My buddy with AT&T unlimited data plan had hot spot on his iPhone and now on V20. I do know he called AT&T to get it set up. He's brilliant in the way he plays dumb... If that makes sense.

I will find out how he did it.

I've been reading and watching reviews. Phone Co started by the co-founder of Android.

So far, the reviews have been lukewarm.

For that price, I think OnePlus is the better bet, for now. And I just saw they have a 10% student discount.

It's going to be interesting going forward as Huawei is gearing to enter the US market already filled with many fantastic Androids. My hope is that these companies keep their phones at mid range price of $500. Because I love the idea of buying a previous year's flagship phone for $300.

First, creats a nandroid, a backup of stock thats running now. Then and only then, start messing around with new roms. I would also recommend backing up your IMEI numbers too just in case.

After fiddling with it throughout the day, I installed Project L A7 custom ROM on now retired Note 4. What do I think?

It's OK.

But thinking about why would you root your phone, it boils down to control. Because user experience in bloated Android is believed to be restrictive.

But in my opinion having flashed a custom ROM to a perfectly fine note 4, Samsung optimized their ROM to provide the best experience possible.

4 years ago after rooting my Note 2 into a boot loop, I swore I would never do it again. And I stay true to it because I won't root my DD. And I love my V20 and I do not feel restricted. In fact, I have only scratched the surface of the full potential of this phone.

I'm looking at OnePlus as my next phone in 2 years but the lack of microSD is a deal breaker.

Bottoline, it's not worth rooting your high end previous flagship phone. Leave it be. There are worse case scenarios... Your $800 phone slows down with new updates and you hysterically wait in line for a $1,150 phone with a notch.

Got a pixel 2 a few days ago with Verizon's insane deal for $349.99. Love this phone.

One of the Lineage Variants. They do have some with nighty builds. The ROM and Kernel development in the OnePlus scene is second to none. Hell, oneplus provides instructions online for unlocking the bootloader and doesn't void warranties for rooting.

OnePlus is as stock as Android comes. Why did you feel the need to root?

But for real, more control in general and OP doesn't provide a ton of customization with the hardware slider controls
