Wasn't there a theater on Business 6 across the street from the campus between University and George Bush?

And I remember before the Dixie Chicken there was a small shop in Northgate near Charlie's Grocery Store that sold eight track tapes and albums. Now it is part of the Dixie Chicken.

The Dixie Chicken opened in 1974 or 1975. I went there often in 1975.

Fort Shilo, Toms bbq, cow hop, flying tomato, fajita Rita's!!! Remember "the Texan" in Bryan??? My wife of 27 years and I went there the night we got engaged at the research park!

Went there once. That was enough. Waitress dressed me down loudly because I accidentally bumped into her and burned her with my cigarette. I was so drunk that when she was done I put it out on my arm. I just remember her face as I crushed it out burning a hole in my arm. I was out on the street a few minutes later.

How about Arnold's BBQ, who remember's that? Now that's Ol' Army was on Texas Ave. where the parking lot for Barnes and Noble is.

Mac's pool hall, Handy Burger, Aggie Den, Taylor's Variety Store, Waldrops Men's Store, Shaffer's Bookstore, Carol's Corner, Zubick Taylor Shop, all at Northgate.

Anyone remember when Texas Ave was called Hwy 6 ?

Glad someone mentioned Carney's. It was one of first places that had Shiner Bock and one of the radio stations would broadcast their and we would play 42 during the week. Pretty cheap prices too

I just remembered there were places that had "any coin any drink" and we'd show up with our role of pennies. That was craziness.

In no particular order, we hit La Tacquaria, Ritas (just Ritas; casual place on Harvey, I think Fuddruckers is there now), Toms, Randy Sims BBQ, Los Nortenos (sp??) for lunch on Friday, Deluxe Diner, and occasionally Chicken Oil Co. I'm missing some. For chains, we hit Bennigans quite a bit, Black Eyed Pea when it came to CS, and believe it or not, Golden Corral was surprisingly good when it first opened. I wouldn't step foot in any GC now. Chilis didn't open until the summer I left CS.

What was the Mexican place at the mall? It wasn't great but it was OK. Decent lunch specials. I got comped there half a dozen times with relatively minor complaints -- and I wasn't necessarily looking for free food. They just said, "how was it.." and I answered.

Made 10 cents per drink plus tips that were shared with bartenders. Had to wear a spaghetti strapped leotard (no bra possible) with a wrap skirt and high heels. The owner kept offering to take me to Vegas with him. He had kids older than I was.

Ooof! What a crap job that was. Made decent money, though.

That link reminded me of my time as a cocktail waitress at Mansard House in the Doux Chene apartments. Was paid ten cents a drink + tips (deducting the bartender's share.) It was am upscale restaurant that then had disco dancing after the dinner hour. The waitresses wore Danskin spaghetti strapped leotards with wrap skirts, hose, high-heeled metallic shoes.
