I sure did keep on eating my almonds though. And then had to go back through them a second time.
I picked up coconut almonds this week. Mmmmm
Now back to snakes.

Killed a copperhead on my porch two nights ago.

When I was in junior high and early high school, I used to help a rancher feed cattle at several different properties during the day especially during the winter when there wasn't much grass. I was in charge of getting the square hay bails out of the little barns (where I'm from people would put hay in old farm garages, chicken coops etc). You want to talk about having to watch what you are doing, that bottom layer of hay bails always held some SURPRISES under them. I mean, every snake within a hundred acres would congregate in those buildings, under the hay, for ole George to get the chit scared out of him.

Western Diamondback - I believe she said down in the eagle ford.
In central Texas you might run across a timber but unlikely.
Far west and the panhandle you have a couple of other species but for the most part, if you encounter a rattlesnake in Texas, it's a western diamondback.
Black-tailed, prairie, and mojave rattlers are decently common in west Texas. Mottled Rock rattlers are rare. Western Diamondbacka are common throughout central and west Texas.
A timber in central Texas would surprise me. Blacktailed rattlers are historically found in central Texas in some areas.

western diamondback: western 2/3 of the state, along the coast to Galveston Bay, just recently found over to Boliver
timber: eastern 1/3 mostly, along watercourses in the east central part (like Victoria/Hallettsville). Bastrop/Decatur is about as far west as they get
mojave: far west
prairie: far west and north, Odessa to Midland north
rock rattlesnake: west in the mountains into the western hill country

massasaugas: north, starting west of Fort Worth, some along the coast to Corpus, rare south
pygmy: mostly east, some into post oak prairie, like around Normangee

Looks like a sea snake to me.
Who doesn't know these things are extremely venomous and deadly? For a while I think they thought their venom might be the most damaging/deadly of any snake (still might be the case).

Can y'all tell anything from this? The pole is apparently about 5 feet long.
What I can tell you is, that is for sure not a coral snake, water moccasin, or copperhead - based on length.
It's probably a rat snake but is rather slender so it could be about 3-4 other species of snakes, based on length (assuming you're in Texas).

My guess is that shot pole is 5 feet tall when extended. Sure doesn't look extended.
