Wasn't someone last offseason saying that Trubisky was better than Dak? That didn't age well

Anyone think Andy Dalton would make a good backup if we could get him for the right price?

Excellent signing

Nice signing. 1 year contract worth up to 7 M with 3M of it being guaranteed. I'm curious to see what the contract incentives look like.

Yep - that's a good pick-up. Dalton still has a lot of potential.

The number 88 for CeeDee Lamb is a cool story from Jerry's days at Arkansas.

Do we know if Dalton will switch from dying his hair orange to dying it blue?

I'm not sure the Dalton signing is completely about needing a backup.

Jerry wants to boost ginger jersey sales?

This will put pressure on Dak to sign on the dotted line.

It won't take a great QB to move the ball with this offense. Dalton has proven he can win when he has a decent team around him. I don't know if this will light a fire under Dak's butt to sign a deal or not but it sure as hell gives the cowboys more leverage.

None of it is guaranteed so I doubt he makes the team.

Why do you say that? He comes back to play for his hometown team on a rock bottom 3 mil + incentives deal.

We now have one of the best backup QBs in the league for dirt cheap. I don't read anything into it other than that.

He's implying Dalton might start if Dak holds out or regresses this year.

I believe he was insinuating this move was made to answer any Dak holdout, pressure for him to sign.

As long as it isnt because anyone thinks Dalton is actually a better option than Dak.

Dalton at 7 million is better than Dan at 42

The only way Dalton starts ahead of Dak is injury. Dak isn't going play poorly or show up unprepared. Anyone saying that is wishful thinking which I don't understand. It's the same as hoping someone starts ahead of Mond; it means disaster for the season.

Skipping the OTA zoom meetings as a negotiating tactic is at least raising some questions as to how prepared he'll be with the new coach and the system changes that come with that. He's marching to the beat of his agent's advice, which could walk him into an issue.

Either way, Dalton is good enough to where they are not over a barrel if Dak holds out. I'm also looking forward to the new cba that will be very punishing toward tagged guys that hold out and remove a team's discretion to wave the fines

Missing the Zoom thing is a non issue. He has a playbook. Is he getting bad advice? Probably. But plenty of guys skip OTAs. Dak will know the offense inside and out and will have a monster season.

Anyone know how much the offense will change under McCarthy? Same OC, so if its the same system and terminology then no big deal. But if it's a new system, then missing anything is bad news

I'm sure he can figure it out. Plenty of great QBs have done this exact move and went on to have great seasons. This is the NFL and Dak is a pro.

the more i think about this signing, the more i like it. dalton doesn't have the ceiling to be any kind of threat to dak, but he probably has the highest floor of any backup QB in the league. they are killing it this offseason.

I'm not talking about the zoom OTA in a vacuum. I'm talking about him following bad advice from his agent in general that could just be the first in a series and at the very least potentially set him up for a slow start. You know, the kind of start where you play like **** in an early season loss to the Jets which ultimately costs your team a spot in the playoffs

What bad advice is being followed?

I think qb playing holdout hardball is going to cost him more than it helps him. Just don't think it's necessary and I don't think he is the kind of qb that can just show up. I think he's a guy that has to work his ass off and really get his situation right to be successful. And I'm not talking purely $$$ in terms of cost

Not trying to be rude but he is going to prove you 0-2 on those points.

Because he was so good last year with all those weapons on the way to 8-8? Helluva lot of empty numbers last year
