I need some woods, Sid. Nice birds for the yard.

It's a trade-off. You have bluebirds and buntings, among others I'm sure. It was nice seeing something besides the usual suspects for a change.

That's one thing I love about raptors. They remember that they were once dinosaurs, and would as soon kill you as look at you.

I believe the ???? Is a yellow-headed blackbird.

Yeah - not a lot of creativity was used when they named that one....

You're probably right. I need to try to catch a red-wing blackbird. Their call is great. Always know what kind of terrain is around when I hear one. Kind of like a meadowlark, in different terrain.

If you need to find a red winged blackbird, go drive by some corn fields in the coastal plain area during the summer. Personally, I'd be much more excited to see a yellow headed blackbird. I've always thought they were really cool.

Red Wing Blackbirds also love marshy areas. I see them all the time at places like Aransas NWR, Brazos Bend, and Anahuac NWR. Also, often times if you see a flock of RWBB, there will be a few Yellow Headed ones mixed in as well.

This one was taken at Aransas NWR just a few weeks ago.

Here is a mixed flock of red wings with some yellow headed mixed in I took in Bosque del Apache in NM a few years ago. It's interesting to note the yellow headed have a strip of white feathers on the leading edge of their wings.

Wish I had a camera with me now. Spraying a field and have a stack of a half dozen hawks hovering overhead and diving on any rabbit hapless enough to get flushed out by the tractor

Probably not anyones favorite bird, but do any of yall have some pics of common grackles?

I figured a birding thread needs at least one pic of these characters.
Careful what you wish for! I just happened to get this one yesterday while waiting for some action around some heron nests. Edited to add, this may not exactly be a common grackle.

What was entertaining was while I was hanging around there, a Red Shoulder Hawk swooped down near there. Everything spooked, and then the flock of grackles began pursuing the hawk until it got out of earshot. Pretty funny.

God I hate grackles if they weren't native they'd be as bad as pigeons. I would however like to see some pics of smooth or groove billed Anis if anyone has some.

In the Davis Mountains. We don't shoot them and we see quite a few of them from time to time. I've taken a lot of pictures of them over the years.

Can one of you guys give me an ID for this tree? Seems like every bird(and squirrel) in the neighborhood loves the fruit on it. Cedar Waxwings started showing up this morning and it seems like they're going to decimate the inventory within a day or two.

It's a mulberry and they're doing you a favor. Wait until the berries and your sidewalk turn red, and the birds poop red on your vehicles.

There's some incredible images on this thread. I'm only using a point & shoot, but it's still fun. Here's some recent birds from south FL.

Saw this guy today.

Always nice when the herons take out the trash.

Not a great shot, but I like this bird and I haven't seen a limpkin posted yet.

An even worse shot, but this osceola turkey only has one leg.

Another favorite bird. These swallow-tail kites cruise around and get harassed by all kinds of small birds, but they give 0 effs. Never seen one perched.

Imgur is still pretty easy for me, but I post almost exclusively from mobile.

As long as you upload the post and then select "copy post link", you don't have to mess with url or img code. It's just a direct paste into the post or reply.

Sean98 headed to New Mexico or somewhere in pursuit of one. My question was, "Why would you want to shoot one....just take a butterfly net?" We call them rock quail as they seem to be as dumb as a sack of rocks. You worry about them from a predator standpoint as they don't act anything like a bob white or a blue. They move away from a vehicle in a non anxious way. If they fly it will be maybe 30 yards some what like a meadow lark or a young pen raised quail.

Their behavior maybe different elsewhere but that's the way they are to us. On the other had if we reached for a shot gun they might haul ass......................nah.

I have used Smugmug for years as well and like it. It's not free, but better than the free sites IMO. .

Sid answered for me also. More versatile than any of the other sites I have used.
