Went for a walk down the beach today and right where the beach path meets the dune we saw this piping plover doing it's broken wing dance. I knew that she had a nest or babies close by so we started looking where we stepped. We saw 4 babies hunkering down and then scurrying about. We snapped a few photos and then left as they are a threatened species and we did not want to harass. I fear that the chicks are doomed because of their tendency to hide in plain sight to avoid detection right in the middle of a footpath. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics.
Went fishing yesterday and didn't bring a camera. Of course, nature knows when you're not prepared.
Saw a bald eagle sitting in about a foot of water in a beautiful flooded Everglades prairie, then I saw a cara cara rip apart a small bird in a dry area.
A pair of nighthawks followed me with a few "beernt!" calls, and one of 'em did some dive bombs with that weird vibrating boom sound. All I had was a cell phone for pics.
Finally, saw this family of turkeys while driving home. Made a u-turn to get another cell phone shot.
Definitely need to add a point & shoot to my console.

Update: My roadrunners lost their eggs - found both eggs broken, one on the ground and one still in the nest. A real bummer since I bought a trail cam and was going to hang it in the tree.
As a consolation, here are a couple of videos of a crow being dive-bombed by a mockingbird - got some use out of the trail cam after all.

Any thoughts on what this bird is? Picture is fuzzy but the bird is a hawk with light grey body and dark grey feathers. Very dark grey around the eyes.
I can't see your photo, but description sounds like a Mississippi Kite.

Finally out in the light
Found at the local park by the wife and kids. Pretty sure it was a crowned night heron fledgling but wanted to run it by you guys. It was in an area where a lot of crowned night herons nest and at least 0.5-1 mile from water.

This afternoon I went down the street from my house to an area I had previously seen a Greater Roadrunner. My patience paid off this time.
That should be the state bird of Texas.
I had an idea for a shoot, and headed down SW of Millican this morning to the sunflower fields while they are still blooming.

It was the size of a really big pigeon. I thought it was maybe a dove that got released at a wedding, but it was a lot bigger than any dove. In Duval Co.

Pretty sure it is just a white pigeon... A.k.a. rock dove

Recently started getting into bird photography. I prefer stuff like landscape but since I pretty much find the landscapes around here boring, I've started to look for new things to photograph.
