Knowing my daughter, I'm surprised she did this. I told her she is very lucky it didn't bite her.Daddy-O5 said:Most snake bites occur at this time (when someone is messing with it, to catch or to kill). In this instance I completely understand dispatching the snake, still gotta be REALLY careful how you do it.MiMi said:Daddy-O5 said:
She was told correctly. That could've been bad.
Thanks. Very scary. There were young children on the playground at the time. And she said it was trying to bite her shoe when she was smashing it.
Juvenile cottonmouth. Jagged bands and mascara on what's left of the head.nealan said:
Not a cottonmouth. A copperhead
She works at a daycare. Firearms are prohibited. But would have come in handy this morning.Deerdude said:
Why she not packing a .357 with 6" barrel and #4 shot shell load for these situations?

I don't mean to nitpick, but when you say mascara do you really mean eyeshadow?
Based on the location, this could be a speckled/desert intergrade. I was actually leaning more desert based on the video but I'd defer to one of the experts on this one.Pasquale Liucci said:

My son sent me this earlier.. dead on the side of the road in our neighborhood. I'm usually pretty good at ID, but I'm struggling on this one ….

Very much a cottonmouth, good ID
This is a really tough one but I am going with gravid diamondback water snake. Neck to head ratio, band widths, and coloration all say diamondback to me, not cotton.TarponChaser said:
Posted on the neighborhood FB page. They must have been 100' away so I can't see the head but the pattern does look sorta cottonmouth'ish. Personally I would have gotten a lot closer but whatever.
