Thai? It was down College Main, IIRC. I used to walk or ride my bike to that joint for lunch often. Good, cheap food, and run by some really neat folks.

While we're reminiscing, does anyone remember that Indian place, around the northwest corner of College Main and Church Street? I think it was either where the Northgate Center or the Public Parking garage is now. I had my first encounter with Indian food there. Not knowing much about curry, I ordered the Curry Beef. They practically immolated that meat with curry. I didn't have the guts to go back and try something else, as I assumed everything would be Death By Curry. I've since acquired a taste for Indian food with curry in moderation, but that was an...experience.

Yep. They (Two Pesos) got away with it for a while because they started in the Houston market as opposed to San Antonio (Taco Cabana's home market). But once TC expanded to Houston, the lawyering commenced.

That sounds familiar. IIRC, they also owned La Taqueria. When I asked the folks at Caf Eccell, "Why did y'all close La Taqueria and start that whatever place that replaced it?", they mumbled something about "lots of Mexican restaurants around here...competition..." etc.

Rosali's predates my time there. Cool to know, though!

Two Pesos was the Flying Tomato when I was a fish.

And La Taqueria next to Cafe Excell was actually pretty damn good.

Remember Los Nortenos? It wasn't any good but you could eat a Mexican combo dinner for $5.

Eccell was bought out by the current owners, I believe in the late 90's.

"Double Dave's at Northgate" would mean different locations depending when you went to school.

Same with Burger Boy. It was in a building that is now the locatrion of the large surface parking lot, then moved a half block away, I think it was briefly at the Westgate Center at the end.

I remember the OP's "Kinko's at Nothgate", corner of College Main and Church.

Los Nortenos and Dos Amigos were the two Mexican places next to each other in downtown Bryan. The story was that originally it was only Los Nort's and the owner of Los Nort's, I want to say his name was Chuck, had opened it and gotten it going really well over a period of years.

At somepoint he left the area temporarily and leased the original Los Nort's to some employees there for a time period. When he came back and the deal was up they would not return the place or something like that. Thus he opened Dos Amigos next door. I think he had another eatery in Conroe. Most of the older staff at the original Los Nort's went to Dos Amigos with the old owner. This all happened about 86' or 87' IIRC.

We always ate at Dos Amigos as from my Mexican and RGV taste buds it was much better than Los Nort's, their flour tortillas were homemade and their menudo was far superior.

There was another small Mexican place off of 21 in Bryan that was very, very good. Only frequented by Mexicans/Hispanics as it was a dumpy hole in the wall. But the food was excellent, I wish I could remember the name. But they were hit and miss on being open.

The club at the Deux Chene apartments was the original Edge before it moved next to Winn-Dixie. Lots of memories in Aggieland during the late 80's and early 90's as the student population really grew and it was still a primarily budget oriented or limited school. Good times.

Anyone ever take your bonfire buddy to Charlie's for some Blue Bell?

Remember when you could smoke in all these bars? Going back now it's amazing what you can see--they have walls and even ceilings. Some even have decorations. And you don't smell like a wildland firefighter the next morning.

I think it was Dos Hermanos, not Dos Amigos, IIRC, but yeah, I always preferred Dos Hermanos over Los Nortenos too. I *think* that at one point, around '89 or '90 or so, that there was a doorway between the two of them, and I seem to recall getting shunted over to Los Nortenos once as an "overflow" when Dos Hermanos was full.

I don't remember the Mexican place on 21 offhand. Do you recall its name?

I also remember a Gina's Taqueria or similar, in downtown Bryan, somewhere around North Bryan Avenue between W 23rd and W 24th. They had pretty good deals, too. One year, when living in Dunn Hall, one of my buds (the Patron Saint of Coupons) saw a coupon for Gina's Taqueria in The Batt, with no expiration date. He took every single Batt from the rack in The Commons, cut out the coupons from each one, and returned all of the Batts he took to their original location. Which is kind of cheesy. Anyways, after using those coupons for about a year, the owner finally had to tell us that he would not accept them anymore, as it was a proofing error made by his brother, and he posted it in the window of the restaurant that it was invalid.

Casa Rod is now in the old Gina's location. Casa Rod used to be a block or two away.

Charlie, I lived at Mom's in Bryan 2 semesters in'76/'77 included 3 square meals/day for $85/month. Mrs. Carlton & Miss Ball charged anybody and everybody $1.25 for breakfast, $1.50 for lunch, $1.75 for supper....all family style.
