Played Whispering Pines again last week. God I love that place. I took some pics and I'll post them soon.

Played Sweetwater (Pecan) earlier this week for the first time and enjoyed it. Greens were recently aerated but will be in great shape in 2 weeks.

Mama - Pine Forest off of Clay Rd.?

I've played there once - very nice - seems like a great place to be a member at.

My son played their high school regional tournament the past two days at Eagle Point. The greens were the best that I have seen anywhere in the country! The super said that they were rolling at 13.5 on thee meter. They were Augusta fast!

I'm staying off the course today but will hit the driving range and try to get an hour or two chipping and putting. I blew a valient attempt at breaking 90 last week because I can't putt for crap. I plan to putt and chip exclusively for the next week!

My Mama Said - I played in the same golf tournament at Wildcat on Monday. Yeah, the scoring was a joke. Our group was 38 under par and still lost by 22 strokes, lol.

Man I hate scramble season!!!

Ezra - Yes, on Clay near Barker Cypress. I really enjoy PFCC - it is a fantastic golf club with a lot going for it. 27 holes, just got new bunkers last year, the greens are fantastic year round, new fitness center and a pretty active capital improvement program keeps it constantly improving. The greens are on the small side, but are about as good as bermuda can be. We had a couple of weeks this winter where the overseeded rye was about perfect. The head super said we had the perfect amount of rain (for the rye), cold (to keep the bermuda dormant) and sun (for the rye) to get the rye super tight. They were as fast and true as they could possibly be. I think it was in mid-late January.

PFCC is a tight course, and even at 6900 yards can be sneaky long. My 14 index carries *very* well when I play elsewhere, especially a course with big greens. I played Redstone Tournament course the week after the SHO, wasn't playing particularly well, and still hit 14 greens!

WDMPG - The tourney last Monday at Wildcat was crazy. There were at least 200 golfers at that thing, and I am convinced more than half couldn't keep score. I am growing leary of scramble, vendor golf. I'm still trying to figure out how a 2 man net best ball shamble can yield an 84. That is 60 under par net!!!!

Played the Resort course @ the Westin Resort La Cantera two weeks back (home of the Valero Texas Open) and it was a blast... awesome views , great elevation changes and it very nice shape. They treat you great there. Round is 140, but I had it in my package as a guest of the resort.

I love that course. Played two rounds on each course last summer during a three day weekend trip. Plamer Course is not my favorite, but does have some good holes. Too many blind shots for my taste. I may actually be playing there again in a few weeks. I read somewhere that ezlinks.com has specials for the two courses from time to time. The last two times I was in S.A. we played a fun muni right next to La Cantera called Cedar Creek. If they could get the greens in better shape, it would be a great course. Lot of elevation changes and some good risk reward holes. Almost made a hole in one on the short par 4 11th last time out. I about had a heart attack.

Jeff...You make me sick.

Has anybody played the TPC Canyons course in Las Vegas? I am going to Vegas in a couple of weeks and wonder if I should give it a try.

I have played the Canyons course twice and it has ate my lunch both times. I read in a magazine where the number two hole is one of the greatest 100 holes in all of golf. You will enjoy the experience. There is a canyon that runs right thru the middle of the course which branches off several times so it comes into play on most of the holes. Watch out for the marshalls though because they are old and mean and think that the place is Augusta.

If you have the opportunity to play another course, I would try Bears Best over Canyons ...

played houston national today. They are building a HUGE new clubhouse and it's almost done(probably 1-2 more months) Very nice looking. They have also added A/C units to their carts which along with the LCD GPS makes those carts the most technologically advanced I've seen. NOTE: A/C unit cost 5 per round to use, but in the mid summer months would be well worth it.

5 per hole might be worth it in August.

I played Whispering Pines again last week. I came away disappointed, especially considering how much I loved it last year.

They had a fungus or something eat up large portions of the greens, so that sucked...especially when you ball lands in the new sandtrap on the green. Speaking of sandtraps, they were worse than the greens. Hard as a rock, every one of them. I asked the forecaddy why they didn't rake them in the mornings. He said he didn't know, but they do spray them down in the morning. WTF?

Other than that the course was in great shape and of course the layout is excellent. I just hope the greens and traps are fixed the next time I make it out.

Yeah, yeah...stop hitting in the traps and it won't matter...I know.

some of these turf diseases are incredibly hard to control. Grass is not meant to be cut at 1/8" or lower. Just a matter of time before you start seeing more of these area courses having disease issues.

Agman-
Correct, the greens were not up to their normal standard. The 1st green was really bad, so bad they had to re-sod a major portion. The explanation was, "this green gets too much shade." I think they cut down some trees behind the green as well.

I'm going back in 2 weeks and staying overnight - haven't had a chance to try out the cottages yet. It's still a great place.

I'm playing Monday at Country Place.

Most everyone I know is out of town, so I'll probably just go walk-on at Southwyck or Clear Creek on Saturday / Sunday.

If anyone needs a single let me know.

Jeff - I'm playing Monday late morning. I have to pick up my wife and son at IAH around 4:30, so I was thinking of hitting Cypresswood if I can get a tee time. However, after the downpour today, Wildcat may be a better idea. Give me a call if you want to join me.

Played 18 Friday afternoon at Pine Forest and we must have been on the edge of the rain b/c we didn't get a single drop.

Tee'd off at Pine Forest @ 8:28 Sat AM and got in 15 before a small shower, then finished off last 3 holes before it really came down. 2 days lucky!

Passing today and going to make a run at it tomorrow @ 9. I wish holiday weekends were always perfect weather....

I understand that BraeBurn is closing their course for 3-6 months while they redo their fairways, greens and tee boxes (everything but bunkers?). They may have lost their greens to some disease? Anybody hear this? They get playing priviledges at Pine Forest starting next week.

Tee it up!!

Its all about peace, love and unity.

Monsoon hit me on the 14th teebox at Southwyck this afternoon. Wow. Big fat raindrops for two holes. I figured I was drenched as it was, so I just finished out. Actually played pretty dang good in the rain/wet.

Has anyone played Waterwood National lately? That was a good layout, but crappy condition several years ago when I played it last.

Waterwood is an excellent layout. we played our regional tournament there inHigh School. not sure about the condition of the course, but the layout is fantastic.

I played Waterwood back in the mid 70's when they had "Q" School qualification out there. It was as hard of a course as I had ever played. I was a 8 handicap back then and really struggled to shoot an 84!

Played Gleannloch Pines today... running well, it drains quite nicely.

Question:
Does anyone here play in the Little John's golf League in Houston?? I'm joining up and plan to be out @ the June 10th tournament. If you are in it , let me know!

(The last 5 holes are perfect)

#15 Par 3, "island" green, approx. 140 yds

#16 Par 3 (back-to-back Par 3's) long carry over water

#18 Par 4, dogleg left, 460+, carry over water on approach

nice pics....man i havent been out there in years. Corby has his home situated perfectly doesnt he!

Ive only played the course once.....back before it was finished. We played night golf. The afternoon before we played, we were touring around the course in a truck and spotted a HUGE alligator on the 15th's green. (it really wasnt a green yet)

I have to get back out there now that im back in TX! I know too many people out there not to somehow get an invite to play. wish me luck!
