I hear a port of Knights of the Old Republic is out now! I am excited to pick this one up as I had not played the original back in the day.

Shareable, sort of. One of the Switches has to be your primary Switch. This one will be able to play any game whether on or offline. The other Switch will only be able to play games when connected to the internet so Nintendo can verify you own the game. Also, the secondary Switch only seems to be able to play games under the main user profile. I have a profile as do my kids, and they can only play games as me on the second Switch. It's a crap system.

I have an unopened non-OLED Switch I've had for a while if you are interested in it. Reason I have it is linked below. Didn't get around to donating it for some raffles/auctions I thought about giving it to, so I still have it. Amazon box is still unopened.

Yeah, I think I wasted money with a family membership when my second son got his. I felt like an idiot trying to set it up and figure it out. Once the year expires in February, I'll probably waste more time on what I need to do. I still don't understand the point of the family membership, other than maybe NES and SNES games where it may save you money. But to not be able to play a digital game one son bought under the ID of a second son, even though they are linked on the same family account is stupid. If you don't want to play against each other and need two games, you're better off with a physical game that can be switched back and forth.

I ended up going to Target when they opened this morning and got a new Switch (non-OLED) with the mariokart bundle for the same price I could get a refurbished/preowned plus the game. No brainer.

I appreciated the offer but I didn't want to go that route. With shipping costs for a private transaction we could both do better buying/selling local and chances are really good you don't live near me.

Based on prices I've seen, you ought to be able to sell a brand new Switch on eBay or wherever for no problem and turn a small profit (assuming retail price was the same last year).

Hello. Quick question. I bought a new switch oled for Christmas for my wife. She grew up playing the old NES Mario games. We had a wii and played them 10 years ago or so. I wanted to be able to play now with my 2 kiddos. What Mario games will I want to buy first for nostalgia sake? What games do I need for my 2 girls 9 and 5? What additional hardware do I need to have on hand for Christmas morning to get us going? Thanks so much for any input!

Get an online membership and you can play the old NES and SNES games. Pretty good value.

Have a switch up in the closet for a Christmas gift to my daughter...any myself, it's been there for over a month, I'm so ready to play it. I've got Animal Crossing for her as well as Mario Kart and Breath of the Wild for me. Just a couple of weeks to go.

I wouldn't share my Switch with my kids, if I had any. I'd have to buy 2.

I picked one up at the best buy in Sugar Land. Just need to buy some games and controllers.

Bought the 2nd Gen switch in August... I was on the fence on getting the OLED. I ended up selling the 2ndgen switch yesterday for $300. Walked into Walmart and they had a white OLED instock.


Wow the OLED makes the handle gaming a great experience.

So one thing I got to find out today after trying to setup the Switch in the basement is that it evidently doesn't mesh with some Samsung TV's. It wouldn't stop flickering. I switched the HDMI cables, ports used, everything I could find suggested online, nothing fixed the problem until I plugged it into a different tv. Annoying because I play games in the basement and it has the best tv.

Started a game of Animal Crossing with my daughter because I heard that's a good game for six year olds. About ten minutes in she made me happy with this comment. "Ugh, so many words. Dad, when do we get to race?" Mario Kart will be on the schedule tomorrow.

I'm in the same boat; I start to doze off when I have to read 10 minutes of text just to start a game.

We heard animal crossing was a good game so we tried it. Such a disappointment. My kids 4 and 6 hate it. "Too much reading and not enough fun" is what they said.

Same here. It gets repetitive very quickly for young ones...

Got animal crossing for my 10 year old and she was getting really frustrated really fast. "I can't pick up anything, I can't sleep in my bed, I can't do anything, this is boring." Turns out she was still in the tutorial and a lot of the buttons didn't work yet. We'll see if it gets better.

As a counter experience, my 7 year old daughter loved it and has pretty well filled out her island with her 'friends'. It's like a living doll house. Very good purchase for us. Though she also loves Mario Kart.

My kids (9 year old girl, 12 year old boy) love Animal Crossing. They've had the game since it came out, and still play it regularly. It pretty much helped everyone keep their sanity during the pandemic. They have a group of friends that also play, and they all get together and visit each other's islands and get on FaceTime and have a group chat while playing. It's easily their favorite game, and they've probably spent a couple of hundred hours playing over the past two years.

That said, its not my favorite game, and I can certainly see why some kids would not enjoy it. It's definitely not a shooter or action game. It's all about building. Kind of a SimCity for kids.

Animal Crossing is boring.

I have invested tons of time into Minecraft, on my switch.

Learned the hard way this morning that Animal Crossing doesn't automatically save. Only spent about an hour with my daughter starting a game last weekend so not a huge amount to redo, but was still a kick in the pants and something I couldn't help her resolve today. I'm used to PS4 and I can turn that system off at any point in time and when I turn it back on it's right back where I left it. Really liking Mario Kart so far, but I always have so nothing surprising there. I have Breath of the Wild but I'm not getting into that until I have some real spare time to get into it. Downloaded the NES/SNES game pack but haven't played any of the old school games yet.

Part of me wants to tell her about how easy games were when I was a kid and pop in Ghosts'n Goblins and see how she handles it.

switching gears, what is the best sd card for a switch OLED? want something with a decent size that won't break the bank. Almost all of my son's games are downloaded and he has quickly run out of space from the default storage built in.

Splatoon 3 release date announced.

My 8 year old would LOVE to get a Splatoon 3 release date! I've heard rumblings about a new Xenoblade announcement. Apparently the composer from previous games said he has worked on a game being announced this month.

Hoping for a Metroid Prime Trilogy remaster, and confirmation that Prime 4 development is moving along.

Maybe a Breath of the Wild 2 trailer? Depends on how close the keep to the "first half of 2022" plan for the presentation.

ETA: and of course, wishing for the improbable Hollow Knight: Silksong announcement!
