I get the deal but I don't like it. We basically gave up our top 2 hitting prospects because we didn't sign JV in the off-season.
To me any money is moot as it's just rich people's money since there's no hard salary cap and just a penalty cap taking money out of rich people's pockets.

I think we may have handled the JV free agency slightly different had we had a crystal ball and known we'd be without LMJ and Garcia for the season...and Urquidy also missing a good chunk.
We have a chance to win now, take it. You never know when that window closes nor how prospects end up. Everyone *****ed and moaned when we traded for Greinke, they probably couldn't tell you who those prospects were now....

if that money can be used to sign tucker, then it's definitely not moot
Baseball prospects are such a crap shoot. I'm not gonna lose too much sleep over trading these 2 but agree, if this takes away from signing Tucker then the front office screwed up.

Ask the people that let go of Yordon if they regret that move.
I don't think this really affects Tucker other than we'll have more pressure to sign him after 2025 which is when Verlander would roll off the books.
I know prospects don't always pan out but Gilbert and Clifford sure look damn good at a position where we don't have a lot of prospect depth.
I really thought Gilbert would get a call up this year and have a good chance at the post season roster.
Also agree we didn't have the crystal ball to know the injury status of our starters.
Emotionally I'm glad to have Verlander back but it cost us quite a bit.
