Listening to Dallas sports radio and consensus is the draft was primarily done by McClay and it went so well because he didn't have Marinilli and Garrett telling him who to pick. All the mock drafts the cowboys did had Lamb drafted before 17, about four hours before the draft McCarthey said that if someone like Lamb is available we need to take him instead of whoever is on the board which ended up happening. Cool story.

If you want to put a smile on your face punch up youtube highlights for CeeDee Lamb or Bradlee Anae. It will be VERY interesting to see how these guys translate to the NFL. Many believe CeeDee is better than Jeudy. And I saw a couple of draft preview shows projecting Anae to the 2nd or 3rd round... and that "drop" was just because he ran a 4.9 forty at the combine.

Bottom line is the dude has A+ passrushing skills. Maybe he'll get pushed around too much at the next level but he was beating some high level prospects in the Pac12.

Go check out Liucci's 44 for 2017 if you want to see several guys who had their names called a few days ago.

I believe this actually.

During the garrett era, we drafted for need and picked pet projects like trysten Hill.

Let the professionals and scouts handle most of the drafting.

I like McCarthy a lot better already and we haven't even played a game yet.

Perfect storm for the draft? Starving sports fans would have watched tidily winks.

It was fun tho. I really liked seeing these guys in their home environment. The draft on TV is so hyped that's its unbearable to watch all that crap.

Fun day (And fun the Dallas had no WTF moments)

Have fun in Vegas, but you'll be watching the draft on tv because it's in Cleveland next year. The Vegas retry is 2022

List of some of the UDFA so far

Dallas Cowboys
  • Azur Kamara, EDGE, Kansas
  • Francis Bernard, LB, Utah
  • Ron'Dell Carter, EDGE, James Madison
  • Rico Dowdle, RB, South Carolina
  • Stephen Guidry, WR, Mississippi State
  • Ladarius Hamilton, EDGE, North Texas
  • Luther Kirk, S, Illinois State
  • Garrett Marino, EDGE, UAB
  • Sean McKeon, TE, Michigan
  • Sewo Oloniula, RB, TCU
  • Aaron Parker, WR, Rhode Island
  • Terence Steele, OT, Texas Tech
  • Charlie Taumoepeau, TE, Portland State

I think the Bernard kid out of Utah has a chance to stick. Good LBer. Prob not drafted because he's short, but he's a tackling machine.

This is true. Bernard is definitely underrated. Anae may take a little while to develop at the pro level.

Watching the 2007 Dallas @ Buffalo game aka the Romo 5 interception game on espn. Forgot how crazy that game was. What an unreal win that was.

I remember getting so mad and yelling profanities at the TV because our kicker made that field goal to win the game and the bills coach called the timeout at the last second to be a jerk.

Didn't matter because kicker made it a second time, but it was demoralizing when it happened.

That's my favorite Dallas team in the last 20 years or so.

One of my favorite reactions ever in that game... for the final kick there is this random staffer in the tunnel behind the goal posts. After the first kick goes in he's pissed but then he hears what's going on and turns around with hope in his eyes. 2nd kick goes through and he throws his hands up and leaves.

Can't blame the poor guy, he was definitely old enough to remember the back to back to back to back Bills super bowl losses, 2 at the hands of our very own Dallas Cowboys!

Edit: Just watched from the youtube link above... it's the big guy in the red shirt dead center.

Listening to McClay it's obvious he was tired of the stale and stubborn approach of Garrett. McCarthey is all about getting the most talented players and going from there while Garrett was all about fitting to the scheme even if the player was less talented.

I won't pretend it was all bad, they drafted some fantastic players under JG... but there was definitely an air of stubbornness around his definition of "the right kind of guy".

And I blame Marinelli for a crap ton of those issues too. His reputation blinded so many people for too long. The guy crippled our defense. We passed on so many good defenders because he was quoted as saying "I don't need him, I can get it done with what we have". Some people thought it was him being selfless... turns out it was ignorance!

Several things about Garrett / marinelli were completely inexcusable tho.

We never had a good safety while they were here. Not a single one.

They often used later round draft picks for pet projects who always ended up sucking.

They drafted based on need.

The in game calls were always robotic, overly conservative, and demonstrated no feel for the game.

We never generated turnovers.

We held on to underachieving players for too long because they were " liked" and " valued".

The entire thing reeked of the country club atmosphere in Austin that gets ridiculed daily on the horn meltdown thread.

Garrett and marinelli needed to be gone 5 years ago.

This offense this ought to allow for a VERY aggressive defense. Blitz the hell out of them, force turn overs, sacks/tackles for loss... Give up a TD, no big deal, it's another possession for the offense.

The way the Saints pulled New Orleans up after Katrina, America's Team can help the country wake up from the Covid nightmare.

Time to download the updated Madden rosters and keep day dreaming.

Looks like we picked up a new CB - Daryl Worley from the Raiders. One interception, a fumble recovery, 8 passes defensed and 58 tackles (51 solo) last year.

Had some issues when he played for the Eagles....found passed out in his car, pled guilty to DUI.

I've heard from a few different places that we might be seeing Chido moved to safety. Very interesting. He did do a little bit of that at Colorado.

I mean, it's not a terrible idea considering he's in his last year. Why not try?

That would give us Lewis & Brown at CB with 2 promising rookies and a couple other guys (Including the new Raider) competing for a spot.

Also have to keep in mind that just because he may be a safety, he could still come down and cover on nickel situations. He could even come down and cover the outside allowing Lewis or Brown to move into the slot depending on who we like more inside.

Just for reference... in 1 less year of football he has 3 more career INT than Byron Jones and his 1 fumble recovery last year is 1 more than Byron Jones has ever had.

Friggin A I cannot believe how much money Miami gave that guy. He has exactly ZERO INTs as a CB. He has exactly 1 career INT where he made a play on a ball... the other was a time running out Hail Mary.

Evidently, Gruden loved him because he can play any DB position.

I think they can get away with keeping Chido at CB. Make the young guys beat him out.

They say the defense is going to be playing more zone so the DBs can watch the QB and react... I wouldn't be surprised if his play will improve in that scheme. Plus, with Byron Jones gone you can bet the other team is going to be testing the rookies early in the season.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see Jalen Smith playing more OLB and rushing the passer. Especially in passing situations.

If Jaylon and Vander can return to their 2018 form then that completely changes this defense.
