Drove from SW Fort Worth to DFW airport and back - no issues. Some snow/ice on parts of the road, but ALL roads I was on had at least one good lane, highways had 2+.

So maybe not a "nothing burger", but definitely not a "shut down the world" type of event.

Lots of heavy sleet in SW Ft Worth/Hulen area right now. Love it. Looking forward to some snow this evening hopefully!

In just the last 15 minutes TxDot reporting ice now covering all roads in Dallas area. This is getting worse. Anyone that thinks closing the schools when they did was wrong is a certifiable moron.

I don't know how accurate that actually is.
Just made drive from grapevine to Irving down 114 and had zero issues. No slick spots
Just slush and water .. zero traction issues

Not I do agree canceling school was 100% the correct decision. No need for more people to be out and about but roads not too bad right now at all and looking at forecast not supposed dip below freezing in south half of metroplex until late tonight
So the refreze overnight will make for some treacherous driving conditions early tomorrow before it starts to melt away likely Midday especially on well traveled roads
Eastbound 114 is completely shut down at Loop 12 now.

Where are you seeing that?
I've been in the road near that area all morning with no issues.
Also the map you're showing just shows " snow or ice on the road" … doesn't necessary means the road is iced over"

Pleasantly surprised it's still just thick snow coming down here. Gotta be at least three inches total I think.

Well if there's 1 lane for all the millions of people that commute daily, why did we even shut down?

Went through a slowdown the last hour, but it's back to big fluffy snowflakes now. I'm going to be conservative and say it's probably 2.5"-3" of accumulation.

Good to hear. I have a 2 mile commute back to Lake Highlands and they've treated 75 and Greenville, so everything looks to be moving well.

You should be good. My commute was slightly longer w/ several bridges....they are treating and roads were honestly not terrible but i do not think i would roll the dice much later in the day as far as my commute....the worst was far and away my exit in Plano and the side roads home....obviously....

I didn't say that.

Just providing real world conditions vs sitting in my parents basement posting a TXDOT map showing the next ice age.

The snow is now turning to sleet here in Plano. About 3 inches of snow came down this morning prior to now.

Same I got to get back up NE McKinney. Probably leave the office around 3ish. I was surprised we still had 20 patients show up, but I think most are out of towners who were already staying here.

Haven't had any precip at the office in about 45 minutes and the roofs are starting to drip

Very light flurries here now. Nothing sticking at all, though. I thought I'd get rain/sleet most of the day followed by light snow tonight. So far, it's even fell short of those expectations here. Not complaining though! We'll see how the rest of today/tonight turns out.

Checking temps and dew points around (and mainly south of) us.

I think temps are going to stay where they are. If you're catching snow now, anything that falls rest of day is going to be snow.

If you're getting sleet, you're "worst case" is going to be more sleet, but still a good chance it turns to snow later.

If you're south of the metro and getting rain, might be SOL.

Up from 33 to 35 and switched from snow to rain in Fort Worth with some roof melting

Getting mainly sleet and rain here in Lakewood. Man this weather sucks.

Some sleet build up on steps but that's about it.

Here's what someone posted on s2k

Quote:

There is a small warm nose at the 800-850mb level moving from southwest to northeast with this next line of precip, turning over to mostly Frz Rain with some sleet. Should last until 5-6pm tonight until transitioning back over to sleet then all snow, heavy at times

Here's a snap shot of that 850mb warm layer later this afternoon :

(note: the HRRR continue to cool this layer down it gets closer into range so take it for what it's worth, maybe not much)

This was my biggest concern from all of this. It's basically forming a heavy brick of ice.

My brother's flight from Seattle back to DFW just turned around midway and is headed to Portland. They said DFW airport ran out of chemicals for their heated runway system. This is after his flight last night was cancelled to get here.

His wife may kill him if he can't get back tomorrow since they're having a baby shower on Saturday for their first kid lol

Alaska? Sounds like they're full of it. Tons of flights still coming into DFW, and heated runways aren't a thing. Perhaps they said they're out of deice fluid for the planes? That would still be pretty fast to run out.

Idk flight radar traffic sure looks light around DFW at the moment. At a 2 min glance anyways.

60% cancelled, so a lot. Probably more later because they won't want to have planes here accumulating ice and snow overnight, but still lots of flights coming in
