How have all these awesome places shut down but the bastion of ****** baggery called Gatsbys remains open? That is the worst place in the world.

I think Fort Shiloh closed in 1995 or 1996. I remember going there a bunch when I was a kid and I think my freshman year.


I worked on Northgate from 1996-2000. Someone earlier mentioned the Crooked Path. That was the best bar on Northgate back then. I loved that place.

And Freebirds is not overrated. It rocks.

I miss the Cow Hop, La Taqueria, Fort Shiloh and The Delux Burger and the old Kettle on University after a late night at the Chicken. And JJ Mugs.

Anyone remember the Edge?

I remember the Edge when it was in the room above the apartment complex on 2818. They were the loosest ID checking place in town. Was it Doux Chene apartments.

I remeber when Blinndergarden had a small a campus behind the Tap and JD Wells. There used to be a Double Dave's right there as well.

Carrie's Stacked Enchiladas....I once ordered the Chili, worst 24 hours of my life.

Haven't been back to CS in a while, is the Chicken Oil Company still around? They had the best burgers in town when I was there 89-91.

Took summer school French (great choice, huh?) at the Blinn behind the Tap. Our professor was a chain smoker who took a lot of breaks during the 4 hour evening classes. Almost the whole class would go to the Tap during breaks for a quick draft, followed by a roadie fill-up of the insulated water bottles with the straws.

It's no wonder that after 4 semesters of French I can't speak a GD word of it.

Bernie's is gone? That was a great on-campus date site (that took Aggie Bucks).

Bernies is still around. It's above the underground on northside (it may have moved since you were here)

And heck yes Chicken Oil is still alive and kicking. Fantastic burgers.

I don't recognize many of these places touted as "old army". I guess that makes me Old Old Army.

315 bar (I think) - shot bar on northgate that served flaming dr. Peppers. Bartender would line them, take a shot, hold it in his mouth then blow fire, thereby lighting the shots. This happened until the fire Marshall told them next time they close the doors. I realize this prob happens other places but the effect was cool in that cramped bar.

Sushi place around the corner - this place still there? we started out so many trips to NG with sake bombs here. Again, presentation is everything. We made the Asian take the katana off the wall and count down in Japanese with the sword in a slicing motion.

Also happy to see Pepe taco represented on here.

This. Went early every Thursday to get stamped before cover charge, then came back later. Nothing beat that place.
