I recall spending many Friday evenings at Hastings in Culpepper Plaza - grabbed a beer from the keg as I walked in then wandered around the VHS movie section looking for something to rent (and hoping it was rewound!).

For a time there was an Indy band bar on Texas right next to the Military Depot and across from Alfred T Hornbacks (great pool bar).

Don't remember name (usually messed up at most of these old places), had a band that sang a song called "Aint no cure for the butt flu" classy I know but one of those things thats hard to forget.

Aggieland in the 70's and 80's - especially when Jackie got rolling - was the best.

The Tomato was really great pizza, no doubt.

It was so long ago that there was no tailgating and if you hurried when the game was over you MIGHT get a beer at "The Bus" that parked right at the gates to Kyle at the Northwest corner.....Still don't know how they did it at that time. Think someone still has The Bus, but not sure where it parks now.

On roadies to L$U I always thought we should be doing this tailgate stuff.

Still wondering what's up with Joe Carney. I remember when he converted it to a bar and thought he ruined a great chicken fry, but he made up for it.

Alfred T Hornbecks was the Thirsty Turtle for a while during the 82-83 time frame. This was after the original Thirsty Turtle at Northgate was demolished to make way for the 7-11.

The original Thirsty Turtle was kind of a redneck bar on Northgate. With the move to Eastgate, clientele changed and it became a biker bar.

My dad was the bartender at the old Thirsty Turtle for a couple years where the gas station is now. He always said something about it every time we drove by there.

Class of '92. Great list. Was not much into country music at the time but remember getting obliterated at Denim and Diamonds on Thursday once...that was any coin any drink night

Hornbacks was great for pool. There was a chinese buffet place that I don't remember the name of. Remember going there and tanking up for cheap.

German restaurant in town center of Bryan was awesome. Stafford Opera house was a cool place.

Cavitt St bar and grill in Bryan. Home of the triple double, a greasy cheeseburger, fries and tea for $2.22.

There was a walk-up place on NG that sold burritos in the mid 80s. I think it was next to Duddey's and I don't remember the name.

Flying tomato was pretty good pizza.

South of the Border nights at Graham Central Station - on Wednesday nights. Free Tex Mex buffet and 5 cent Stroh's on draft...yes...you read that correctly...5 cent Stroh's. Good times.

There was a "dance club" in the corner of the strip mall old Schlotsky's and Clicks was located in, they used to have those same drink specials without the bladderbuster. Don't remember name as I only went there once or twice for the drinks and a date.

That was the aforementioned "The Edge". Damn that must have been on a weeknight or something bc I sure don't remember them having any such special. Guess I was too busy at the Chicken or Sneakers or some such. But I did spend many a late Saturday night at the Edge. Awesome little club

This has been awesome to read and I remember most places mentioned. Some of you other folks from late 70's early 80's help me with two places I can't remember the name of. One was a sports bar on Texas just noth of University and (I think) just south of Luby's. The other was a pretty good place to watch Monday Night Football and drink pitchers and was on second floor of a building on the east side of Texas along where Fuego is or maybe a little south.
I had totally forgotten about Dallas the nightclub--a place where 4-for-1 on Fridays made us miss some yell practices.

In 81 that place was a bar called the 12th Man. They had it decorated with Aggie memorabilia. It was a nice break from the Chicken when we wanted to go to a more "upscale" place. My first love was the Chicken but I always have a bitter taste in my mouth when I look at that convenience store and remember what it replaced.

Yeah, I remember that whole fiasco. IIRC, that location across from Zachry was the Cowhop Junction and was their theoretical "bigger and better" location, but it flopped. Once they left Northgate, and even when they came back, you're right - it was never the same.

If I remember correctly, Mom's Diner was in a house in a neighborhood in Bryan. It was a wood framed house. You walked in the front door and there was a lady (may have been the owner and owner of the house) taking your cash. I can't remember if she took checks. Anyway, there were two rooms (a dinner room and living room) that were essentially the dinner area. You sat with whoever you went with and strangers, like eating at grandmas house. There was a different main item each night. Like the article said, Chicken Fried Steak, Meat Loaf, etc. Then there were a variety of side dishes (lots of veggies) that were served family style. Basically on the table like you were eating at home. Then there was a different dessert each night. I think we paid $3.25 or $3.50 for all you could eat and that was in the 1981-1984 time frame. It was a great deal for a college student and we always felt like it was our secret eating place. It was usually full, but I don't recall ever having to wait in line. I think the entire dining area held maybe 25 to 30 people.

It really reminded me at the time of eating at my grandmother's house include the awesome hospitality. It makes me wonder if she even had the permitting to operate a restaurant. Iced tea and water were the main drinks served. Tap water in a pitcher.

I have a mug shot from Brazos County Jail I got after leaving Clicks happy hour (2 for 1 Kamikazes)... mullet and all.

My buddy worked at the photoshop where the police processed their photos and "presented me" with this gift.

What was the name of the place on the far south side that had 2 for 1, then 3 for 1, then 4 for 1, then 3 for 1, then 2 for 1 drink specials every Friday night back in the early 80's. I could never remember past the 4 for 1.
