Source confirms to me and @JimBowdenGM: Mets getting Drew Gilbert in deal for Verlander. First: @Feinsand

Full trade, per ESPN sources:

Astros receive: RHP Justin Verlander.
Mets receive: OF Drew Gilbert and OF Ryan Clifford.
Deal is done.
Easy to say....but we're in a different position now than we were in the offseason....Chewy said:
Both arguably our top 2 prospects. Outfield for sure.
I get the deal but I don't like it. We basically gave up our top 2 hitting prospects because we didn't sign JV in the off-season.
To me any money is moot as it's just rich people's money since there's no hard salary cap and just a penalty cap taking money out of rich people's pockets.
Just makes it that much more important to sign Tucker long term.Chewy said:

Baseball prospects are such a crap shoot. I'm not gonna lose too much sleep over trading these 2 but agree, if this takes away from signing Tucker then the front office screwed up.
The New York #Mets are sending the #Astros about $54 million in the Justin Verlander trade, one executive said, if Verlander's $35 million option in 2025 becomes vested.
— Bob Nightengale (@BNightengale) August 1, 2023
Verlander is owed about $93 million, meaning the #Astros would pay Verlander about $29 million for 2 1/3 years
Should that be $39m for the 2 1/3 year or am I missing somethingChewy said:
Ho. Le. ***. Cohen don't give a damn about money. I still think the money is moot for the most part as it's rich people moving a few million around which is like a few thousand for most folks but damn this is crazy.
I see now why we had to give up both guys. The New York #Mets are sending the #Astros about $54 million in the Justin Verlander trade, one executive said, if Verlander's $35 million option in 2025 becomes vested.
