You are thinking of Sneakers on Harvey near Texas Ave. Besides the sand volleyball court, it was also famous for its "bladder buster" happy hour on Thursday nights. They would cordon off the bathrooms and wristband everyone who would pay, and everyone would drink unlimited well drinks, beer, & wine until someone had to use the bathroom. Usually a girl.

I was a Chicken Oil Company devotee on Sundays. Double meat double cheese deathburger and a 24 ounce Foster's to chase the hangover.

But there was a Bank of A&M building that became a restaurant...Last National Bank, I think it was. Great baskets of nachos and a Bloody Mary.

Can't remember the name at the time, ('77-'78) but I was a cocktail waitress at the disco club upstairs at the Doux Chene apartments on 2818. Made 10 cents per drink plus tips that were shared with bartenders. Had to wear a spaghetti strapped leotard (no bra possible) with a wrap skirt and high heels. The owner kept offering to take me to Vegas with him. He had kids older than I was.

Ooof! What a crap job that was. Made decent money, though.

LOL aggiehawg. Just missed you a few years, lived in doux chene my last year. BTW, sorry if mentioned but there was a red barn type place just north of CS in Bryan that had all you could eat catfish on Friday's. Anyone remember?

I don't remember the exterior well, but I wonder if the "red barn" place was Ken Martin's before it moved over to 29th St. It was on Texas Ave., about 3.5 miles into Bryan. It had a room that had rock walls, like a cave.

Pepe's is still around, by the way, and run by Ken Martin's son Kip.

While we're on the subject...not sure if it's been mentioned on this board yet but our old friend and great Ag Hans Betten passed away this month:

Ate at Mom's several time a week from 1960-62. All you could eat, home style, great food. Also Zarape's in Bryan.

Charlie, I lived at Mom's in Bryan 2 semesters in'76/'77 included 3 square meals/day for $85/month. Mrs. Carlton & Miss Ball charged anybody and everybody $1.25 for breakfast, $1.50 for lunch, $1.75 for supper....all family style.

Dad always talked about a place called Ma Ball's. I have to assume this is the same one. If not, is anyone familiar with where Ma Ball's was in the mid 50s?

Miss Ball always made the lettuce/tomato salad sitting in the same metal chair every day. She and hercsister Mrs Carlton had that house, boarded 3 Aggies, and fed folks as far back as Bonnie & Clyde who they would frequently mention.

I'm surprised Whermann's didn't get more love from this group, nor Saenz tamales down closer to 21. Good eats.

Lived right next door to Dead Solid Perfect. House got smoky at times. But it was a good smoke. Used to have suppers up on the rail road tracks and played dominoes.

I'm pretty sure the locations overlapped, at least for a few years. I'm relying on pre-driving memory, though, so could be wrong.

Cow Hop! Loved how they yelled at you if you didn't order fast enough. The shakes were like a buck and the best deal in town. Does anyone have a picture of that old place?

Anyone remember the Malts they used to sell at the Texas A&M dairy store?

Has anyone put together a list of what businesses used to occupy each building?

For example:

Logie's on Campus
Logan's
Texadelphia
etc....

The Backyard
Fitzwillies
and so on....

Gatsby's
Dry cleaners

My memory is not the best, so I couldn't fill it all out.

Not that I can recall in this thread... would be interesting to see how these places evolved into what they are today.

Cow Hop, Roadhouse and Italian Place ( Big Paulie's) were where Mad Hatters is.

Backyard - was also a Taco Cabana

Dry Bean used to be a place called Sticky Chins - an ice cream parlor

There was no Post Oak Mall when I lived at Briarwood and Plantation Oaks apartments. I was thrilled when we got a Jack-in-the-Box at Highway 30 and Texas.

Can I get a do-over??

Damn, you're old. I went to teen nights at ROXZ in the mall, and I'm old as hell.

ROXZ was there in 85.

I almost got arrested for peeing in the parking lot just outside there.

And how on earth can there be no Double Dave's in Northgate anymore??
