180 hours and out

the ordeal is over

remarkable that the trucks finally show up en masse in the neighborhood...and the power is restored later that day

where have they been all this time?

I'm surprisingly out.

Linemen from Illinois showed up this afternoon, cut up the problem tree, and reconnected our block. I watched the fuse go in with as much anticipation as waiting for an Achane KO return.

77494 still in. Seems like I must to be the last house in Katy without power along with the other 40 homes on our couple blocks. If I hear "nested outage" from CenterPoint one more time…….

Just think, you were without power for 8 days and it took less than 10hrs of labor to fix.

If Centerpoint had a plan and was able to dispatch crews immediately, instead of "ASSESSING" the situation for 5 days you'd have had power in a reasonable amount of time.

100% mismanagement.

I think 10 hrs is a little dishonest. How many guys were there working? I'd guess it was more like 60-80 man hours. Not arguing your point, just think it is appropriate to be clear. For certain this is mismanagement.

It's also dishonest to say they were assessing for 5 days. Work was absolutely being done. Was it being done efficiently? I don't think so. But not like they completely sat on their thumbs for 5 days.

Thank you for correction - yes hours X # of men = man hours.

But still in a regular work day, most neighborhoods could have been back on line. Their restoration plan was an absolute **** show of a joke.

They boasted they walked 8,700 miles of lines. They boasted they would not start repairs until they assessed the damage.

A lineman came to my house on Friday morning to identify a downed line that broke at the insulator. His response "I could fix that now, but I have to submit an asssement and engineering has to develop a repair plan".

Crew showed up Saturday and fixed it in about 2 hours.

They should have dispatched crews with instructions to FIX what you can and report major issues so we can develop a plan. That's why crews were sitting in staging areas for days.

From a liability perspective, they simply cannot do that.

It sucks, but from a engineering+business standpoint I fully understand why

Centerpoint screwed up big time. But also our elected officials have just sat on their asses for years instead of taking action to address the vulnerabilities of our power infrastructure. The reality is that we should expect more and more extreme weather events and it seems no one who could do anything to make the aftermath of this type of thing less severe wants to do anything about it. They'd be very happy if we kept our anger pointed at Centerpoint and not the people who've run the state for 20+ years now.

Respectfully disagree.

Then don't complain about no power for 8 days.

Again, I never said they were efficient. But saying they assessed for 5 days before doing anything is just wrong. I mean I got power back on day 4 and believe about half got power back by end of day 2.

Obviously they struggled with more isolated issues and getting those fixed. They also seemingly completely ignored some circuits. But acting like it took a few hours to fix a poster's issue on day 7 so if they just knew what they were doing it all should be fixed on day 1 is silly…..

Ridiculously binary.

"if you don't agree with me, then you can't complain."

What happens if the out of town crew starts a fire, blows a transformer, or something else when they didn't have permission from CP to work? Huh?

The odds are low, but **** happens.

There are Management of Change processes and procedures for a reason. I'll agree with you that how the entire process is currently run is inefficient and cumbersome, but some type of MoC procedure and check MUST happen. No company can have a wild wild west of things happening and expect to keep up with what is repaired.
dBoy99
How long do you want to ignore this user?

The lineman are capable of splicing wires and replacing downed transformers without an engineering plan.

Not going to argue with you because you are WRONG, but you didn't have power for 8 days because their plan sucked. And part of that ****ty plan was "We need an engineering review before we do anything" approach.

Report the issue, repair the issue, report the repair.

Sounds like they are following Agile development. After they assessed the issue they had to go write up stories for each fix and vote on a story weight and assign each task to different groups and get buy in before they could start doing any work

the traffic light at Stuebner Airline and Spring-Cypress was still out yesterday afternoon

deputies were in the middle of the intersection directing traffic

the traffic light at Ella and 34th was also still out yesterday afternoon

there was no one directing traffic

wonder where those lights were in the, uh, "assessment plan"

that's something that is totally unacceptable a week after the storm passed through

and, yes, the line of cars waiting at the Shipley's was backed up to the light

so the 2 lanes coming north from 610...had to play the 4-way stop game...and merge to one lane while going thru the intersection

just fantastic
