Wow, long overdue for an update! All these other great build threads on here have been distracting me!
I haven't done a great deal of work, mainly due to saving up some coin for wheels and tires, but I have made a little progress.
I ended up buying one of the Procar seats kind of as a test run....they are nice little seats!
Decided to make my own mounting brackets instead of paying $80 a pop for theirs. As close as the seat lined up to the mount holes, it wouldn't be hard:
Test fit:
Cut some angle iron into small pieces and got holes drilled:
Painted black for extra performance:
Fit up:
Not bad at all:
Finished product:
If you look close you can see I turned the front brackets around 180 degrees, as I wasn't quite happy with my sitting position. It moved the seat back just the right amount I think....
I can always re-drill the brackets if I need to. So far so good.
Somewhere along the way I realized my reverse lockout solenoid and backup lights work! That was pretty exciting for some reason....I guess just more confirmation all my wiring worked as it should. The ignition has to be on for the ECU to power the lock out solenoid, allowing an easy shift into reverse. That will be money when I'm actually driving this thing!
The proof:
Now the good stuff! Saturday I loaded the car up and took it to Discount Tire to test fit some wheels and tires. I've been on and off the fence going, so I finally just committed and went.
The SS looked good out in the sun!
I was a little dissapointed with the selection at discount tire, but they were helpful and we talked through a lot of ideas. The biggest thing I left with was the knowledge of what will fit.
Here are some results. This is an 18x8, with a +35 ET. It fit pretty good, but did leave some space unused.
This last pic sort of shows how the wheel can come out more:
That wheel well makes an 18" rim look small, suddenly!
So, I've dialed into what I think will be near perfect, and that is a 19x9 with an offset of about +12 to around +20, give or take.
I didn't care for the style of that wheel much, but it was a good size to start with.
Tire size:
Based on some calcs, that tire is 10.08" wide. A 275/40/19 should be about 10.80" wide, which I think will for sure fit. There was easily 3/4 of an inch under there left, just a matter or getting the offset right.
So that's my plan. a 275/40/19 on 19x9 wheel. For the sake of suspense, I will say that I have a wheel on order that will be in later this week for a test fit. All signs point to it being awesome.
I'll just leave that there for now!!
